I think the guy falling out of the pickup got hurt worse than the pilot. The pilot did a good job for the situation he was in, he knew it was gonna flip.

I am thrilled to see that, at least, everyone was able to walk after. Planes can be fixed and brought back to life. People can't. Every landing you walk away from is a good landing in my book.

Wow. That was scary. Glad the pilot walked away! Seems like an eventful field. I recall a Sopwith Camel ground looping and hitting one of the buildings on the far side of the field.

Really? Darn, I guess if those old birds get landed often enough, no degree of effort and skill can avoid an eventual mishap.

Was a little surprised the air speed couldn't have been reduced more on end of approach, plus an extra flair to hold it longer on the good wheel. However, glad pilot was OK and - plane looks repairable, except not sure of how much damage may have occurred to that upper right cylinder and whether crank got hurt.

Agreed... it was way too hot. I'm coming in with a busted wheel carriage... I'm floating down just above stall speed and then flair it as it nears the ground. He probably would have pancaked softly and not damaged the plane so bad... and then that poor guy wouldn't have fallen out of the truck either. I think he knows it too.... watch as he crawls out of the cockpit, he pounds the ground violently with his fist.

No offense meant by this comment but I would have tried to come in as slow and low as possible while using just enough power to stay on the starboard side tire to make the eventual nose-over with the least amount of energy possible.

Wow way too fast, been to ORA many times, that looked north of 60 at least, flare and stall 3 feet up and get the prop stopped, saw the Bleriot get caught in a cross breeze, got the prop stopped, but damaged the gear hitting the white fence, was there when Tony Nasta died, had a running joke with him "How's your Anzani been?"

Looks like a Fleet, not sure, but the damage is fixable although expensive. And of course this assessment comes only after knowing that all concerned walked away from it.

Not that rare an incident in early aviation aircraft landing on dirt fields. It’ll be rebuilt likely in a year or so. Damaged,yes,but repairable. Fortunately nobody was killed. I wonder who does this guys maintenance? FAA is gonna have fun with his mechanic.

hot doggin on takeoff. Tried to get it off the ground from the small rise at the south end of the runway before reaching the bottom of the rise. Basically a stall on takeoff that busted the gear when it came back down but he was still able to get it airborne.

what happens to the gear? - take care if you jump out of your pickup
@fred616407 жыл бұрын
The left landing gear snapped on take-off, and the right one snapped on landing. Pilot and passenger were ok, so also was the person who jumped out of the pick-upResponse time: the local Fire Company was notified of the situation and the plane flew around burning off fuel while they arrived and setup.

The speed kept in approach and in the flare was very high, moreover it kept the engine on . . . and therefore it had not closed the fuel circuit. All this makes me think that he had no radio on board . . . and therefore he had not noticed the damage to the gear.

why was he punching the plane when he got out lol not its fault
@alexbrowne55107 жыл бұрын
My guess is that it's his plane or he has a stake in it. Not only in money but possibly also in time restoring it. Takes a lot of passion to restore an old airplane and if he was in on that he may have felt it was his fault or that he could have done something better, or possibly just disgust at the fact it happened. Just a guess. I agree that the aircraft looked a bit fast at touchdown, however since I was not there it is not my place to comment on the job the pilot did in landing the aircraft, especially in the condition it was. The most important thing is that they walked...although the dude falling out of the pickup almost didn't. LOL Believe the aircraft was a Fleet 16? Anyone who knows the aircraft/was there care to chime in? Are they going to restore it?
@Skinflaps_Meatslapper6 жыл бұрын
HONDARIDER...If you look at the wing during the walkaround, you'll notice that there aren't any holes in the fabric on that section of the wing....he was just punching the ground, apparently. abro....Yes, it's a Finch 16-B, and to my knowledge they've simply placed it in storage, presumably in a queue for restoration at a later date.
