This is a really nice idea for a series. Looking forward to more! I love that you used gen 3 music for the background since Pokemon Emerald and Leafgreen were my first-ever pokemon games. Scarlet and Violet have many issues running, but these games at least improve their characters. To me, most gym leaders are lame except for a few, like Larry and Iono, who are interesting. My four favorite characters have to be Director Clavell, Arven, Eri, and Nurse Miriam. The multiple interactions you have with characters, no matter how terrible, at least give a feel to each character in the newer games for better and worse. This doesn't affect the issues these games have with frame rate, crashing, dull open-world space, etc., but I enjoyed most characters' dialogue. That said, the best pokemon experience I had was Pokepark 1 & 2, so I can only hope for more Pokemon spinoffs. Once again, Airi, this is a superb idea, and I look forward to what other series you review! 🐺🤎

I can slightly agree with you there Airi, with some of the points you said though for me I would give the games a big 5 cause I never had any glitches with my game or closed out unless this was Pokémon violet only cause when it comes to me playing Pokémon scarlet. I never had once had the game closed on me what so ever cause normally I save every so often and I close out the game cause Xenoblade 2. also does this with just memory leaks lol but I can agree with some stuff you said this is why no games for me in Pokémon have yet beaten Pokémon black and white 1&2 games for me there still my number 1. But the bugs I kinda want gamefreak to fix is the climbing for the ride Pokémon cause that's buggy as heck. When you climb and want to go up they stop on slops and want to slide down and you just wanna continue climbing. I also want them to fix the Tera raid battles cause the timer still goes off when you Tera form in sword and shield there was no timer but it didn't pressure you to hurry up like this games. Cause the timer still continues when Tera forming. Witch annoys me when it comes to five star raids I just beaten the game a few days ago so I'm not sure how stuff is now even though I did get shiny chansey yesterday when hunting blissey for Pokédex. Plus kinda made it a think as to where I do the post game stuff I end up quitting the game till DLC or what but yeah. I can see why you would it a 4 points out of 10 Airi's.

This is an amazing thing to do after a playthrough. And I agree that $60 is too much for any pokemon, and $40 is a much better price point. The emptiness of the world with the lack of almost any enter-able buildings is such a disappointment, the breeding just sucks, and Game Freak needs to hire a company to make their games have a proper frame rate and lack glitches. And you know they're going to do a $30 DLC after this. Firstly, this was a much better story. The three task lines at once, and being allowed to do them in whatever order you want was great to preserve a feeling of exploration and discover. Gen I did this by having the middle section of gyms free to challenge in enough orders (Sabrina, Erika, Koga, and Blaine, though you have to beat Koga before Blaine). This was a more realized version of that freedom. And I like them not giving you an order, and you have to figure it out by wild pokemon levels and stuff. Fighting through an area I really wasn't ready for was fun, and the first time I've felt challenged by pokemon in over a decade. And the professor twist at the end was something I didn't see until getting there. I disagree about the characters. I like the new rival (much more than Hop or Hau from the previous titles), just because her character was never grating. The other two did develop, but I never liked them, while Nazune is likeable enough and didn't really need to change. A flat character ark is fine, especially for a side character. The Team Star story-line is very eye-rolling, though I guess the school failing to stop bullying is a fine story-arc for the director. But with so many characters, I do expect a few to fade away, and none of the reoccurring main characters were hatable in a bad way. I do long for a good antagonistic presence. Team star lack the qualities of Rocker, Aqua, Magma, Galactic, Plazma, Flair, or even Skull. They just hid in the background, and I didn't feel like the world cared about this delinquent force on the world. So taking them down felt meaningless. Even though they were a joke, team Skull at least had an impact on the world around them. Star didn't even have the personality of team Yell. So the games just felt like they lacked an antagonist, especially since they used the friendly rival. I played the Scarlet version of the game, and it never crashed on me. Though I only played it up to 2 hours or so at a time. But I did have parts where I got stuck in the air (the game reset my position at least; i was afraid I'd have to restart). But the glitches and slow frame rates didn't ever stop me having fun, at least. Those it's a shameful display of incompetence. The school in the background as a tutorial for people who want it was a great feature, in my opinion. There was even a class about the breeding mechanics (I think it was part of the biology lectures). I wish they'd have the individual lessons instead of courses you'd have to go linearly though. But it pushed the tutorial stuff out of the way so you didn't have to interact with it if you didn't need it. The maths course even explained battle mechanics well. I hate the customization stuff. It's in an awkward spot and I had to google how to change my uniform, since I hate the shorts. The winter school uniform looks okay, i guess. But XY was so much better done for outfits. This game was also weak on pokemon designs. I can't think of a single design that stands out as great to me. The smolive line is fine. But they lack the spectacular stuff like the Dreepy line, the galarian corsula line, or snom from even Sw/Sh, and those were the weakest pokemon games. But not a single starter line I like. Grass-cat and pompous-duck are too furry-bait, and the Crocoroc ended up being too digimon at the end. Rillaboom was better than any of SVs stuff, and even that's a pretty weak starter line. But this game was so much better than Sword and Shield (though gigantamax is better than the type change stuff). And better than XY since it at least offered some challenge, though the elite four needed teams of 6, along with the intended last gym leaders. And don't make the ice type one of your last intended; ice is such a weak type. Pokemon ranking, in my opinion: Gen III (RSE/FrLg) Gen I (RBY) Gen V (BWBIIWII) Gen IV (DPPt/HgSs) Gen II (GSC) Gen VII (SM/USUM) Gen IX (SV) Gen VI (XY/OrAs) Gen VIII (SwSh/BdSp)

