Airstream Van or Thor Tellaro 20A? (Did we make a mistake?)

VAN LIFE VLOG: Ep:61 → We have been waiting for so long for our Arizona Airstream Dealership to get the Rangeline Van in stock...we are hoping to compare it to our Thor Tellaro that we bought this past spring. It's Christmas Break...we are bored so we decided to drop by and see if they have it in stock. Fingers Crossed!

WHO ARE WE?
We are Bob and Hillary, from Chandler, AZ. We have raised our kids (they are in college) bought the house, worked the 9-5, and now we are in our 40s finding out that what we really want is time and freedom more than anything! So we bought a van (1st step) and for now take epic road trips. Eventually though we could see ourselves doing this full time. At this point we have bought a Thor Rize 18T and quickly found out that it was to small for us (we are both over 6 feet tall) and so we traded it in for our current van a Thor Tellaro 20A. This van while brand new has given us lots of headaches...Who knew buying a brand new van would lead to having to fix everything!? This has us thinking that eventually we want to build out a van...more to come later on that 😉
What is our WHY? Why do we want to share it with you? The biggest reason is we have had some hard times and lost very dear people in our life which has caused us to want to make the most out of every moment we are given! Our goal is to inspire everyone to chase their dreams no matter their age and season of life, to help people see the behind the scenes of a couple doing that very thing! And if we can help you achieve your very own home on wheels that's icing on the cake!

The van is much more ‘nimble’ meaning you can pick up and go whenever you want. No hooking up to the car, no weight distribution hitch, generator on board, easier to fit into those tight spaces like national and state parks. Cons to the fan - less storage, less interior apace and possibly cost depending on what you want to use as a tow vehicle.

Hi guys. Another cool look at more RVs. I am partial to the Ford transit chassis RVs. They have regula chassis and some RVs have a slide-out for the same reason Bob doesn't like the power bed. I'd get the regular chassis one. The Ford RVs have AWD, which like the Sprinter chassis, gives you more off-road and bad weather traction. They also have way more power getting up hills with better torque numbers and the Ecoboost engine gets great gas mileage compared to promaster from seeing other Ford RVs on some other channels. The power bed would be less a worry, to me, because it is just a motor inside that you could easily get to if needed to, and if you wanted the bed always made, just flatten it out and keep it that way. Win, win with the option to just trust the mechanism would work just fine if you wanted to use that feature to power it upright from time to time.

I agree about the sinks inside the wetbath, absolutely unnecessary. The only airstream I like is the Nest, don’t understand why the stopped making them. With all the things you’ve had go wrong with your van, it’s funny that you worry about a power bed failing 😂

I believe in the past you said that your HOA does not allow motorhomes to be parked in the driveway, but eventually I see you in a Class C. Fixed bed, fixed dinette and a dry bath. We went from a Class A diesel to a Class B Sprinter van and ended up with the Class C Spinter chassis with a box. Great compromise!

You are correct-no motorhomes allowed. We’d have to move if we were to get a class C. Or just travel full time 😉A class C Sprinter Chassis does sound awesome!

Hi Bob and Hillary🤗 Boy ..those are pretty nice.. airstreams... we haven't seen a Rangeline yet ? That will be nice to 👀 .. I do like B vans better then having to pull the trailer.. I agree with Bob.. then you have to buy a truck of some kind to be able to pull it ..and that's more money .. Not for us.. we will stick with our B van it works for our needs ... You should check out panoramic rv which is the best van based on promaster van. They have 5 years of warranty. But no dealers in US yet. Neil’s videos show how good their build quality is. Much Much nicer than rangeline.

Like you two, we've had multiple issues w/ Thor and although I can't afford to trade out, I do feel quality components & build are MOST important. I will choose a reputable custom builder over the mass builders next time. Companies like Nomadik Customs have tremendous reputations and provide peace of mind to enjoy trips into the wilds instead of repair shops.

@taurusview9 Honestly, consider checking a few custom builders. Even a used 3500 with a solid build would be worth some thought IMO. This is an interesting builder below. Happy New Year guys! I looked at Rangeline, the bed set up in the back and the way it folds out of the way made it a no/go for me. I wish they had designed it as a single piece fold up. After going back and forth with the salesman, even he agreed that was a poor design. Would love to know what you guys think about that. Thanks for the video.

Have had 9 different styles of rvs In 30 yrs never a quality issue got a new B jayco swift 2022 quality is also poor I think it’s just the times 😢

Hmmm..something happened to my post. I second Panoramic RV (Canada)for sure. The only drawback is the wait time..2 years..but they just opened a place in So Cal…so it may get shorter. Check out Ultramobility On you tube..Neil is the man. He JUST his a week ago and if HE bought one you know they are solid. Sorry But Thor is lacking in quality..but I don’t have to tell you that! Ridgeline is preordered…it’s their first year so I certainly wouldn’t get one. Let them get the bugs out! They tried and failed to copy the fiberglass trailer with their NEST. Airstream used to be quality..no longer and your paying for the name. Buy the best available..instead of settling for cheaply made crap. Sorry if this is offensive but I’m trying to help you out. If you want a trailer..go Escape Trailer Industries..also in Canada. Older models you can find..you won’t be disappointed. Both will import them for you…hassle free.
