Redefining Tikkun Olam

The more I think about it, I can see the jump to acting in ways to improve the world, as the word tikkun is all about repairing or fixing.What still bothers me is the disregard for the commandments and turning Judaism into a new religion, all about being a liberal activist even when it contradicts Jewish tradition.

A tikkun is also a book to prepare you to read from the Torah scroll.

Tikkun is used alot in mystical Judaism. It can be a kabbalistic practice to remedy some spiritual deficiency. It can also be selected verses, often from the Psalms.

So many converts and young people see the essence of Judaism as tikkun okam. Many reform converts state they converted to Judaism because of tikkun okam. This so surprised me when I first heard it as I knew it from Alenu. I am glad your video explained it.

@@cohenlabe1 Great question. Obama is a charlatan, a con artist and someone who talks like he's for jews but has done much against our people. Fed terrorists capital to rain havoc. If it said Hitler loves tikun olam, I'm sure you would agree its not appropriate. If you are going to use someone, use some that actually does tikun olam . Obama hurt his own race worse than any other president after slavery was abolished and is definitely not a good example of tikum olam or someone who cares about jews. I also have no idea how student debt forgiveness has anything to do with tikun olam. I found this to be very NON aish hatorah style and for sure a detterent for me .

Economic equality and social justice are indeed great endeavors. Try practicing these with the Palestinians before preaching to the west.

This is actually quite poor overall and completely ignores the development of Tikkun Olam within eastern Europe during the 18th, 19th and early 20th centuries and its link to "social justice" and helping the poor.
