Thank you for doing this timeless classic. Spoof comedy is sometimes difficult to understand. Literalism and the Jest of things are always the key. And some improv. That's Airplane in a nutshell. if you want a real classic spoof comedy. Mel Brooks was a genius at it. I very much suggest a Reaction to High Anxiety-1977. It is a brilliant and amuzing tribute to Alfred Hitchcock. I also recommend The Pink Panther series with Peter Sellers. Return Of The Pink Panther-1975, The Pink Panther Strikes Again-1976, Revenge Of The Pink Panther- 1978. These are comedy masterpieces. I think You would enjoy them. Well just a few suggestions. Hope you had a fun Birthday🎂🎂🎂. Peace. 🙏

This movie parodies the movie "Zero Hour" (1957)" . Many of the actors were primarily dramatic actors in films and TV from the 1950s through the 1970s. Part of the humor was having those dramatic actors play in a farce comedy. You're too young to catch a lot of the jokes. Old people like me enjoy this movie the most.

Leslie Nielsen in particular. He’s now mostly remembered as a comic actor but he used to play villains a lot (even did that in Creepshow which was made a couple of years later) or characters like the ship’s captain in The Poseidon Adventure. Airplane! changed his entire career.

Well, Airplane! was both a parody and remake of Arthur Hailey's 1957 drama film, Zero Hour since it was a predecessor to another of Arthur Hailey's work, the Airport trilogy. And of course Airplane! also parodies the Airport trilogy as well because in both Airport and Airplane! took place on a Boeing 707. And, some of the supportive cast members of Airplane! were also in the movie Zero Hour

As an old-fart Generation Z guy, I feel that "Airplane!" needs a glossary for the convenience of the Zoomers. Young folks always look mystified that there are weird religious cults at airports in this movie, but it was a real thing. As was smoking on airplanes! I also feel that they might not know what this was parodying in the first place, as the original (and bad, let me add) "Airport" movies have been almost completely forgotten. Anyway, happy birthday, lady!

What makes this comedy genre funny is they think outside the box and break the rules you normally don't notice. For example with your question about abortion in the beginning, the automated airport announcement is to clarify parking details (e.g. loading, unloading in red/white zone, etc.) but the joke is that it eventually becomes a full-on conversation which you don't expect from a recorded announcement.

The fish one the ocean beach is a freshwater catfish. A couple of the Hari Krishna's actually flew somewhere. 3. :You missed some of the iconic gags, "Don't call me Shirly" and "It's a big building with patients but that's not important right now". 4. Rule of Threes! This movie follows that rule almost religiously. You found a two, when the guitar only knocked out the little girl's IV twice (Jill Whelan also played Vicki Stubing on the TV series The Love Boat at the time this movie was released). I found two fours: (1) Lloyd Bridges character does the "I picked the wrong week to quit..." joke four times, and (2) the religious people asking for donations at the airport. In both of these cases, the fourth occurrance of the joke was even more extra than the third one (Lloyd Bridges jumps out the window and Robert Stack beats up all the people from all the religions). By the way, the little statue on the airplane's dashboard is St Christopher. For Catholics, he's the patron saint of travelers, and people put those little statues on their car dashboards for protection against danger.

Still a funny film... though some of the jokes probably couldn’t be remade today..which is sad as it’s just humour, but hey ho.. Cool react 🤟🏼😎

Man! 80s comedy movies were something else. LOL! I now know where Family Guy got their inspiration for some of their episodes.

This Is a spoof of a couple of airplane disaster movies that were made in the 70’s, they were Airport ‘77 and Airport 79 the Concorde. I saw this movie in theatres when I was 9. The woman concerned about her husband wanting a second cup of coffee was a joke about a famous coffee commercial in the 70’s where women were shocked when they would be out with their husbands and they would take a second cup of coffee when they didn’t at home and it was because of the coffee brand, I think it was either Folgers or Maxwell house coffee.

It's even funnier if you know the cast, 3 of the most serious actors ever were given big roles: Peter Graves ("Mission: Impossilbe" and "Biography"), Robert Stack ("Unsolved Mysteries" and "The Untouchables") and Lloyd Bridges ("Sea Hunt") plus the whitest woman on TV Barbara Billingsley is the one who speaks the slang language 'jive' (you cut her scenes). And the funny Leslie Nielsen was a serious actor before this, he starred in the classic sci-fi film "Forbidden Planet" with the beautiful Ann Francis.

There is a sequel to this movie Airplane 2 the sequel. An well watching the long haul version of this movie. Thats on the don't call me Shirley edition of this movie. Wich is fine if you like seeing cast an crew interviews an behind the scenes secrets. But be aware the long haul version is like 3 to 4 hours long. But in a interview the actor that played the pilot that ask. All those wird questions to the kid said. When they went to film that scene he keep one eye on the exits. Just incase he had to make a run for it because. Even he was like you want me to say this stuff to a kid. So he was reedy to run just in case.

So, obviously a lot has changed with air travel since this movie was made- There did used to be a smoking section on airplanes; In the late 70s, LAX became notorious for members of religious cults coming up and bothering people in the terminal. (I believe it was the Hari Krishnas who used to offer people flowers) Also, this movie is directly spoofing the Airport franchise- Almost every passenger on the plane is taken straight from an Airport movie. The flashback scenes are spoofing Saturday Night Fever and An Affair To Remember

I just lost it at the handshake sequence, I mean, I’ve seen it lots of times, but for some reason, it really got to me during this video. I guess the awkwardness and how it ended was the key
