Only agree with you that I found out that you could use them as hearing aids. I found out that you can do live listen as well, but you have to have the phone next to whatever you’re trying to hear so it’s not as convenient and comfortable like it would be with transparency. I was shocked that when I had my AirPods Pro second generation on and set to transparency I was able to hear my mom talking on the phone, including who she was talking to but of course it was because she had her phone on speaker, but not with every word. That was just with me being in my room and my mom in the next room, but of course, with my door open. I’m sure that if I didn’t have my door open that I would still be able to hear her and who she’s talking to on speaker phone. I do have a 45% hearing loss in each ear. Thank you for the hard work that you put into this video.
@davidhill70553 жыл бұрын
People with age related hearing loss will say they can hear you, they just can't understand you. That is because they are hearing the vowels (non blocked sound) but missing certain consonants. Especially the higher frequency consonants like 's' and 'th' cannot be heard. Unlike vowels (made with the mouth open) all consonants are blocked in some fashion by the lips the tongue, the teeth, the soft/hard palate or some combination of those structures. This lowers the volume produced and if that consonant is also in the higher frequency it can't be heard. Thanks for this video.
@MotherDaughterVlogs Жыл бұрын
I’m 45% of hearing loss so I agree there are some of my letters that I can’t hear as well, like s, t, f and maybe one or two more letters don’t remember all of them.

My audiologist is spot on and amazing, but not all are equal. I do feel like the Airpods will open up the opportunity for more people to get the correction that they need AND maintain a level of control over the experience that they deserve. Hearing aid manufacturers are taking notes for sure.

@repla29924 жыл бұрын
Hi, I am 46 years old and my audio gram results are 63% left ear, 76% right ear with the Mimi app. I used this function with my pros and the sound is very mechanical. Looks like amplifying a little bit much than needed. The app says that I have slight loss of hearing but much for people at my age. It recommended me to see a doctor. 🤔
@LearnitAllCentral4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for sharing. By the way, MIMI will always recommend you see a doctor, so that's to be expected :) Have you ever worn hearing aids? My loss is about 50% in both ears and primarily in the higher frequencies. Your hearing loss is not that bad but you will likely still feel that the sound is very unnatural. After years of not hearing higher frequencies it was a little jarring the first time I was fitted with a pair. After a few days, it became more natural. From personal experience, I would recommend wearing them in quieter environments for a few hours at a time and slowly build up to wearing them more and more. Also, did you adjust the level of amplification in the Custom Transparency section of Hearing Accommodations? If not, you may want to check that setting. Additionally, you may want to take another test in MIMI to be sure that the first one was accurate. A quiet environment is critical and be sure that you have your Airpods on 50% volume. If you want to use another app, one that I've found that gives good results is "Easy Hearing Test" apps.apple.com/us/app/easy-hearing-test/id1433904646. It integrates with Apple Health as well.
@repla29924 жыл бұрын
Adam Carlan thank you very much for the response. I did the test for 3 times to be sure. It looks consistent. I adjusted the level for the transparency mode before the test. I don’t know if i will need hearing aids but it is definite that the people at my age seems to hear better than me generally. I wish you the best and I hope that the technology improves and this kind of hearing losses become unimportant for all of us.

Hi! I'm not an audiologist and can't make an official recommendation. I do know that tinnitus can be life altering. Keep in mind that some people with extreme tinnitus say that hearing aids of any sort aggravate their condition. I would definitely recommend seeking professional help for that. There are hearing aids that provide some relief for tinnitus but it's not foolproof. If it's minor, you may want to give these a shot and see if they provide some relief.

Thank you. Do these airpods pro work well on Android devices, as hearing aids? Are there other that compete or are mainly concerned with hearing aids?
@LearnitAllCentral4 жыл бұрын
There is not currently a way to set up custom transparency mode on an android device. You would need an iPhone with iOS 14 to set up the AirPods Pro. After that, you would be able to connect them to an android device and they will still retain your amplification settings. On the flipside, NuHeara makes the IQBuds and they have some comparable features with native android support. You may want to check them out. I don’t have personal experience with them so I can’t give you my recommendation specifically but I have heard they work well.

Adam Carlan I got them and did the Mini app and applied it but when I compared it to standard it sounded like it was clipping off the low mids and low tones so I stayed with the customized from the Apple AirPod app. Mimi described my hearing loss as moderate but I tested 57% on the left and 41% on the right. I have about twice the high end loss that you do. That said, I am enjoying these very much. Thank you! I cannot wait to try them after the tropical storm leaves🙃
@LearnitAllCentral4 жыл бұрын
Susan Beever that’s great news! You are in the moderate/moderate severe category. Just a tip: The reason that you feel like it’s clipping the low frequencies is because it’s enhancing the sounds that you are not used to hearing. I would take a few tests with Mimi to make sure that it’s consistent and go with that. If you go with the standard from Apple it won’t be customized to your specific hearing loss, and it won’t give you the full benefit of the enhancement. Hope you enjoy them. Let me know how it goes.
@susanbeever57084 жыл бұрын
Adam Carlan I watched a music video and realized that the small ear tips were not form fitting. So I did the test for fit and changed to the medium sized ones and it’s great, along with my MiMi audiogram. I think that to optimize this a test fit should be done every time I put the phones on. The reason I went to small was at first the mediums made my right ear feel plugged. I think it is the low barometric pressure from the tropical storm coming in and my sinus related situation. I put the phones in transparency and could understand all of the words on the tv quite nicely.
@LearnitAllCentral4 жыл бұрын
That’s great news! I recommend getting a set of memory foam ear tips from Amazon or EBay. That has help alleviate the occlusion effect for me. And, you are correct; it’s a good practice to perform a fit test after changing sizes.

