if apple did this, and enabled music to be downloaded onto the case, i wouldn’t even need my phone on short hiking trips and walks. would be a new style walkman, and not really an ipod with a limited display

Not sure how into hiking you are but many gps watches allow music to be downloaded onto them. My garmin epix has this along with maps and is very useful for not needing to carry my phone when i dont need to.

This makes no sense 💀 most of those controls exist on the AirPods themselves - it’s just another screen that would make the case more delicate

Just another gimmick azz feature that'll likely trend but fade into irrelevance just as quick as those (blinded binge consumers) ppl will potentially fall for it. I think with Google leading the tech innovation for our smartphones 📱 right now at least in this let of the race is a comfortable, controlled, relevant and purposeful pace that allows buyers to take their time when purchasing devices especially with AI and all the tech specs being revamped and inclined almost at a graceful and (T2T / TTT / T3) True-To-Texh pattern. Google is leading the race and setting the trend currently and there might be a debate but it's for blind enthusiasts for these manufacturers. Look around there are literally only a few OEM's left standing... APPLE, GOOGLE, SAMSUNG, ONEPLUS and if you want to mention SONY and MOTOROLA you can but they'll dissolve eventually.

Imagine never having to whip out your phone to change a song. I usually have to control from my watch so k don’t have to reach for my phone. This is useful for when you’re working out and you don’t want to have to pull out your phone.

On the contrary, this makes complete sense. It is the iPod mini, the one everyone jogged around with on their arm but with EarPods! 256GB to 1 terabyte storage. This is simple for apple to implement and sell millions of.

They should have a version sold with the headphones included. They can also sell one when you can use your own headphones so you’ll just have to buy the case. That way you can choose. People can make fun and complain all they want but don’t b take it away from people that actually want this. I currently have to use my Apple Watch to change songs but with the watch you don’t get the features you get from having your phones Apple Music menu

A good feature will be to take pictures from the case (asuming you positioned your phone to take a group picture). Other than that, I don't see another useful use case 😀

The reason for putting a display on the AirPod case is for those people that do not like wearing a watch. I would gladly pay for as much of the functionality of an Apple Watch that Apple could put into the case. Almost like a pocket watch! Those of us that refuse to wear anything on our wrist are missing out on some very useful integration features that we could finally participate in.

This is awesome for when you’re in the gym. The gym I work at has lockers nearby. You can stick your phone into the locker nearby and just need to walk around with your AirPod case and change your song from it? Who likes carrying in a heavy phone when you’re jogging on a treadmill. I know I’d love this and know alot of people that would definitely buy this

I don’t think this is reason enough for them to do it. If it happens it will be for something new they are introducing. Maybe something like heart rate being read from your ear. I don’t think that would be it but something like that where they could justify including it with a price increase.

Much cooler if theres a display. The screen can simply display QR code for easy connection. Another thing is, the user can easily see how much battery left at the airpods. There are so many possibilities if theres a screen.

This is Apple's Way of addressing the walled garden thing for sure. Now they can sell AirPods to people without an iPhone, and still provide the same level of Apple UX they won't get from another brand.

I am using one, surprisingly very similar quality with my airpod pro. They are not really bad, only downside is the anc is a bit weak, it works but the original did it better, small difference though. I would buy it over my overpriced airpod pro.

No one will pay for that (Extra $$ for a screen) because the Apple Watch has the same features that the screen on the AirPods. I hope AirPods with an internal iPod shuffle...

This is the most pointless thing, I have the AirPod pros 2 you literally can do everything on the AirPods , volume , noise cancellation, back to transparency mode, skip songs , pause, go back. This LITERALLY does not make any sense

Extra tech for the sake of tech, don’t see it being all that useful for people already vested in the apple ecosystem which would be the people they wanted to target with a minimalistic device such as air pods, it’s prob one of those patents meant solely to have their competitors chasing their tails doubt pretty highly we even see it make its way to the public if an official apple logo stamped on it
