tips I have heard is when you are going through security; you should do this 1. go to the left one - since most people are right handed we go to the right side 2. avoid queues with babies - their parent(s) most likely will be bringing formula and it will have to be checked. 3. queue where it seems to be more business people i.e wearing suits - they are more used to going through security and the line may move faster

These were some great tips, and I work as a Gate agent for a major airline at the airport. Believe me, we see a LOT of crazy stuff through-out our day, so I'll share a few of my "hacks". 1. Repeating what she said, but being nice to the airport agents during a delay/cancellation will make a world of difference. During these irregular operations we prepare for yelling & lots of angry people. So imagine our surprise when a friendly face walks up & says "I know you guys hate it when the flights delay. It's not your fault the weather is bad/mechanial occured...etc." We LOVE this! And...we have a LOT of power regarding what we can & can not do. Now, with this being said, the majority of us are on your side, so we want to help you in every way we can. BUT, this does not mean we can/will bump you to first class, give you several hundereds of dollers in vouchers, etc because you shed some tears. We have limits, but we can do quite a bit, so instead of demanding first class or vouchers, be kind & patient & usually the agent will offer them. Also, when a delay/cancellation occurs, use the airline app to LOOK at alternate options, The app can rebook you, but it can't give you any compensation like an agent can, and sometimes, doesn't come up with the best/quickest option for you. Most gate agents will allow passengers to line up during a delay. If you have a good gate agent, they will likely make an announcement for you to stay seated & allow him/her to work through the connections. This givses the agent the ability to book a passenger that is going to (insert city) on a flight that is leaving shortly, where they would have most likely missed that opportunity if they were waiting in a long line. Also, have a few alternate airports for the agent to look at. This can come in handy if it is a small city with a limited number of flights per day. We will often give ground transportation to your destination depending on the number of milage.2. I usually recommend getting to the airport 2+ hours prior to your flight time. You can never predict traffic/long lines at TSA, problems with check-in, etc. The more time you allow yourself, the less stressed you will be. Also, getting to the airport sometimes gives you an opportunity to get on an earlier flight. I work in a small airport & often try to move folks who are there to get them to their connecting city a little earlier just in case something goes wrong. Even on good weather days, we can never predict a mechanical cancellation or oversell, so we like to help us by helping you on to the earlier flight (usually free of charge!).3. If you are a frequent traveler, get to know the agents that work for the airline you travel on most. I see some people every week when they are flying out. They stop by & chat (if I'm not too busy) and most I know by name. This can help on days during irregular opperations, I have called/emailed some of my frequent travellers to advise them of a delay & rebooking options even before they've gotten to the airport. Hope some of these help!

For me, I'd rather go to the airport 3 hours ahead (or 3.5 - 4 hours ahead if it's a busy airport) just to make allowances for if something happens when I'm traveling to the airport and other unexpected things that may not allow me to board quickly. (eg traffic jams/someone in front of the line being a jerk to the airline counter staff/security/etc) If nothing happens and if I still have time, I'd usually kill time by walking around after I've checked in and cleared customs and exploring the place-perhaps even getting a bite to eat or a souvenir. (and of course, visiting the toilets) I'd only start heading towards the boarding lounge about an hour to 45 mins (this may take about half an hour at most but I'd like to make an allowance for if I get lost or something) for my flight. I dunno man... I'm probably the kind of weirdo who believes that even the airport in itself is kind of a tourist attraction...

I'm loving Australia at the mo'! Sydney to Melbourne, busiest airline route on Earth. You need to be checked in 30 minutes before your flight, then walk through security to your gate. Personalising your suitcase is the best advice. Fluoro tag, spray paint- whatever. One courtesy I find lacking at airports is luggage collection. Don't stand and wait beside the conveyer belt. It makes it hard for people to quickly grab their bag and haul it off. If everyone is two steps back they all can step forward to get their things without needing others to step aside.

@ftngie5 жыл бұрын
LC maybe something happens that prevents people from getting there early. that’s why she gave advice if you’re late !
@buffaleen5 жыл бұрын
Actually I think the cutting in line, or telling airport staff you're late, is for connecting flights esp if you're going from a domestic flight to an international flight & you need extra time for customs, etc
@Dujenny4 жыл бұрын
Or international to domestic. Our flight was delayed because the gate wasn’t ready and our two-three hour layover we were supposed to have quickly became we had to cut in security line, try to speed through customs, and run to catch our flight.

Please don't be afraid to ask airport employees for assistance as we know all the shortcuts and ( VERY IMPORTANT !! ) if we can't help you will most likely know someone who can. But if you find yourself in a trying situation ( delays, flight canceled, running late, airline fees ), do not take your frustration out on us as it will lead you nowhere.

Just a heads up - you said that spinner (4 wheel) suitcases were ALWAYS better than an upright (2 wheel) suitcase. That is not entirely true. Spinners are best for flat surfaces such as airports and hotels. But if you are traveling on cobblestones or rocks you want an upright. Why? because a spinner will get caught in the grooves of the rocks and cobblestones where the uprights will bounce across them. So choose your wheels based on how often you will deal with rough surfaces. Spinners will have to be carried over the rough surfaces and if you overpacked that could be a lot to lift.