@@MSRez95 In concept they were sound, but they were not an acceptable alternative for me. They did not provide enough volume increase. I tried to come up with a software frequency adjustment to further compensate for my high end hearing loss. I could not find one.There was no improvement over and above with what my Bose Hearphones provided. Unfortunately, they have been discontinued. I will continue using them until I find an acceptable replacement to the Hearphones. They are not that comfortable to wear for daily use. Pro Air Pods could be just what you need. I'm no Audiologist but, based on my tests, the amplification at the maximum level is quite powerful. Since the correction is based on an audiogram and adjusts the amplification accordingly I would say it would be worth a shot.

good day to you again Adam. New AirPods Pro arrived today as planned. Sadly the option to customise transparency mode does not appear on my iPhone. I have been on the chat screen with Apple for the past hour and even sent them your video link to watch as they didn’t understand what was missing. I am now waiting for a callback from the next level to see if they can help me find the custom transparency mode in the accessibility settings similar to what you have on your video I will keep you posted with the outcome.
@colingordon44 жыл бұрын
Well after 2 whole hours of Apple Care investigation, would you believe I found the reason why I couldn’t get the ‘custom transparency mode’ to appear in my options to select. This option only seems to become available if you place one of the pods in your ear whilst the other is still in the charging case. If anyone else follows your excellent video instruction and they come across the same problem, I would recommend they do the same thing as you did and leave one pod in the case and the other in your ear. The option to access the custom transparency will then appear as if by magic. It would appear that we have just taught Apple a rough and ready work around. Thanks again for the tip, it actually does work 😀👍😀 Next step is to try out the foam buds as you recommend in your following video

Thanks for the video. I had no idea that they supported this though it seem like they should given the design of the AirPods. I just tried it and so far I like it a lot. My hearing aids just can’t get the frequencies right. I play the bass clarinet and with my hearing aids on it sounds bad, and that’s not because of the way I play but it’s very tinny sounding. With the AirPods Pro it sounds great. I definitely can hear the difference over my hearing aid that is cost $1800. Of course there is the battery problem. Unless you buy two of these and change them out this isn’t going to be real practical is it? But thanks a lot for the information.

Hearing aids or hearing amplifiers? Big difference
@LearnitAllCentral3 жыл бұрын
Because you can use a custom audiogram to correct your hearing these are closer to hearing aids than hearing amplifiers. Traditionally, personal hearing amplifiers have preset enhancements in a limited frequency range.

@@LearnitAllCentral I like your idea to just use these as a temporary alternative to the hearing aid, but it doesn't replace the hearing aid. I'd like to get a set of these, but don't think it can realistically compete with a more refined HA. Definitely worth a shot though, I like the transparency feature and that it also has the corrections on playback so I get better sound than the HA can provide.

Do you need to keep the phone near you for it to work? It is working through the earbud microphone or phone microphone? So it is using the custom audiogram? Thanks for posting!
@LearnitAllCentral4 жыл бұрын
Hey Alan. Excellent Questions... 1. Once Custom Transparency is setup using an iPhone or iPad the settings are stored in your Airpods. So, they will continue to work when you don't have your phone or iPad nearby. 2. All the sound processing for transparency mode is happening in the earbud using Apple's H1 chipset. So, there is no perceived latency at all. It's fantastic. 3. Yes, the audiogram is setup in Apple Health using an app like MIMI. That data is then used inside of Hearing Accommodations and, as indicated above, that audiogram is stored in the Airpods for custom transparency mode. Hope that helps!

I don't see any option for "Audiogram" in Custom Audio Settings like it's shown on your screen at 6.22 . From what I understand you have to have a record in Health app to get this option. Do you know if there is a way to use iPad to configure the Airpods Pro to work with an audiogram obtained by the Mimi app?

