I went to an airshow at Rhinebeck, NY once in the early 1970's. They had most (if not all) of the planes there from the movie "Those Magnificent Men in Their Flying Machines"! Lots of fun! My favorite plane from that movie was the plane where the pilot sat in the landing gear under the fuselage! Looked really sporty! I bet landings in it weren't fun!

Richard Gerlach do they still continue the Rhinebeck show?? I can’t imagine a plane like you describe. Have a great weekend...

Promise of Yeshua- I have no idea. I haven't been in NY in years. Do a Google search. And have a great weekend yourself!

Yes, the Aerodrome is very much alive and kicking and there are all sorts of airplanes added to the airshows every year. Plan your visit today and come support the work we do, thanks!

What fun to find this! I was there for the meet (BTW it's the WWI JAMBOREE, not "Jubilee") that year with my Dad. I was in high school at the time, I had a 3 channel Morane-Saulnier M model, with an O.S. Max .35 engine and a Kraft radio, ready to fly that day, but it was so windy that day that I decided to leave the plane in the car as I had only flown it a few times. I vaguely recall the title of this film so I must have heard about it, but I don't think I ever actually saw it. I flew into the Aerodrome last fall, except for the faces (RIP Cole) it hasn't changed in any important way.

That was awesome and that Snoopy doghouse 👍. A lot has changed since then wonder if that place is still around.

Yes, Old Rhinebeck Aerodrome is still there, and they still have the model meet every year.

Full scale airshow every Saturday and Sunday during the season, weather permitting, and Radio Control Jamboree is still going strong-ALWAYS the 1st weekend after Labor day. This most recent one was the 53rd annual,

Back in the '90's, A&E aired a show called First Flights hosted by Neil Armstrong. They filmed several episodes here.

Wow these models look small! Back in 1974. Biggest engine was a Supertigre .74 or .90 then

I wonder how much of that is due to parents teaching their children to never talk to or interact with strangers because they are all evil child molesters. Those children are probably going to grow up fearing everyone except themselves.

Old Rhinebeck is a Testament that wood, wire, fabric and an internal combustion engine can actually carry you aloft and bring you back to earth again.

I think if I had spent hundreds of hours building a model like that I would be way too scared to actually fly it.
