@Adv4x44 жыл бұрын
Thanks Chris! Just another tip, Although possible without a bench vice it is definitely the way to do it. Esp to get the carrier bearing itself off. Something I should have mentioned in the video was to not tighten the vice excessively on the driveshaft to avoid denting or damaging it. Great video! I need to do this on my 2004 Tacoma, so I'm assuming it will be very similar. I was very intimidated by the u-joint removal/replacement part of this, but you did a great job explaining that, and I think I can tackle that now. One thing that may be an issue for me on the replacement carrier bearing (already en route to my house) is that part that sticks up on each side of the top. I have a carrier bearing drop (spacers) installed currently (to help w/ vibes after lifting the truck), and it looks like those "ledges" slide over that bracket that the bearing screws into. Thank you for taking the time to film this!
@Adv4x42 жыл бұрын
Hey no problem! With a 2004 Tacoma I don’t believe you have to even take apart the ujoint itself. I think it’s a double Cardan joint with a flange that unbolts giving you access to the large but you need to remove to slide the flange off and remove carrier bearing itself
@eljefeslash2 жыл бұрын
@@Adv4x4 yep, I just looked, and you're absolutely right! That should make it even easier. I've had some random, violent shaking under the floorboard (no specific speeds but recently happened while on the interstate), and I'm hoping this solves the problem. There isn't a ton of play in the carrier bearing, but it can't hurt to install a new one anyway.

As many of them as I’ve done like this I haven’t had any problems so I’d be willing to say you won’t have any issues! Now if you clamp the drive shaft too tight in the vice and dent it you will have vibration issues for sure. Either way works I prefer the hammer and socket method it’s fun, quick, and easy instead of messing with the press kits!
