I'm curious to hear from an actual native what the locals there think of the statue that is to be eventually erected. Is it viewed as a joke, a waste of money? Really cool? Or is the general consensus there just indifference and no one ever thinks of it, partly because this movie is... well... pretty old? What are YOUR thoughts on the statue? Just really curious.

That line sums up pretty well humanity of the film. In real life people with memory disorders, dementia etc. have the same problem. Because of all action and satire it is easy to miss the spiritual side of Robocop. The soul of this film values human life and its endless search for identity. Most action films do not have this.

That’s why it’s a classic IMO.. It’s pure schlock satire, that sprinkles in just enough of the good stuff to really make you care.. My personal favorite scene is when he goes back to his old house.. It kills me, every time.. I loved the smile on her face while she watched.. I still have that same reaction all these years later..
@ultimagameboy
@ultimagameboy 3 жыл бұрын
This right here is the heart and soul of the movie for me. Robocop is a schlocky, cheesy, B-movie concept on the surface... but there's so much beneath the surface going on, there's real depth in there. Weller's performance, Poledouris' phenomenal score, the ultra-violence, the social commentary and dark, dark, yet comical satire. Even some of the slow tracking shots from the DP are amazing to me, even today. ED 209's design and animation, the sound design... this movie is such a masterpiece! I'd buy it for a dollar!

Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer is a major movie studio in Hollywood. "Ars gratia artis" is "art for art's sake" in Latin. Robocop was released in the Summer of 1987. It was directed by Dutch filmmaker Paul Verhoeven. There's a lot of sleaze, sex and violence in his films.

This film goes from science fiction to satire in nothing flat. Also notice the Jesus imagery that surrounds Murphy. He comes back from the dead and even walks on water.

@Once Upon a Reaction Fact: People survive shots to the head sometimes, and a regular revolver can blow up your arm. A few examples: The mom of a friend of mine was shot in the head once, and she survived (because it was only superficial). Clyde Morrow´s brother (from Bonnie and Clyde) got shot in the head, and he still was able to run away from the police for a few days, with parts of his brain literally coming out of the hole (till he died in the hospital). There also was a guy in my town who was shot in a park. A car stopped in front of him, pulled out a gun and pulled the trigger once. His entire arm immediately fell down to the ground, with a single shot.

Tome su like, señorita.

The guy who does the voice over during the attempt to save Murphy is an actual Doc and according to Verhoeven's commentary that guy said they had people in similar conditions and some even survived.

I've never noticed, after all these years, that Ray Wise, aka Leland Palmer from Twin Peaks, was in this movie. However, I did know that Miguel Ferrer (Bob Morton), who played Albert in TP, is in it. I'm still a little in shock over that first revelation though, lol.

7:25 HUGE respects for seeing Twin Peaks. It's and it's sequel are the best things that have come from TV. There's endless amounts of hidden things and wisdom into Twin Peaks, and David Lynch's art in general. People who have never seen Twin Peaks should do reaction to it. Almost certain way of getting lots of subscribers as it's a cult show.

A lot of the ubsurd scenes and events in the original Robocop are what makes it a satire on the late 80's. I don't think it's just the impromtue ad breaks/commercial breaks that are spread throughout the film.

When you think of Paul Verhoeven directed films, think hyper amounts of blood, violence, and sexual content... oftentimes along with biting social commentary. He was not a director of subtlety.