For Gen VIII, the DLC is much better than the main story. But that means you're spending $90 on an overall disappointing game. But at least you can see how the wild area was a prototype from Legends arceus and scarlet/violet. VI is a bit hard to remember specifics on; though AZ and Lysander (two of the characters) are memorable. But you can find the game used for less than $20, and it's worth that.

I respect Scarlet and Violet as being an experimental game, much better done than Sword and Shield at least Though not all of the added touches (mini-games, writing) were a hit, it shows that they are trying to modernize the Pokemon series... Let's face it, they can't keep making traditional monster-catching games rooted in the past. No game series can last forever doing the exact same things it has done before. There is so much more personality in this game, they are really trying to push the idea that Pokemon is not all about battling. Yes, they did include challenging Tera Raids, but we also see sandwiches, trading, exploration, and even the Gym Leaders as examples of other ways humans and Pokemon interact. Some of the Gym Leaders may have been cringey, but they represent our modern society and the people who really would have "Gym Leader" as a side job well Yes, the graphics were a mess, I hope they have the ability to improve I personally liked how the order of things wasn't too obvious. The Gym Leader and Star Leader bios did give hints on when everything should be faced, and I'm fairly certain that Grusha actually gave me a warning ("hey, it might not be the right day for you to face me") when I was fairly underleveled. It would have been effective if they had given us something like another student's journey and what order they did everything in or even making it a setting you can turn on and off I find Tera very interesting, it doesn't find much use in the story but probably is a game changer for competitive battling and the difficult Tera Raids The characters and story weren't the best, but it was definitely a step in the right direction. It may very well be my favorite mainline game story, though obviously Pokemon Mystery Dungeon has great story They didn't increase the shiny rate by much, you only see differences in game because you see much more Pokemon at once. I believe Legends Arceus had a sound and flicker that would play whenever a shiny Pokemon appeared, I'm fairly certain it was being developed at the same time as SV so hopefully that rolls over to the next game With crashing, I actually haven't experienced any. I have 45 hours on the game and play for about 4 hours at a time, so I'm not sure if it's just been fixed or if it's something else The music is amazing though, haha

As someone who was burnt by sword and shield this seems pretty accurate to the impression I got from watching you play it. All I would add is that some of these issues are holdovers from recent games (like the PC being accessible from anywhere). The games being stupid easy really started in the 3DS era but you could turn off the exp share meaning you could make the game fun, in the switch era they removed the ability to turn off exp share making everything way too easy unless you purposely impose challenges on yourself. In sword and Shield I found myself boxing my pokemon because they were getting too strong too fast it was a lame experience with not much challenge. Also the need for every new generation to need a new gimmick is leading to some awful ideas that take up too much of Game Freaks time. Imagine if all the effort put into Big Pokemon or Crystal Pokemon was put into making a functioning game? It's so weird because they had found the right solution with mega evolution but then they just scrapped it for worse alternatives. Okay I'll stop rambling now.

