Smart move to add rifle work to diversify for dual interest in your Channel. 6.5 PRC and 300 PRC are 2 "hot tickets" to now use high BC bullets, less wind drift and drop. I'm "old school" using 30-06 Springfield and 270 Win. Standard 6.5 Creedmore is pushing it for ELK or larger, great for Pronghorn and Deer etc. Ron Spomer is a great resource for choosing the best tools for the tasks, bullets etc. I reload and use Barnes TSX all copper. Check out Tract Toric scopes - best bang for buck buy direct. It would be good to bring a friend (even female) and some overnight camping in some of these places. Maybe some Deer or Elk hunting via airplane.

Love ALL your videos and the long range shooting coverage was excellent! I just subscribed and will get some GKF Merch too! I'm former US Military (two branches) and flew the AH-1S Cobra back in the day... now I'm all backcountry flying focused and getting ready for a kit build in first half of 2023. After many years in Aviation (Military & Airlines) I started to trade the markets full-time. For over 15 years, I have been a full-time trader (Futures & FX) so I have the time freedom now to get another kitplane build started. I'm going to build something that I can get completed as soon as possible so I will be in the air by early Oct of 2023. Once that build is done I want to start on a Rans S-21 with the Viking 195 hp (Honda 1.5L Turbo) for my primary backcountry aircraft. I'm thinking of moving out of Texas in first half of 2023 and relocating to Arizona... get closer to the backcountry region I like best!

Thank you! Very kind!! That is badass!! (Cobra) wow! Enjoy those builds, that sounds exciting. I need to get down there and explore it further. Lot of open space for flying, shooting etc. there... Plus as you said, really sets you up for Utah and surrounding areas with great flying as well! Thanks for the awesome comment 👍

I have a Savage 110 Hog Hunter in .308. It was difficult to find a bolt action rifle with iron sights and that’s why I chose the Hog Hunter. Was going to put a muzzle brake on it, and that was the only thing I was going to do, but instead I put a heavy Bell & Carlson stock on it and a scope. The stock and scope added so much weight that I skipped the muzzle brake. Savage makes good stuff.
@GravityKnightFlying
@GravityKnightFlying Жыл бұрын
The brake has been interesting.. first time installing and using them (other than my AR and SLR95 which came with them factory, but are small enough cartridges it wasn't really needed anyway). They are quite violent when behind the rifle. Loud and an abruptly violent concussion. I get why they say the guy shooting next to you really won't like you haha. I have a heavier stock I put on my heavy barrel 308 that doesn't have a brake... and I get what you are saying, it doesn't kick bad. But the recoil reduction is incredible. I looked at a lot of reviews before buying the ones I did, and they showed like a 55+ % reduction in recoil. This 6.5cm barely has any kick with this brake... amazing what they do in that regard. The Savage is an interesting deal... they seems to have pretty decent barrels, and decent features for the money (this one had a couple things I really wanted, the threaded heavy barrel, drop magazine, big bolt, not overly heavy etc.) But I did have trouble feeding rounds.. it wouldn't feed for crap when I got it. I did some googling and found it's a now common 110 action issues.. had to pull the extractor pin, and grind a 45degree angle on it facing the firing pin. Once that was massaged, it has now fed rounds basically flawlessly... It's a common and known issue Savage really needs to address.. otherwise a solid gun. Thanks!
@gapster46
@gapster46 Жыл бұрын
@@GravityKnightFlying I don’t remember having any problems with the bolt on my Savage .308. I bought a box of steel case rounds once and it didn’t like the steel very much. Rough on the action. Wasn’t long after I bought the rifle before I started reloading for it. I’m a little recoil sensitive these days with arthritis in my neck and shoulder, so it’s been a while since I’ve shot it. I would think that if I put a muzzle brake on it I would need ear plugs and ear muffs. Shooting rifles with muzzle brakes just doesn’t look like fun.

thanks Ron! thats awesome! What calibers do you shoot at long range? 1100 is pretty far. I was pretty solid at 800 at one time (I can get 800 on my home range, but will have to find one of these spots to go out longer - which is a great adventure in itself so not complaining). I'd like to shoot a mile with the seekins/6.5prc at some point, but I'll work up to that, 800 is currently tough enough... still anticipating the shot and wincing even though it doesn't kick hardly at all. I just need to fling so more led and get back to the point where I stop that again.

My most accurate rifle is a 6xc, but I also shoot 2 6.5 Creedmores and a .260 Remington. I always shoot suppressed and my rifles weigh close to 18 lbs. No felt recoil to speak of. I'm shooting across a narrow valley, so it is sometimes hard to determine what the wind is doing until after I pull the trigger. The longest shot I have made was over 1400 yards at the Whittington Center near Raton, NM, but the target was so big I don't count that. Lots of fun. :)

@GravityKnightFlying
@GravityKnightFlying Жыл бұрын
Great question. I have never bit the bullet (lol) and gone down the reloaded path. I have come close over the years, but always managed to find some nice ammo each gun would like. I had some nearly custom loaded ammo from a small shop in AZ for my .308 back in the day.. it was close to hand loaded and had great lupua scenar bullets.. very flat for a 308... then they went out of business. On this particular day in the video, I had some cheap $25/box winchester ammo and it was not very good. That was on me for buying a bunch of boxes of crap ammo. Since this video, I have tested a few other brands/weights etc. and found two good ones (Sig Elite hunter 130gr, and Hornady ELD 140gr match). The gun likes those two better. Good enough I think I'll stick with that for now. I do want to get into reloading, as you are correct, for ultimate accuracy per gun, it's the only way to go (I mean you reload, you know more about that than I do I'm sure). I have also heard what you are talking about that it's been very challenging to find the reloading supplies... that is a real bummer. So for now due to that, I'll keep searching for the best factory ammo to stock up on ( sheesh, its expensive!). I think the Seekins Precision rig really deserves some hand loads, and for reaching way out, probably a good idea.. so reloading may be in the future.

@@GravityKnightFlying gotcha, like I said I'm just starting down that rabbit hole lol, because I couldn't find ammo for my caliber.
