I think this is the clean chassis shortening I've ever seen
@dunebuggy1286 Жыл бұрын
I did my dunebuggy in a similar way. Except I made a template pattern. Maked the two points and just moved the template from front cut to back cut. Worked perfectly. That was 15 years ago. I'm still driving it and just had it to a car show over the weekend.

Those contours ended up really nice! I hope that cardboard Template at the end is how the bottom of the tunnel is going to look! The dimpled holes will cut weight and add a lot of strength too.
@caddmannq3 жыл бұрын
Love your shop! Very clean fab job too. Much envy here guys. I would have found a way to lap the tunnels back together ~14". If you have the bottom off it should be possible to put all the "pie cuts" in the hidden portion. My VW is stretched, 14" so has a different set of issues. ;)

Talking about safety glasses, if we did it like this in Europe we would get two fines, one for the worker and one for the employer, it would be for lack of ear protection, steel capped shoes, long trousers and missing safety shield on the grinder, with this many violations, the one for the worker would really sting, and the one for the employer would probably be enough to close the company, Also, the way you shorten the pan wouldn't pass inspection in Europe, we are only allowed to use the Volkswagen approved way, and that's not it, and we couldn't defend using this much time on a customer car, but i really like that you took of the bottom first, although a bit risky.

Appreciate the comment DP. If we were taught those ways, or the rules were put in place by our City, State or even country officials, we would abide by them. Thanks for looking out!
