Thanks for sharing, Jason! My entire life has been wearing hearing aids, as my hearing issue was congenital. Been really curious about the iOS 18 feature, because I tend to wear my AirPods Pro when I go for power walks and for exercise out of my home. I'd love to try the feature out so that I can use them for, say, walking around, and try out convos with mepoel with them on. It's a pain when I can't hear someone even with the AirPods on, then have to remove them and put my hearing aids on, which is mostly not possible since I leave them at home during my power walks and exercises. Also, since my hearing loss is moderate to severe, not yet sure how well the feature will work, but worth a try. Really appreciate the video. Also, might be worth checking out Costco for hearing aids...pro tip!

Thanks for the discussion about the improvements from using the accessibility feature. One thing on charging is that you can take one bud out at a time to charge. It add a decent amount of charge quickly.

We meet again sir 😁 I've been wanting to know how this works. I lost hearing in one ear. My remaining ear was my bad ear. So this could be a game changer for me.

I think this is great. As someone who has used hearing aids for a long time that were molded for my ear and calibrated using real ear measurement by an audiologist, I am sure I wouldn't find these sounding all that great, but if my hearing aids aren't with me (which has happened) I love the fact that this option now exist.

Excited to get the 18.1 next week! I find the current set up inconsistent, for example, "Custom Transparency Mode" in settings, which enables the hearing-aid function, randomly turns off. Very frustrating. In any case, if this is corrected in 18.1 and the sound quality improves, that's a definite win-win! Thanks for the report!

Jason, really appreciate this review of the APP2 from someone who can actually benefit from them, you are the first I've seen so thank you! As someone who has been diagnosed with mild-moderate hearing loss I was really excited for this feature and after having used it for a few days my impression is, mixed bag but generally positive. On the plus side, it does amplify the sounds in my world so I can in fact hear my wife better and I can hear the TV better (and because of that I can keep the TV volume lower which makes her happier...happy wife happy life). On the down side it amplifies everything else, so if the dogs are chomping on bones, I hear that more. I actually find that I hear myself in my head more so the oclusion effect seems to be worse for me. If you're outside in the wind, forget about it. And sharp sounds like metal on metal, forks hitting plates, etc. kind of hurt my head. For me it's best after dinner if we're just sitting down to watch TV. Overall I think it's a positive life improvement so I say bravo to Apple for coming out with this feature!

Try adjusting the ambient sound slider in the settings. That will tone down the chewing sounds, etc
@rherteux22 сағат бұрын
@@thejasontlewis I've been playing around with that slider and you're right with the ambient noise, but then it impacts how well I can hear the TV at level that doesn't annoy my wife. We'll see how they refine this over time. I'm encouraged and I think it's a fantastic start.

Hi Jason Thank You for your review. I also noticed makes people speech much clearer! The occlusion effect for me actually is a little greater, but I’ll play with the settings. Can’t wait to get the AirPods Pro 2 and take this test. I’m worried I might have some hearing loss. I worked in the engine room of ships during the first two years of my career, and that might have caused some damage over the years. Plus, I've always worn earphones, whether wired or wireless. I may have my criticisms of Apple on many things, but they got this one right. Well done, Apple!
@J.B-is8fb11 сағат бұрын
As someone that has moderate to severe hearing loss this is a step in the right direction. I wear an actual hearing aid in one ear and go without in the other just because it seems to balance out the background noise for my personal preference. For context last time I had a hearing test I had about 50% left in one ear and 75% in my good ear. Although that was years ago now.

Just note that Apple states that as with many hearing aids, this is rated for minor to moderate hearing loss. If you need something for severe loss, this is not for you. Maybe someday, but not now. Almost no insurance covers hearing aids. That’s a shame. Costco has their own hearing aid models that they. Will set up for you, but the cheapest is $879. The most expensive is $1,995. If you need/want custom fitting adapters, that’s more. They get good ratings. They have a good warrantee. But the survey noted that the breakage rate under warrantee is an astounding 55%!

Great video! For me Airpods 2 as a hearing aid is a godsend in one specific area. I've used prescription hearing aids for almost ten years and have been through two pairs of Oticon hearing aids at $5000/pair. I also wear prescription glasses. Until now I could only use over-the-ear headphones if I wanted media to sound good (hearing aids + headphones = reasonably normal sound). Unfortunately, "real estate" above and behind my ears is limited with hearing aids and glasses, so headphones (like Airpods Max) are uncomfortable with the pressure they exert on my ears. I can now swap out my hearing aids for Airpods 2, which are "tuned" to compensate for my hearing deficit both in transparency mode and with media, and they are comfortable. The rest of the time I still prefer my hearing aids which provide more balanced sound.

Hi Jason this is Christopher from Brantford Ontario in in Canada, and I wanted to let you know I've been a long time viewer however I rarely comment but I do enjoy your content. I also wanted to let you know that soundcore by anchor has a couple both over-the-ear and earbud versions that have the same idea they call it h e a r i d. I recently purchased the soundcore space 1 headphones, P40i Earbuds with the same technology They are both fantastic items and for me much cheaper than buying products from Apple.

I belong to the other club - Android, so I tried the Samsung Galaxy Buds 3 Pro with my Samsung S24 Ultra. They too had impressive features and functionality. There was a 10 band hearing test, noise reduction, ambient sounds, 10 band EQ, etc. I was impressed with the sound delivered to my Buds. Phone calls and music were corrected to my hearing test. The big disappointment however was that the EQ curve or my manual EQ setting were not transferred to the EarBuds to process the ambient sound, so they don't function as hearing aids unless listening to music from the phone or taking a call. Do the AirPods EQ the ambient sound?

I have moderate hearing loss. I am using airpods pro 2 as hearing aids but I noticedthat it is essential to keep your iphone connected to airpods always. Is there any solution to use airpods as hearing aids without keeping always connected to my iphone?

This is interesting to see Apple dip into this "market" or with the features they have. They are likely contributing enormously to noise induced hearing loss so it's good to see some address to it.

It won’t let me take a hearing test. I have 18.1 installed, latest AirPods Pro (usb-c) firmware installed. It let me tap the take hearing test button. Then it says I need to clean my AirPods. Which I have done. Then it says that I need to run a diagnostic and to put the AirPods Pro in the Sade and stir the lid and I can try again in a few minutes. I’ve give it a good 15 minutes and when I open them and try again it says the exact same thing. I tried waiting longer and still no help. I called Apple and they claim they can do a remote diagnostics on AirPods, but I know that’s not true. So I’m stuck
