Danger! What happens when the PDN satellite system goes down? Single point of failure? Who owns or charges for the service provided by the PDN satellite system? As a monopoly, what keeps them from increasing the rates?
@IceCanBeFrozen2 ай бұрын
I figured it out! Go to your IFR chart and look at the green letters for an airport. At the top it will say MON if it has a vor that's part of the network. Use KGRB as an example.
@Hoops49152 ай бұрын
There is a MON program in place to backup throughout the continental United States. Google vor mon program for more info.

Seems like a real backup risk. I know it’s expensive but…
@jeffreywonser32412 ай бұрын
@bradbel , agree, but they don't ask me. This is the next step in "fix on fail". What happens if the satellites need to be degraded? Not as many backups. But, we'll just "make it work" if something happens. That's what they're counting on.
@blazerbarrel22 ай бұрын
You need a back up from failure .
@jeffreywonser32412 ай бұрын
@@blazerbarrel2 You'd think. That costs money the FAA is unwilling to spend. Sadly, it's cheaper to wait for something to happen and pay off whatever lawsuit for loss of life vs. paying to provide a backup to failure.
Many Thanks for all the pilots and controllers who keep the flying public safe!!!!

I live within 1 mile from the end of the main runways. I've never been reached out to or given mailed to for any commentary of any kind including noise. There is a lot of propaganda in this video. That said the vor going away and changing to GPS has been planned for many years.

Already happening. GPS jamming is becoming a big problem at airports and just in general. I have had gps failure so many times while flying.

People who decide to live near busy airports namely Class B airspaces sort of deserve what they get. No one forces you to live there. Planes have engines that are loud. Life is full of choices and consequences. If you want total peace and quiet then move out of the Metro.

The bottom line is...we want more take-offs & landings per hour. And WE (the government) don't give a rats who is "inconvenienced" by this. We have the lobbyists. YOU (the taxpayer) DON'T.
@JamesFiloteo-uo6sp2 ай бұрын
Demand for more landing slots actually comes from the airlines (which is generally, but not always. driven by the passengers). FAA/Airports are the supply side. Generally fewer landing slots increases airfares (less supply to service a given demand). It's an interesting area of economics b/c noise is an externality. The number of TO/LDGs could be decreased but the fares would go up. Or they could be spread out to more airports (possibly requiring expansion of those airports, taking up more land), which would spread the noise around - but people not currently exposed to the noise would now be getting it. Concentrating noise in one area leaves other areas quieter. Everything is a tradeoff.

FAA, please use more professional audio. This sounds echoey and like something that Elon Musk and Don Trump would do. Do better!

But then Musk and Trump and their minions will complain that the FAA is wasting taxpayers' money. Then they will argue we need to get rid of the FAA and let airlines run everything themselves.

What the hell is going on? Since 5am, so 16 hours and counting, a plane has landed from the NW, over the most densely populated area of Mpls, every 90sec to 3minutes. ALL DAY… This is unfair. It’s not right. It makes living here miserable. It’s decreasing home values. Linden Hills used to be coveted. This is not fair- I pray some fairness is brought forward to everyone living near MSP can share the pain, not just a small geo area that is completely disproportionate!

Not sure if you already know this, but since the beginning of summer MSP closed 12L/30R 4/22. MSP had to adjust making arrivals and departures only for two runways: 12R/30L and 17/35. Depending on the winds this can make it very congested for arrivals and departures.
@Blue378012 ай бұрын
@@mnaviator3759 thank you. I hope things resolve, both runways face the same directions. Planes used to arrive from the south but that runway apparently closed.
@wingsleveladventures2 ай бұрын
@@Blue37801 yes because of ongoing maintenence and resurfacing projects. Also flows depend on the wind and tracon needs so aircraft will not always arrive and depart on the same sids and stars