@@LearnitAllCentral Thanks for the clarification! Got some more questions in case you know the answer: 1. Can you set the amplification once on an iPhone and then use an Android phone to adjust volume up or down? I have tried Apple's configuration for now (it is set currently at "Balanced Tone") and when putting the amplification level to the max, I can't say it's super loud.. works ok for my mild hearing impairment but I'm not sure it would work for my father (moderate). Would I get more amplification with the custom audiogram? 3. I suffer from 30% hearing loss in both my ears and have dealt with struggling with conversations for a long time. I’ve now been using AirPod pro’s for around 3 months now, predominantly in the workplace environment and can honestly say they have been a revelation. I just couldn’t accept paying upwards of $2 - 3,000 per ear for hearing aids knowing this tech was just round the corner. I’m glad I waited. Cons (not really cons when you look at the overall savings and benefits) are start alerting they are running out of charge around the 4-5hr mark but I generally stick them back in their case at lunch time. The case acts as a mobile charging station so by the time you get back from lunch you are good to go again. I just stick the case with the pods on charge at night like I do my phone. Another thing that might concern some is the need to purchase an apple phone or tablet to set the AirPods up correctly. You can get a relatively lowly spec iPad for very cheap nowadays brand new. You just have to make sure it can be updated to the latest iOS software. Another pro is you’ve now got a pretty cool tablet as well. All this is still magnitudes cheaper that pretty low spec hearing aids - you know, the kind you have to put batteries in and cant listen to music through or are noise cancelling for example. It’s a no-brainer 😉

Please note, part of the cost of hearing aids is having an audiologist to custom tune the hearing aids. I've been to two different audiologists, one that was bad and one that was great. Make sure to find a skilled and professional audiologist.
@LearnitAllCentral Жыл бұрын
I would clarify that statement by saying that, "hearing aid fit and comfort are only as good as the programming", which does rely on an audiologist. Fortunately, my audiologist is amazing and programmed my Audeo Paradise to perfection, but I want to point out that the cost of the hearing aids is, in fact, completely separate from the programming and, unfortunately, you cannot mitigate the cost of the ADDITIONAL hearing tests/programming with traditional hearing aids. However, you can get a hearing test and audiogram WITHOUT purchasing hearing aids. There are now devices that are home programmable (such as the AirPods Pro) that allow you to input a professionally acquired audiogram. In my real world experience, this is a fantastic option for those without deep pockets (at least here in the US). I'm going to to an updated video soon the the AirPods Pro 2 that talks about some of these amazing new features.

Hi Adam You refer to the test carried out by Abram Bailey on the Airpods at Hearing Tracker. This is part of his conclusion. “ As 'hearing aids' I consider them limited to milder losses.... my guess is most end users won’t be anywhere near their gain prescription......I see AirPods more as a first step for people with mild loss” I am afraid that this is going to deter more people than it will encourage and undermines the excellent work you are doing to promote the Airpods. The conclusion is based on the ability of the Airpods to meet a prescription, the Holy Grail of audiology which takes into account only how well a device is able to compensate for loss of amplitude at various frequencies. They go on to suggest in the same thread that any other measure is anecdotal! It's a view that could be widespread throughout audiology and why we are unlikely to see many unbiased reviews appearing of the Airpods as hearing aids. At the end of the day, it's how well devices like this work for the individual rather than what the lines across a computer screen tell an audiologist. Keep up the good work!
@LearnitAllCentral4 жыл бұрын
Hi Kate. Thanks for the feedback. Having spoken directly with Abram on multiple occasions I actually believe that he is one of the primary proponents of non-prescription advancements in the industry. His feedback is strictly objective and based on empirical data gathered from his REMs (Real Ear Measurements). However, it doesn't take into account personal experience, and he is realizing that the AirPods are serving people in a way that the data alone cannot account for. I plan on doing a followup video on the results of his REMs to help decipher what his data actually means. Also, his feedback on the lack of gain in the AirPods for a moderate to severe hearing loss is accurate but I'm actually hearing from people that the AirPods work better. It's likely due to the noise cancellation tech that is used to help isolate speech. His initial review didn't take that into account. Lastly, I will be doing some side-by-side comparisons of the AirPods and "real" hearing aids in the near future. Stay tuned for that :)
@katerumble54464 жыл бұрын
Hi Adam You are to be applauded for taking up the challenge of discovering why the Airpods are apparently providing as much benefit as the feedback from most users suggests they are. No small task! I assume you won't be looking at the REM numbers in isolation. Every pair of ears is different! It's more than possible if you were to do the same test yourself you would come to different conclusions as to the Airpod's ability to meet a prescription. It's this uniqueness that brought about REM and allows the audiologist to adjust the gain across the frequencies so that a device can more closely meet the prescription for a particular individual. It's much less useful in reverse mode to try to assess how accurately it delivers the gain in the first place. For that you would probably need fifty pairs of ears! In any case, as Bose have shown with their Hearphone, it's not meeting a prescription that necessarily determines how much benefit a device offers. There, it was a lot to do with a combination of ANC and compression. You may well find something similar with the Airpods. I'll stay tuned!

occlusion effect: kzbin.info/www/bejne/i2qagqWbe8qrjLc It very strong with Airpod because there main purpose is to reduce external noise when one listens to music before the ACR kicks in. it is done with the silicon plug that are excellent in penetrating outside noise but generate OE. Excellent points and I fully agree. Apple’s initial objective was to isolate the output and trap low frequencies by creating a good seal. Makes perfect sense if you are using them for music.
