When Iraq invaded Kuwait, a lot of Indians were stuck in that warzone and Akshay Kumar's character was a businessman and an important one, who used to consider himself as a Kuwaiti and not Indian, who was also stuck there. But, when Iraqi started killing Kuwaiti and not Indians as their leader had no issues with Indians, he started understand the value of being Indian that time and how his motherland mattered more than where he was. He made his duty along with his friends and co-workers to make sure all the Indians reach home successfully. They had to be airlifted, but not just by Air Force planes, but also by the commercial pilots flying Air India flights. PS: I'm not spoiling it for you because it's a known fact. The movie is about how he did it.

Yes ur right. Iraqi soldiers & govt actually were helpful yo indians as india was pro sadaam. But it was horrible for kuwaiti citizens who slaughtered. Kuwait main govt & royal family were able to flee just a few hrs before iraq entered

Iraq didn't kill Indians But they wanted the Indian government to support them against America by keeping the millions of Indian diaspora in Kuwait. But India remained neutral which is why the government was like "not our priority" Pakistan and Bangladesh had close ties with Iraq and thus they were airlifted just after the war started

One LAKH is not same as one MILLION....1million =10 Lakh...for desi person who wrote the subtitle......Indian counting names are based on multiples of 100 (1000*100=100000 or 1Lakh) where as western counting names are on multiples of 1000 (1000*1000= 1000000 or 1 million)

Millions of Indians especially South Indians work as expats in the middle East. This is a true story. The hero here is potrayed as a Punjabi because it has commercial value. The real hero of this whole incident was Mathunny Mathews and Air India. It was one of the biggest airlifts , something similar to the Berlin airlift.

Its 170,000 even in the movie. The subtitles you applied were wrong ! Iraqi army invaded Kuwait in the mid night. By next morning, all the government officials and wealthy Kuwaiti fled the country leaving their fellow citizens on the mercy of untrained army of enemy who were notorious for the war crimes. Iraq, due to good relations with India, ordered it's army to not harm Indians but Iraqi army because of being unprofessional constantly raided Indian settlements for loot and search for Kuwaiti women coz they can't touch Indians. But things started to get out of control and you should watch the movie for further revelation.

Just to correct the number of Indians stranded and to be airlifted as mentioned in the trailer was 170000 and not 1.7 million. That was incorrect translation in subtitles for sure!!

It was the biggest rescue operation in the world, its still is. Air India sent several planes to rescue all 1.7 million people not just Indian but other nationals as well whose country denied to help their national. Google about it. You'll know.

Kuwait didn't turned their back on Indian ... Iraq invaded Kuwait so the people of Kuwait has no power left. Indian businessman was told to leave by the main Iraqi general after the invasion. And the close caption is a typo but in the movie it said 170k people not 1.7milion ... And they were evacuated over a period of 1 month. That Rich Indian businessman didn't leave Kuwait till every single Indian has been evacuated

Air India and its subsidiary Indian Airlines did 488 round flights in 63 days to accomplish the world record evacuation of any nationality ever. Akshay Kumar's character is based on an Indian M.
