@@Angarsk100 15 minutes probably not but 30-45 minutes, sure. If you've just got carry ons and checked in online to have you boarding pass the only thing you need to do is clear security. Supposing you have TSA pre you're looking at maybe 5-10 minutes through security depending on the airport. Last month I was at SFO and it took maybe 3 minutes to clear. One thing he doesn't realize though are the lounges many have access to that make showing up early worth while with their free food, showers, business centre, etc. I get this all the time I'm flying in Economy as a United elite traveller.
@Angarsk100
@Angarsk100 5 жыл бұрын
@@j2simpso I know... but you're not accounting for "unforseen events" Even a flat tire on the way to the airport can make you miss your flight. I'm really comfortable with a 1 to 2 hr. wait, to make sure I don't loose my flight, that of course is closely related to what impact would have on you to loose the flight. As for the stores, I almost never buy anything, they're so overpriced I also prepare to not need anything (and sometimes delay passing through security while I grab a nice coffee). And sometimes, I treat myself to a little snack/drink If I know I can afford it, that's the way capitalism works.

Of course if I ever decide to show up later than that it’ll be the one time that security is a nightmare and I’ll end up missing my flight.

Recently my airport built a shiny new international terminal, well when the employees got a tour they were very vocal about the lack of water fountains and other flaws designed to make people buy stuff rather than human needs. The media got wind of the displeasure and the airport was forced to retrofit water fountains, and add seating nearer to the gates instead of only in the shopping areas. It cost them a lot of money because they were greedy and thinking they could force people to wait at the shopping areas with no water. Though the new water fountains are nice and can accommodate my massive 4l bottle

A couple ways around a lot of this, that work for me: 1. Get TSA Pre and Clear (the former is free w/many credit cards, the latter is $119 a year if you have a Delta frequent flyer acct.)...I go through security in an average of 5 min. 2. Get credit cards that give you lounge access.

It’s really not that hard to avoid shopping at airports. You just need to pack the consumer state of mind. The only thing I ever get is the free water at Starbucks. Airports likewise malls are basically an opportunity to get pimped buying lackluster products at inflated prices. You don’t really need that $12 burger before your flight. You would do your gut a favor as well as your wallet.

1:58 - Then airports are stupid because nobody buys plane tickets with cash; they buy them with credit-cards. ¬_¬ 2:05 - You go through security _first_ and then through the shops? 🤨 Security should be at the _end_ of the line, just before you get on the plane. How is it secure to pass by all the stores and stuff after? 🤦 This is very sleazy. Imagine if hospitals, schools, etc. were like this. Airports should be airports, not malls. Very scummy. 😒

Something I have noticed for uk airports is most of the time the gate number isn’t announced till it is time to start walking to the gate so when you are waiting you end up sitting in the seats next to the open stores.

In 2019, I spent more time in airports than in retail clothing stores. So it makes sense. People buy stuff online but they have to go to a physical airport to get to their final destination.

The video missed a point as airports won’t display the gate information until an hour to departure to get people to shop.

Samu Sitake depends which airport. Heathrow for sure and then the only place to wait is in the shopping area where they limit seating.

Ashley W That is true. I however was in New Zealand and the Auckland airport is the same setup as Heathrow by not displaying the gate information 90 minutes to the departure.

My airport does. And they usually have fixed gate numbers, so for example Flight XX to Beijing leaves at gate 37 every day.

Revenue is 3x higher than a mall because items cost 3-6x what they do elsewhere. $5 candy bars and $6 bottles of water.... I got a 12 oz beer in an airport with no price on it once, once. It was $13.

And many airports won’t even broadcast your assigned gate until 5 minutes before boarding to force passengers to stay within the retail area of the airport. Even when they already have a gate assigned for the flight. This doesn’t happen a lot in the US but is pretty notable in airports like London.

My parents would usually get gifts from airports, more specifically perfumes, whenever going to visit family abroad. We found that airports usually have better deals than standard shopping centres so there's no real reason in not getting it while travelling rather than before.

I don't recall having made any big purchases at airports, but I suppose a fairly big part of that is that I was younger then and didn't have the kind of money they were asking for anyway. Besides, whiskey, beauty stuff and jewelry don't do it for me. Technology is more interesting, but I prefer to research before buying.

I've always associate an airport as a place where it is a hassle, TSAs basically violating your human privacy rights, and where everything is priced at 300% despite it being 'duty free'. I've learn to shut down and just go through the minimum necessary to get on my plane.

I was flying alone to darwin from bali, my mom gave me 500k (1usd = 13-14k rupiah). I said it was too much. She said that i should keep it, might become handy. She suggested me to grab something at hard rock at the lounge because she and her bf likes to visit hard rock cafes everytime they went abroad. So i did. The service was great, but when I'm about to pay... THE BILL WAS 428K. I WAS SHOOK. The vanilla milkshake was 129k. The burger and fries was 299k. That was the most expensive meal I've ever had in my entire life. Seriously, i could use that money to eat for two and a half weeks.

There have only been two times I made a purchase in an airport. The first one, my phone charger stopped working and I desperately needed one so I could get directions after landing. The second time, I had HOURS before my flight and my girlfriend at the time wanted to use that time to call me and ask why I hadn't proposed yet, so I bought a pair of earbuds so that I could talk hands free while anxiously pacing around the airport.
