"Jim never has a second cup of coffee at home.." - That line was a reference to coffee commercial on TV back in the 70s. They even used the same actress. So it was pretty funny back then but doesn't make sense to anyone under around 45 years old.

Fun Fact: In a 2008 interview, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar told the story of being on a European flight and asked to sit in an empty seat in the cockpit during takeoff so the crew could say they flew with Roger Murdoch. White-Red Zone Fact: Regarding the argument between announcers concerning the white and red zones at the airport, the producers hired the same voice artists who had made the real-world announcements at Los Angeles International Airport. At the real airport, the white zone is for loading and unloading of passengers only, and there's no stopping in the red zone (except for transit buses). They were also married to each other in real life. Casting Choice Fact: Jim Abrahams, David Zucker, and Jerry Zucker chose actors such as Robert Stack, Lloyd Bridges, Peter Graves, and Leslie Nielsen because of their reputation for playing no-nonsense characters. Until this film, these actors had not done comedy, so their "straight-arrow" personas and line delivery made the satire in the movie all the more poignant and funny. Bridges was initially reluctant to take his role in the movie, but his sons persuaded him to do it.

I appreciate the clarification my brother. You know I did a little research myself after reading everything you sent me. I didn't know Jive was something that was popular back in the days. It's pretty much what slang is today. Now to think of it they was being rude to the Jive lady lol she was just trying to help.

That is Jive. The woman Jive translator is played by Barbara Billingsley who played the ideal 1950 60s mother. The actress who played the woman who got slapped suggested the weapons.

The running joke with Jim and the coffee and then the vomiting is a reference to a series of old Yuban brand coffee commercials, in which a housewife wonders why her husband has seconds of everyone else's coffee but her own. @@edgyviews Also, the old woman who translates the "jive" talk is Barbara Billingsly who played the mother, June Cleaver, in the wholesome 50s sitcom "Leave It To Beaver". She was known for being "America's mom" so it was real funny to see her in this scene.

This film has been rated to have the most laughs per minute. @@edgyviews It's nothing personal. So much of the comedic material in this movie spoofs events and media from an earlier time. While the plane's tail fin was slicing through the clouds, the dramatic music that was playing was the JAWS theme. It was a joke. Go see the movie JAWS, then come back and watch the opening scene. I gave up shortly after that because the knee-jerk millennial reaction to seeing someone smoking tells me they're not going to get the references in this movie. I'll bet you didn't get the "Jim never asks for a second cup..." and "Jim never throws up at home..." scene. 1. I guess I picked the wrong week to stop watching "first time reaction" Airplane clips. 2. Little things to look for: Ted was in the Air Force but at the bar he's wearing a Navy Lt. Uniform. One of the fish was a freshwater catfish. A couple of Hari Krishna's actually leave the airport. It's a jet but the background noise is of a prop plane. The woman with a horse in her bed is creepy Captain Oveur's wife. Captain Kramer walks out of a mirror. 3. Otto/Auto pilot has his own webpage on IMDB 4. Elaine has permission to sit on MY face.😍😋 5. IMVHO Airplane II is better. Destination moon. I saw it first. That's my story and I'm sticking to it. 6. Two other Funny Movies (that are connected somewhat) for you to share are: "Young Frankenstein" and "Blazing Saddles"🤣🤣

When the wife wakes up with the horse next to her, it is a spoof on the most icon scene in The Godfather, which was still fresh in people's minds. To convince a Hollywood producer to use his godson in an upcoming movie, they make him "an offer he can't refuse." But when he does refuse, he wakes up the next morning to discover the bloody severed head of his prized and very expensive racehorse next to him in bed.

one of the Marx Brothers movies also had a scene with one of the brothers is in bed, and somehow, out of nowhere, a horse jumps out ! doesn't make any sense, it's just hilarious
