While largely forgotten over the 20th century, the beginnings of passenger air travel began with airships. It was the Zeppelin airships of the German Airship Travel Corporation that would be the first to carry commercial passengers and operate from a series of specially built airports across the German Empire. In 1909, these new airliners would take center stage at Zeppelin, after years of disappointingly few sales to the military.
