I am a lifelong NYer, and I laughed so hard at this video. Especially when Bob ran the redlight. Everyone runs lights here. Lights are merely suggestions on how to proceed. I found it hilarious when you were driving through the Bronx. Y'all were just a few blocks from my house. lol

I’ve driven in Manhattan a handful of times. Every day is “make your own lane day.” A local told me that lanes were mostly just a suggestion. Once I adopted that mindset, some of the stress of driving in NYC went away. (Not all, just some.)

That was fun to watch! Even though we've been RVing for 35 years, we haven't had an RV in NYC. We did take our cruising boat through there, and spent a week at Liberty Landing, across the Hudson River, in New Jersey (they had an RV park there, as well). We took a water taxi each day to Manhattan, took in a Broadway show, ate a bunch of New York pizza, toured around Times Square, walked through Central Park, went to Rockefeller Plaza and watched them doing the Today Show, Took a tour of the NBC facilities, ate in delis, took the subway to get around, caught a taxi a few times, and walked a LOT. Toured the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island. From there, it was up the Hudson River and on to the Erie Canal. We had a spectacular view of the NYC skyline (photo from our boat) each night. We were from south Texas at the time, so it was quite a bit of culture shock experiencing life in "the big city." Watching your video brought all that back. (Big Smiles). Thanks! (Captain Jim & the Blonde)

Ny is my home (you will notice i always have a NY yankee hat on) . you just have to cut into the spot. They would rather you slide in quick the wait for you. Glad you got to enjoy it. You may get a piece of mail if there are cameras. Totally normal to drive wherever. It’s pretty anxiety driven to drive in NYC. You did good. Doesnt look like your in the city. Looks more like the boroughs oh you said queens. i was born in queens.yeah totally fine to just go back through lanes haha . Ok now your going to manhattan I see. Wow tight space. Ny is like that. And that is why we live in charleston sc!

All the BEST and WELL DONE indeed ! Cheers : )

Lmao I’ve been giggling for twenty minutes. Sorry, native NYr here, born and raised and watching people’s reactions as they first enter “the city” is always fun. Driving here can be such a shit show lol. A few things… you were technically in NYC the minute you entered Staten Island. It’s one of the 5 boroughs tho we don’t claim it much lol. 2) we don’t call manhattan downtown. It’s just “the city”. Even though NYC is Brooklyn, Queens, The Bronx, Staten Island and Manhattan, when you say the city, everyone knows you meet manhattan. 3) that route was crazy! I get why you took it, but with your van it wasn’t necessary lol. That route took you all the way round jacks barn ( as my granny would say). You ended up in Queens ( my neck of the woods) when you probably could have taken the Manhattan bridge into Brooklyn, then to Atlantic Ave, then off to the RV park. Your van is still a van and you would have been fine anywhere a large SUV can travel. I will say you guys kept it classy the entire time! Traffic here is thee worst but you two are troopers. So many one ways! So many new traffic patterns! You had your National Lampoons Big Ben moment and I was rooting for you!! Next time visit Long Island! Way more open roads. More RV parks and you can take the Long Island Rail Road into the city and catch a show.

I took my clase into New York during Christmas. It was stressful, but it was fantastic. I stayed right in Staten Island and took a ferry over to Manhattan. Same kind of a parking space that you have just a piece of concrete and an electrical hook up but I only paid like $52. Glad you’re having a good time.
@kenmcclow89635 сағат бұрын
I used to live in Connecticut and while you can drive in New York, we would generally take the train to save time and money on parking. I also have lived in Chicago and Seattle and they both have fierce traffic and luckily my commute has always been out of the main gridlock times. I took my truck and trailer into a neighborhood gas station in a city with some close confines once, which is why I have a class c that is 20 feet long.

I live about three hours north west of NYC in the Catskills… so, I’ve had to drive to NYC more times than I care for … mostly to catch the flights out of JFK. The traffic is horrific and you represented it very well. The intensity on his face is what I’m usually doing as well . We’ve had to park our car in caged lots in some of the worst neighborhoods to avoid paying the fees for parking at JFK. It’s actually pretty safe but gosh it doesn’t feel that way when you get there. It’s very stressful and you guys pulled it off like NYC pros. Having a great navigator is always helpful… my daughter is mine and she knows when to leave me to it and when to lighten the mood a bit for me to let that pressure off a bit. I was worried the photos were not going to be accurate but was glad to see you just got out there and walked around!!! It really is the big apple!!

I am a Class A owner. I live 50 miles west of Times Square. I would not even think of taking my RV to NYC! You get an A for bravery. There is a campground on the NJ with views of the statute of liberty in Jersey City. I think it probably is easier to get to by RV. An RV park is located in my town right off of I 80 but it is 50 miles out so you would need a car rental. One truck GPS would be easier.

Used to live in New Jersey and drove into NYC twice for the Broadway Shows and Times Square. Later took the trains into NYC and that's when it was 100% safer than it is today. You guys are taking years off your lives from the stress of driving through New York City. We did this 40 years ago, in a regular car, with our kids, just to go to the Empire State Building and the Statue of Liberty, on our way to visit relatives in upstate New York. It was a nightmare even then. No internet, no cell phones, totally paper map. We saw the things we especially wanted to see, got lost many times, and found ourselves in some pretty sketchy areas, and I personally aged 10 years at least. Never had the desire to go back. Feel the same way about the Los Angeles area where they go very fast. At least in NYC the traffic slows everyone down😮

Bob looked like he had seen a ghost when he ran that red light. Hey, it happens. Fortunately, nothing was coming like you said. People are used to changing lanes like that there, fortunately I've always been in a cab, or Uber. Been to NYC lots of times. Greatest city in the world to me. Always stayed a few blocks off of Times Square. Have walked it from the Trade Center to Central Park. Candied Peanuts from the street carts are GOOD. The Soup Nazi (Seinfeld) place was good too. I think there are 2 of them there. Looked like a really nice safe place to park and very reasonable.
