THIS VIDEO IS A RECONSTRUCTION OF THE FOLLOWING SITUATION IN FLIGHT:
02-JUL-2024. A JetBlue Airways Airbus A320 (A320), registration N507JT, performing flight JBU153 / B6153 from New York John F. Kennedy International Airport, NY (USA) to Palm Beach International Airport, FL (USA) after departure was climbing out of Kennedy Airport when the air traffic controller reported that they had a report from a couple of planes that something had fallen off the plane. The pilot stopped climb at 5000 feet and reported some vibration as well. After the runway inspection 3 pieces of metal were found. The biggest piece was 3 feet in diameter. Subsequently the flight crew declared an emergency and returned to the airport of departure. After landing the aircraft stopped on the taxiway for inspection by the emergency personnel.

THE VALUE OF THIS VIDEO:
THE MAIN VALUE IS EDUCATION. This reconstruction will be useful for actual or future air traffic controllers and pilots, people who plan to connect life with aviation, who like aviation. With help of this video reconstruction you’ll learn how to use radiotelephony rules, Aviation English language and general English language (for people whose native language is not English) in situation in flight, which was shown. THE MAIN REASON I DO THIS IS TO HELP PEOPLE TO UNDERSTAND EVERY EMERGENCY SITUATION, EVERY WORD AND EVERY MOVE OF AIRCRAFT.
SOURCES OF MATERIAL, LICENSES AND PERMISSIONS:
Source of communications - www.liveatc.net/ (I have a permission (Letter) for commercial use of radio communications from LiveATC.net).
Map, aerial pictures (License (ODbL) ©OpenStreetMap -www.openstreetmap.org/copyrig...) Permission for commercial use, royalty-free use.
Radar screen (In new versions of videos) - Made by author.
Text version of communication - Made by Author.
Video editing - Made by author.
HOW I DO VIDEOS:
1) I monitor media, airspace, looking for any non-standard, emergency and interesting situation.
2) I find communications of ATC unit for the period of time I need.
3) I take only phrases between air traffic controller and selected flight.
4) I find a flight path of selected aircraft.
5) I make an animation (early couple of videos don’t have animation) of flight path and aircraft, where the aircraft goes on his route.
6) When I edit video I put phrases of communications to specific points in video (in tandem with animation).
7) Together with my comments (voice and text) I edit and make a reconstruction of emergency, non-standard and interesting situation in flight.

One of the more noticeable things about this video is Newark labeled as KLGA.

If the JetBlue on the ground had more information he would have relayed back through JBU ops, I assume. No wonder the subject pilot said "Oh wow"......3 feet is kind of big. And well done the JBU on the ground...watching company traffic taking off.

This is one of my favorite KZbin vlogs. All we hear about is BA yet it seems like 2/3 of the mechanical returns these days are AB 320 series aircraft. They got bad corporate press today because a 787 hit turbulence as if it would not have affected and Airbus plane.

Great communication here. Only thing I wonder, why do they need fuel in pounds?

Nope weight is everything when plane is fully fuel most times they are required to dump fuel to decrease weight to save the air frame…

"Fuel in Pounds" (fuel in weight) is needed by ARFF just in case there's a fire after landing. It helps them predetermine required resources (foam, water, trucks, etc) for the response in case it's needed. BTW, in most other countries, they use kilograms instead of pounds -- so when an international flight is having an emergency, and are asked for their fuel, they often reply in kilograms instead. Most US controllers know how to convert kgs to pounds, so, no worries, usually. Fuel in time, aka, "endurance" is needed by controllers so that they can better manage their airspace while the emergency is in progress. If a pilot reports "minimum fuel", or less than 45 minutes, controllers know that they must get that plane on the ground ASAP, and will immediately stop all departures and landings (in most cases) so that the plane can land without delay. "MAYDAY FUEL" has the highest priority, and requires that the controller(s) to get the plane on the ground immediately. All departures and landings are immediately halted until the MAYDAY FUEL plane is on the ground and the emergency is cleared. I am not a controller, but I do know a few in my aviation career. With that said, I may have some details off, but in general, thats the reasoning.

Not for landing. There is bout a 3K+ threshold on 22R, lowering the LDA to ~8,100. Also, 13R/31L still may have been closed due to the FOD inspection for he crap they dropped on the runway. If that is the case, they would have had only about 5K to the LASHO line for landing.

I've noticed it always takes a minute for a pilot to answer the "how much fuel onboard" question. Does the pilot have to look elsewhere in the cockpit for this answer? There never seems to be a gauge in front of the pilot to just read.