Whenever I travel, I have a cabin bag filled with all my stuff (mostly taken up by camera gear + laptop), but I make sure to pack an almost empty fabric bag for after I've gone through security. That way I can just pack all the stuff I've had to take off/out and carry on my shoulder, and don't have to stop and re-pack everything before heading to my gate. I also carry a small purse with passport and travel documents, but that usually ends up inside the fabric bag. The fabric one is also where I keep all the things I need access to on the actual flight. Any handbags/purses I need are either packed in checked in bags or in the cabin bag, as they aren't always ideal for packing for a hand-luggage.

I always go for the front row seats because sometimes it has more legroom! And I always pre-order meals online because it's cheaper & they always serve pre-booked meals first during the flight. Also, if you already have a black bag, use your creativity & decorate it a little! I use those coloured luggage tags (you can buy it at an airport or stationary store) & also sometimes I tie coloured shoe laces on the handle of the bag. :)

Don't try and sympathize with airline staff. Just be real, tell us what's going on and done. I don't want to hear/see you cry. Also ticket counter and gate agents can do the exact same thing. Also if you're late...TSA does not care if you're late. If you're in a big city...plan to be to the airport 3 hours ahead of time. Back to airline explanations...Bringing a manager out or lead will only be them explains what the agent just told you in dummy terms. Basically don't be annoying entitled or terrible. We will want to help you and possibly go the extra mile. DONT ACT ENTITLED

Biggest tip of all- arrive early, especially with busy airports,
@EnisudR8 жыл бұрын
If you book with an online company like Travelosity or Orbitz, ALWAYS go to the airline's website afterwards to reserve your seat because the online company sometimes fails to transmit that info to the airline.

What's the difference in price between economy and premium economy class??
@tiffanyedavenport8637 жыл бұрын
It depends on the length of the flight. I'm going from ATL to Barcelona next year, and mine was $99 each way. But I've seen domestic flights that were less.

Grt tip on ordering "special meals!". LOL yes the black bag! Carrying empty water bottle is not only genius, makes so much sense!!!
@ElsieMarina8 жыл бұрын
also it might not be a good idea to not be 3 hours before or the time the airline asks you to be, since when they overbook or when they are just being asses sometimes they'll argue you weren't there "x hours before the flight" :O, it has happened to me
@Zasi248 жыл бұрын
+Elsa Marina I agree, I don't really see the value of spending 15- 30 extra minutes at the house if 500 dollar flights are at stake. I say it's better to be smart about it and bring a great snack to the airport :) And yes, I also fly quite a bit, it's a matter of realising flying is going to take a lot of time and accepting that

Hey Nadine, Thanks for the tips and tricks. Like you, I always carry an empty water bottle through security. Here's a related tip: The night before I travel, I freeze a water bottle half full of water. This is allowable through security, since it is not a liquid or gel. Of course, if any of the ice has melted, I drink it before going through security. Once through security, I fill the bottle at the water fountain and then have ice cold water for several hours. I carry the empty water bottle also for three reasons: 1) in case my ice was ever confiscated (and I think it was confiscated once when returning to the U.S. from overseas, but never through domestic security, as they know ice is allowable), 2) to have some extra water on the flight, as some domestic carriers (e.g., Allegiant) don't provide any free drinks (not even water) on the flight, 3) to have some water when I arrive (as some of the countries I've traveled to don't have water fountains with safe drinking water at their airports).

I work for an airline and used to be one of the customer service leads, so when things got delayed or cancelled I'd have to deal with an insane amount of irate people. You're SO right in saying that yelling doesn't do anything and that being nice actually works in your benefit. We would purposely go the extra mile for those who treated us with respect and courtesy, being nice definitely helps :D

I usually fly business class these days unless it's something like an hour and half flight. By going business on long haul flights one gets the benefit of lounge access, which also has showers, plenty snacks, meals, cakes and pastries laid out as well as premium alcoholic drinks and champagne! up to date magazines news papers and tv - usually they are tunes to the news channels. The reception staff also let you know when your flight is boarding. One also gets priority boarding, once seated your offered something to drink, like fruit juice or champagne before take off! One also gets a separate checkin desk and priority fast track through departures. For the past several years we (my husband ) have been flying long haul from Scotland to family in San Francisco and Melbourne sometimes doing it all as part of a round the world trip. When there are several refuelling stops or changing planes again there is the lounge access which really helps if your feeling in need of a shower to freshen up. The lounge access is for which ever airline we are travelling on, Emirates are the best lounges and staff. These lounges are different to the ones you can pay to have access to, these tend to be quite basic and only really let you spend around 2 hours in them! I also don't recall any having shower access either. Once you get to boarding your flight you can ask if there is any chance of an upgrade? This has worked for me in the past. As Nadine said always be polite with staff never loose your temper or take your frustration out on them. Just ask yourself if someone shouted at you - would you go out of your way to help ? the answer I'm sure is NO. One of the best travel tips I can give is invest in a pair of compression knee high socks as they will help not only to prevent a DVT but swelling ankles and lower legs. If you've ever been in hospital and had surgery you ay of been given a pair of anti-embolic stockings to wear for your surgery, if you were permitted to keep them use these during your flight. If you do find your on a long haul flight and don't have any of these sock types and your feet and ankles are swelling up, get up and walk about a bit, use the toilet, sit on the toilet lid and put your feet up on the door making sure your feet are above hip level, sit like this for a few minutes but only do this when there isn't a line of people waiting for the toilets. Certain countries will ask you to declare things your taking into their country. For example Australia will want to know about any food your taking into the country, tell the truth, you may be given the all clear to keep it. Don't lie as it can cause you a large financial find and or possibly denied access into the country.

