A test run of an AirTemp branded, Fedders manufactured, 7,600 BTU casement window air conditioner model CIV08S2AC. The unit utilizes a General Electric rotary compressor and R-22 refrigerant. It is in good working order and is ready to install.

Incredible large for such a small amount of BTUs. If you just enjoy seeing old things run and last carry on. Otherwise I'd be installing a Midea.

All units of this form factor are about the same size, the size has been fairly standard for decades now. A new one may weigh less, but is unlikely to be more than an inch or two shorter. Any unit installed today is likely be uninstalled due to failure within 5-10 seasons, if even that much. This will cool for decades. I'll take large, heavy, and reliable over replacing the unit every few years.

I get your point, but here's another perspective. Older units might look large for their BTU output, but they were built to last and can run reliably for many years. If you value that durability and the charm of older models, they’re worth keeping.

It's also worth noting that a larger form factor has benefits -- larger, thicker coils results in higher efficiency operation.

@@JordanU You're so incorrect on all your assumptions. Inverter technology achieves more than 35% energy savings** compared to traditional AC units. A 8K BTU is more than one half this size. Google could be your friend to validate. Carry on.
