Mentour Pilot did a video on his Mentour Now channel in which he projected the entire demise of Soviet Aviation. Besides the repossession of leased aircraft, he highlighted the impact of the spare parts ban. Since he is a pilot he was able to expand on the ripple effect of the sanctions. Airplanes require constant maintenance, and Aeroflot's main high-level maintenance facility is in Germany - they have no such equivalent in Russia. And even their own Russian-built airliners have Pratt & Whitney engines, which means that even those planes will soon suffer from the inability to replace key components in those engines. And, failure to maintain aircraft at regular intervals can result in de-certification from international agencies which would then prohibit those airplanes from flying international routes.

I have not checked, but with the fall of soviet unions, many Easterm-USA to Asia flights became possible due to the ability to fly over Russia (in particular NYC-Singapore). I have to assume these routes are no longer possible and curious to see how airlines such as Cathay, Singapore, United etc are coping with loss of that important polar route over Russia.
@TXnine7nine
@TXnine7nine 2 жыл бұрын
Cathay and Singapore Air wouldn’t be effected since their respective countries haven’t instituted Russian aircraft bans. If you look on FlightRadar24 nowadays it’s far more than just Russian aircraft over Russia. You just won’t see any aircraft from USA, Canadian, EU or other countries that have banned Russian planes.

@@lemonflavorclorox7389 Not to forget Japanese airlines either, this is actually why it is still possible to book LHR-HND via British Airways. Cathay and Singapore took Neutral stance on this war. They would still be allowed to fly through Russia. Most European Airlines would just copy Emirates flight paths instead, going down to Middle East before flying east to Japan, South Korea, China and Taiwan or southeast to Singapore, Thailand, etc. The flight time would be similar to Emirates flights minus the stopover time.

They canceled flights to Russia and closed their airspace to Russian flights. Russia closed its airspace to all. The flights that turned back was due to this. The odd thing is that most of these companies use Russian airspace to conduct travel through Asia. Some of these European companies are down 20% already and flight times and prices are only going to go up. It seems odd but Russia is a big big piece of land and going around is a long long flight

They can't use Canadian or US airspace. Along with the the EU ban, that prevents their use of almost the entire northern hemisphere besides their own airspace. EU nations and Canada control the Oceanic airspace in the North Atlantic. The US controls most of the airspace in the north Pacific. In order to get to Mexico, while avoiding current airspace bans, they'd have to route south over the middle east and Africa, dip south of the equator to cross the Atlantic, then fly over Brazil.

They won’t pay a fine because there are force majeure clauses in the contract that cover this. The leasing companies are contractually allowed to terminate the contracts. There is no violation of international law because of these standard clauses.