If you are going though Hartsfield Jackson Airport in Atlanta Georgia I would get there 3 hours early at the very least. If I was doing an international flight though that airport I would get there even earlier then that. I use to live near Atlanta and that airport can get crazy busy! And not to mention the traffic you could get stuck on the way to the airport, can't forget about that! Also if your going though this airport use the tram subway system they have to get from terminal to terminal. Makes life a lot easier! Also I have a black suit case. It's a nice one that was given to me. How would recommend to make it stand out?

Never (!) buy a 4-wheeled suitcase! 4-wheeled suitcases are very comfortable as long as you're in an airport. As soon as you leave the airport and get on a road or side walk with bad surface (like London) or in a pretty medieval town with copplestone roads 4-wheeled suitcases with their tiny wheels are a nightmare! Buy 2-wheeled suitcases with inlineskate wheels - they have soft rubber wheels with bigger diameter (much biger that the 4-wheeled versions).
@svenlima7 жыл бұрын
You can pull any suitcase - even without wheels ... - but the bigger the wheels the better. 4-wheeled suitcases have tiny wheels. If +Eli Smith's friend had problems with a 2-wheeled suitcase it was certainly not because in had only 2 wheels but some other technical issue. It's my experience and I don't want to hold back anybody to do his/her own (bad or good) experiences ... :-)
@svenlima7 жыл бұрын
+Eli Smith. You are happy with your suitcase because you never walked on a gravel road or through Havana or an medieval town in Italy. Good luck!

Sven Lima not really when we went to Europe the 4 wheels works great on any surfaces? And they work very smooth and can turned 360 just make sure when u buy a suitcase it's good quality and the wheels can turn

Download the airline's app. You can usually get hate change updates and even track your bag. It's also useful to check in into your connecting flight if you have one.

l can attest to the connection flight squeeze..coming from London to Miami l had to land at JFK to get my connecting flight onward's..l was standing in line to check passports when l asked how long l had to get to my connecting flight..she assisted me to jump to the front of the que and through, headed out to the domestic terminal only to discover a very long line to check in there..l went straight to information who told me go to another walk through which in turn got me to miss all the shit and make my flight...it pays to ask and be polite...

Never have I ever had so much headache from an airline as I have with Delta. Also United is the most uncomfortable option. My suggestion is if you're flying to China pick Air China. If you're flying international do not choose Delta. If you're flying domestic in North America, avoid United and Delta!

Maya Wilkins I hear good things about SouthWest and Spirit! But I have never personally flown them.
@itshauteoutside8 жыл бұрын
+nihaokellar Spirit is the WORST - they charge you for every little thing (including a boarding pass!) and they have the smallest amount of cabin space. I'm 5'2" and it's already cramped for me :( Southwest is ALRIGHT besides the fact that you can't choose your seating ahead of time and just get grouped into which class boards first.
@itshauteoutside8 жыл бұрын
+Maya Wilkins I really like Virgin America if you can get a good fare or if you're willing to shell out a few more bucks compared to cheaper flights. They're extremely spacious and their planes are all pretty new, which is nice! I've flown them for both short and long haul domestic flights and each time is awesome.

going on my first flight after 5-6 years on the 22nd of May. way too excited but extremely sad too at the fact that I'm only going for four days😓 but I try to keep myself positive because at least I'm going! also, if you live in turkey can you please tell me some nice tourist attractions in Istanbul? and even if you don't live there but know a bit about the places in Istanbul, please help me out! There are lots of places! Vialand is a big amusement park in the European side of istanbul. The blue mosque is one of the most popular places to visit in istanbul which is also in the European side. Ayasofya and Topkapı sarayı are very near to the blue mosque (both are museums) hope that helped!

I loved it! I also went on the Bosphorus Cruise and it was so much fun! and the best thing is that my hotel is super super near the Bosphorus and my hotel room has an amazing view of the Bosphorus bridge and everything. thanks again! you're an amazing person!

+Batuhan Dogan in my opinion if you have the fear of planes I suggest you not to sit beside the window. Also don't sit in middle area you might feel a little cramped there. Sit beside the seat that is looks too the window and let someone else sit there. You will also be closer to the point washroom!
