Gibson Guitars uses an Electrostatic charge to attract the clear finish onto their guitars. The results 'for me' have been negative with pops and cracking coming through my amp. This has happened with three different Gibson guitars and only happens with Gibson guitars. Some will attribute this to a "grounding" issue either with the guitar or the homes electrical wiring, but I am 'in my instance' 100% positive that this isn't the case. I am here trying to find out how to remove this static charge to try and fix a problem that really shouldn't be there to begin with.

What if the object i'm touching has the right amount of both + and -? how come i get a shock from the laptop? The bed sheets i guess made me more negative? but what if the laptop doesn't need any electrons?
@JonatasAdoM
@JonatasAdoM 2 жыл бұрын
I know nothing of this, but I believe you and whatever you're touching will want equilibrium. That's why you are told to touch your computer case when touching hardware, so the charge gets evenly spread between you and the metal and thus you cannot ESD.

As for the electrical discharge, when the body rubs with the carpet, it loses electrons, and when the body touches any metal surface close to it, such as a door handle, for example (the bonding forces of electrons are weak) the electrons will move from the metal surface of the human body to compensate for the lack of electrons in it. The question is why does a positive charge not appear on the surface A metal that has lost its electrons?

Last night when i was going to sleep when i touched my blanket it literally zapped 3 time and it was really lighting!! It even has a sound! then i did it again till i mastered it.. It sounds like you are having quite an electrifying experience at work! We might be able to help if you're in an industrial/manufacturing work environment; Let me know more here - www.airlinehyd.com/pages/contact/contact-us As much as a wireless charge might be convenient, I think there are safer ways to keep your phone battery full! 😅

The current is also very high because the ionized air in a spark have very low resistance! Neither voltage nor current are low so the power is very high. What is low here is the total energy because the spark happens for a very brief amount time.

so this is why, every time, since we dont have a heater atm, when i change clothes, without fail, pants, shorts, or shirts always have that static crackle sound when i take them off, was wondering if it was due to that, or the waterbed, or the space heaters, or a combination but maybe once we get the heater up an going monday i wont have to worry about this and can finally put my pc together (dont wanna risk damaging the motherboard due to static, i know i can touch the case, and i do have an anti-static wrist band, but still)

Yea, the computer case I bought came loaded with static, so much that I didn't want to risk it and only assembled the other day and with the utmost care.

Oh no! If you haven't already, be sure to watch part 2 of this video series, and try following some best practices we laid out there. If that doesn't work, we also go over some technology solutions to help eliminate static charge. If you still need more help, you can always reach out to our experts - call us at 800-999-7378 or email customer.service@airlinehyd.com. We can collect the information we need to be able to provide the best solution for you. ▼

@@AirlineHydraulics Thank you! I cant really buy any Ionizers because im just a new employee and they dont care enough, maybe sometime I can request they look into it but ATM Im still to low in the ranks lol. Could you ground the static from placing 1 or 2 copper wires on the pallet possibly or do you need to balance the ions?

Sometimes, but not always, a soft clicking noise can be heard. But the way to detect static electricity is with a static electricity meter (watch part two to learn more).

It's really funny how dry areas know eletrostatic as a fact of life. However, in truly humid places, electrostatic is almost a myth. You don't know people that have shocked themselves and the only contact you'll have with it is that sensation on your hairs when you approach a charged object.

Try to touch metal before doing whatever causes the shocks. I remember during the Mythbusters episode on gas station fires that what caused the fires was that the person would leave the car without touching it, then when they reached for the gas tank, they'd ESD between the car and the gasoline.

Watched the video thinking "Hey, it's less then 10 minutes for a change, let me watch it. Turns out it's just part one haha. Also, this video could be used to scare tech people late at night. Also also, my computer case came packed with Styrofoam inside the cardboard and the eletrostatic charge tingled my hairs and raised some of them (you could even play with it).
