One of my favorite SD songs that I feel is not given enough love. So infectious! And Michael McDonald’s voice is a perfect addition at his point in the song. And that choppy piano. I can’t help but move when I hear this. And as always, the musicianship is impeccable. For other artists with faultless musicianship, check out Rush and Yes!

I'm a guitar player and this might be my favorite song on Aja. That first solo and those picking Rythm fill lines in the outro fire me up.

A smorgasbord of musical motifs and rich harmony all put together with aplomb and caprice and irony.

I just love this song. And you nailed it - we wait for Steely Dan to “open up” and this song hits it with a tempo change and Michael McDonald delivering those sweet harmonies followed by that funky guitar solo. Highly underrated song.

Steely Dan is the only band where you can play 4 albums in a row and still feel like grooving* to more...! * Grooving: Is the act of placing a phonograph playing needle into a record groove.

Side one 1. "Black Cow" 2. "Aja" 3. "Deacon Blues" Side two 1. "Peg" 2. "Home at Last" 3. "I Got the News" 4. "Josie" From the sardonic liner notes written by Becker and Fagen themselves, included with the original gatefold vinyl release: I Got the News, a Manhattan-jukebox thump-along, serves as a vehicle for the coy pianistics of Victor Feldman whose labors are capriciously undermined by Walter Becker’s odd, Djangoesque guitar and a pointlessly obscene lyric.

Aja was the second album I bought right after Electric Light Orchestra, New World Record. Both bands, although quite different, have very intricate arrangements, with so much going on in each song. I took it for granted at the time, but absolutely miss today. Consider listening to "Tightrope" or Telephone Line". Love your reviews!

Can I make a request? If you want, check out Toto’s Georgy Porgy live in Paris 1990 (just titled “Toto - Georgy Porgy live” here on YT). Not the studio version. Just like Steely, it also has that smooth ass vibe with great playing and singing all around. Jeff Porcaro, the drummer, played with Steely Dan. Just a great groove.
