You are talking about how good Robert Plant's vocals are. I have seen Robert Plant playing lead guitar in a show back in 94, not with Led Zep, but in a solo project. He had a gift as a singer.

Too funny, and I swear I hadn't seen your comment until just now...after these guys reviewed Night Flight (I think), I compared them to an NBA lineup starting Magic Johnson and Michael Jordan as the guards, Larry Bird and LeBron James as the forwards, and Kareem Abd-Jabbar at center. JPG counts as two players for all the different things he does. Heck, might as well give him the 6th Man Award too! 😁

Bonham was drumming with 4-sticks, listen for the clacking sound!!🎶 Robert said in an interview once, that he discovered that "wild banshee" voice when he was sitting in the bathtub after the water had drained-and-was just singing, (we-all know-bathroom acoustics are the best), and he went all out to see how high he could sing, and that voice came out to his surprise...the-rest is history!!🎶🎤 So, yes it was-all natural!!🎵❤❤

That’s what I had heard too, some others in comments are saying, they played it a few times live. I wish there was a visual of Bonham playing it, I do know he had a hard time playing it though. That’s how we got the song Rock & Roll, Bonham was frustrated & took a break.

This is a swirling, hypnotic song that incorporates the odd time mixture of 5/8 and 6/8. It has electric and acoustic guitars, bass and Jonesy throws a bit of prog-rock sounding element with a touch of synth. There's a bit of vocal effects added to Robert's voice and the drums have a massive amount of compression on them, which was difficult for engineer Andy Johns to mix. I love how it lifts up then slams down with a cymbal crash. Jimmy said it was meant to be abstract and I'd say they succeeded.

Zeppelin strived to make each song they did unique from anything they had done before. Only a couple times were there some songs that resembled each other. That’s one of my favorite things about them. You never know what you’re going to get. There wasn’t a genre they didn’t at least touch upon that existed up until their time-as well as inventing some new genres.

You just mentioned the key: It's always something different. It's what Prince said separates them from the rest. Further, Prince said they don't have a single song that sounds like their own, nor anyone else's songs. A feat only they did. In 1975, they had all 6 of their albums on the Billboard chart simultaneously. The only act in history to do so. Surpassed The Stones. Surpassed The Beatles.

This is one of my favorite songs from this album and catalog. That guitar riff is trance-like hypnotic even. Plant voice is amazing in this. John Bonham recorded this using four sticks - two in each hand - you can hear the sticks clicking together during most of the song. Jonseys driving bass is as good as any part of the song. His synthesizer part is pretty awesome too !

Great reaction as always! I’ve been really enjoying watching you all go down this Zeppelin road! Definitely my favorite band because of Bonham. I’m 56 years old I’ve been playing drums since I was nine years old and Zeppelin is what I cut my teeth on as a drummer! This song especially is very challenging. Bonzo is playing with two sticks in each hand. If you listen close you can here the sticks clicking together. Eighth notes on the bass drum and hi hat and kind of like a tribal drum pattern on the toms. At the time of this recording Bonzo was messing around with an African style drum rhythm which he thought would be really cool to do in a song. What he came up with is what you hear in Four Sticks, slightly modified from the original rhythm he was experimenting with.

Most successful rock band of all time, for good reason. As you've mentioned, they are all stellar musicians who already had years of playing professionally before Zep, but throw on top of that great live improvisation, as well as spectacularly creative and diverse song writers, how could you miss? And let's not forget that fourth dimension: chemistry. The guys in the band felt it the very first day they jamed together. One of the few bands in which you can go song to song, album to album finding nary a clunker on the way. Excellence supreme.

Hey boys-that crescendo portion is indeed JPJ using what was then a brand-new device, the VSC3. This is one of the earliest uses of it. It’s the device used by Roger Waters on the “On The Run” track from “Dark Side Of The Moon.” This track is criminally underrated on this record, and on the whole Zep catalogue.

For Plant, there was no training his voice -- just singing. "I used to deliver newspapers, and I got enough money to send off to King Records in Cincinnati from Worcestershire in England, as a 13-year-old," Plant says. "I got the original pressings of James Brown's Live at the Apollo -- a voice that's absolutely unbelievable. And then, whoop, some crackling radio underneath my pillow gives me Smokey Robinson singing 'Way Over There' -- 'What's this? This is what it is. This is people letting every single breath that they've got out.' It's just too much. I had to try and get there. - Robert Plant

I love that you guys are reacting to Zeppelin in chronological order… the crazy thing is that as good as the first four albums are… probably 75% of my favorite tracks are yet to come. “Physical Graffiti” is the juggernaut of Zeppelin’s latter days, an absolutely monumental double album with every color, every shade, every texture, every mood… mind blowing. I would suggest that between albums you should check out some live performances of tracks from the album you’ve just heard. One of the coolest thing about this band is how their songs that become part of the live sets, grow and evolve into something greater then the albums (IMO)

I would never even think to rank this "song" on my list of All-Time Zep tracks, because it doesn't even really feel like a song to me, it's so unorthodox in its structure. It sounds more like--especially the way it comes in at the start--like it's mid-jam, like I'm walking into a jam session. A killer jam session, but a jam session, nonetheless. Its a perfect "album cut", and its sound fits so perfectly in the album. Great reaction, fellas.
