We’re on our second Airstream ( a 2016 27’ Pendleton). And course we love it. What we like best about Airstream is the way they hold their value. Another great feature is how aerodynamic they are. Unfortunately, this can lead people Into a false sense of security and they end up towing above their vehicle’s capacity. The greatest disadvantages we have found so far is the lack of storage (you need to be a very good organizer), and curious campers wanting to look inside the Airstream. Ours is a bit unique since Airstream only built 100 of them so we don’t really mind the “curious campers”.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts from an owner's perspective. I can understand all of the points you make and I have to admit I would be that person peeking and wanting to see inside. I just can't help myself. Tell us more about why they only made 100 of your model?

@@DoesSizeMatter 2016 was the 100 year anniversary of our National Park system, so Airstream created a National Parks anniversary model (The 2016 Pendleton). Airstream and the National Parks teamed up and came up with the idea and design for a very specific model. They made 100 units to celebrate 100 years. The Pendleton is similar (in layout) to the Tommy Bahama model. However our interior looks like a cabin. The interior walls are mostly aluminum, but we have several walls that have wallpaper which is a topographical map of Yellowstone National Park (since Yellowstone was the first National Park). Each Airstream has a number badge 1 to 100. If you “google” 2016 Pendleton you can see some pictures and read more about the teamwork between Airstream and the National Park System.

The only floor plan issue I find with airstreams is tv viewing angle with exception to the classic. Other than that, very high quality, there is lacked storage but....it can be done. Bins in the bed of a covered truck bed works great.
@DoesSizeMatter
@DoesSizeMatter 4 жыл бұрын
The small ones usually have dinette seating only so the TVs are placed for that but may not be great for every seating spot, but the bed areas often have their own tv. Storage is always less on an airstream but most folks manage with the truck or van storage and having a cover would be must for us in that situation. Thanks for watching.

Very good presentation on the Airstream trailers. If only they made them in a 5th wheel, then I might consider it.

Even the 30 footers are super lightweight so they just don't need a 5th wheel setup. An HD truck is not even required, although if you're pulling with an HD truck it's not going to even feel the Airstream. These are not 15,000-18,000lb 5th wheel monsters.

@@alliejr You are right about this. I know the floor plan is different then a 5th wheel but they still seem so roomy to me.

I looked at new airstream's and the price was more than I was willing to pay. I can buy a nice rv for that price, and I don't need a two vehicle on top of the camper price.

An Airstream is a pricy rig to get so I hear you. Are you thinking of getting a truck camper?

@@DoesSizeMatter oh no. I am a widower and have five kids. A truck camper is way to small. I am working on my 86 airstream, or will be when the weather breaks for sure. And I might look at a good used class a coach.

Oh sorry, I misunderstood when you said you don't need 2 vehicles on top of camper price. Doing a reno is a big job but I bet you will do wonderful things. We love airstream renos. Have you seen our other video of an Airstream Reno with trailer trashin? kzbin.info/www/bejne/d5_bm6iXiN2IgsU There is for sure lots of good reasons to go with a Class A but it is a question that you will go back and forth on for awhile. If we can help in any way let us know.

You are wrong when you say the outside skin "is attached to aluminum ribs". There are no separate ribs in any Airstream. The skin is NOT attached to a "cage" of aluminum tubing. The "ribs" are part of the skin and are merely folds at the edges so it can be riveted to the folds on the edge of the next piece of exterior skin. I will grant you this creates somewhat of a rib. Simply watch a KZbin video of an Airstream factory tour and you can see the process for yourself. Did you do that before posting this video? While people generally think hand built is a sign of quality, the most significant problem with that process (among many others) is when production is scaled up (like the current market demand), quality goes down because as the speed of manufacture increases, the variability in all those manual processes increase.
@DoesSizeMatter
@DoesSizeMatter 3 жыл бұрын
We are sorry to have to disagree with you but all of our research has shown that yes indeed the aluminum skin is attached to aluminum ribs. There are indeed separate ribs that sort of do make a cage. Yes we have watched Airstream factory videos so we have seen the process and it is clear and we are not wrong. It is true that there are pros and cons to hand built anything as almost all RVs are to a certain degree, all be it some use robotic machinery to precision cut their pieces but generally not to put them together. We agree that quality does go down when folks are in a rush and steps can get missed or not done well and again this can come from any manufacturer. We hope this helps to clear up any misconceptions you may have. Thanks for watching.

Pricey? Absolutely! But when you do the math, the statistic average someone keeps a travel trailer is anywhere between 6 months and 5 years. You buy an airstream it’s almost a lifelong purchase / resale value is ridiculously awesome. NADA depreciation on them is the same percentage. But...... 2000 year models are still selling for 90k. So IMO, the additional cost up front actually saves money over the long hall. And a 20 year loan would be roughly somewhere in the 500’s a month with 20‰ down. Average travel trailer is roughly 200-300 a month with nothing down over 10-15 years and most people trade in and go upside down over and over and over.