Minny games aside, this game was amazing, sure there was lag and some glitches but they are working on those, plus they just did some fixes on the lag and it runs smoother, the gameplay loop is extremely addictive and being a hard core pokemon fan and competitive player I'm having a blast completing the DeX, hunting for shinys and making a pvp team, I have over 90h on the game now, the terestalizing adds an incredible addition to conpeditive battling hats aside, and I feel like you haven't played any of the outher pokemon games cuz access to your boxes has been a thing for I wile. Also it's a fuck8ng pokemon game no one expects it to be the next god of war, breeding is so obvious too, ugh. And just been able to play with friends and steal there shinys was a great addition, cuz the outher pokemon games never had that. I'm getting so heated lol

Sorry in advance for the text wall, you probably won't read but i don't have anyone to discuss this with so I'm just gonna give my personal full review. You have your own opinion, which is fine. I agree some, but also I disagree a LOT with some of this. You repeat so many of the same stuff that people who think the peak of Pokemon was the first two or three games. Here we go: Things I agree: - performance issues are awful for a lot of people - getting rid of shop interiors was strange - please bring back megas - psychic gym minigame was horrendous - I miss Nurse Joy too - A couple of the tera hats were silly, but most were fine - super hard to see a ton of the pokemon - shinies were done poorly because the pokemon are so small and some have minor color changes and they removed the shiny sound from Arceus; rates are fine - level scaling was weird but also it didn't help that you were doing no evolutions Things I disagree: - literally nobody actually cares about shiny rates being increased, it's just something people come up with as an excuse to hate the modern games more - There have always been shitty gym puzzles. - Star base battles were interesting. We got the same number of gyms as normal games, it's not like having them took away from the experience of gym battles. Auto battle running around is more interesting than fighting the exact same team 20 times against whatever evil team there is. At the very least, it takes less time and gets you to the more interesting part; the boss - The school setting doesn't need to have a purpose. Have you EVER traveled back to your hometown in previous games unless you needed to for the story? - If the babying was so bad, why did you feel the need to overlevel one of the best pokemon in the game (Mimikyu) so much? It's not because of your no-evo run; three of the Pokemon on your team were pokemon that didn't have evolutions in the first place, and had the stats/movesets to make up for it. Thoughts on Terastallization: really good mechanic. You keep the bonus from your original typing, but you can choose to: increase damage further, get STAB for a move of a different type, work around your Pokemon's weaknesses (example: dragon terastallize into steel. that eliminates all three of its normal weaknesses and your opponent has to respond to that). It's not overpowered like Mega Evolution or Dynamax. And limiting it to once per Pokemon center means you had to use it strategically. Mixed: - "They baby you too much" yes and no. Yes, it can be bad at times. BUT this is a game designed for children. they've always babied you; you were just younger when you played the games. Not every game needs to be hard, steamrolling things with OP pokemon (literally what you did with Mimikyu) is just plain fun. And I hardly count giving you items as "babying" when it's so easy to just go buy them. - "They don't explain how you breed Pokemon" they never really have. they mention that pokemon leave eggs sometimes in the daycare but that's it. nothing about egg groups, breeding held items - "Union circle is basically genshin" what do you even mean by this. if you mean "it's a multiplayer game" then yes My final rating: 8/10. I experienced one crash and minimal performance issues personally, so I'm judging purely from a gameplay perspective. I've played all the Pokemon games and replay them regularly, I'm not biased by nostalgia
