Airline pilots speed up to cut flight time! We can go faster, get better winds and get short cuts.

Winds can be better at different altitudes to get a more favorable tail wind.
We can speed up faster than the planned in route speed.
We can also get shortcuts in the air if the planned route wasn’t as direct as we’d like.

You need a type rating for each aircraft most pilots can fly single engine prop planes but private jets require a type rating

Hey, just out of curiosity do you have a diploma or degree?, I’m currently studying engineering but it’s so boring I already have my PPL. Do you think I can just leave and do CPL and all my ratings and still work at a major airline. Will it hold me back if I don’t get at least a diploma in aviation or something?

the captain doesn't decide the route, the dispatcher does. The pilot flying decides how fast they want to fly. Cool story though
