A messiah is usually understood to be a human agent sent by God to save or redeem people. While Christians expect Jesus’ Second Coming, the Jews too expect a messiah. Various contenders for this position have appeared over the millennia. Among the most famous was Shabbatai Zevi, whose influence was felt by Jews across the Ottoman Empire in 1665-1666. This lecture explores the historical and religious context that made Shabbatai such a believable Jewish messianic figure.

The true Messiah Yeshua (Jesus Christ) might have prophesied about Zevi when he told the jewish religious leaders that they rejected Him(Yeshua) who came in His Father's name but they (the jews) would except false messiahs who come in their own names. He also mentioned one who would be especially evil, the man of sin or son of perdition. Zevi's disciple Jacob Frank was incredibly evil. It is also incredible that so many jews believed in that demonic figure (Frank).

The whore must very exposed and the antichrist must be revealed. The antichrist is the pope. He will affirm a covenant with us then betray us and slaughter us. It is foretold.

Shabbatai Zeti's branch of Judaism has as it's core doctrine a principal called Antinomianism. It's a word that makes an easy sidestep of the ugly reality of its content. It literally means "to go against the law". Another way to describe the doctrine is to call it "Salvation through Transgression". The irrational magic that is called upon, attempts to get at the "spark of real truth found in committing sin, defying the law of God". It's a type of black magic derived from the "mystical" (read black magic, spells, power over people and things by incantations, and so on). Jacob Frank is Shabbatai Zeti's direct successor. Frank embraced antinomianism as his central tenet of dogma. To capture this "spark of truth" found only in sin, the Franks would engage in continuous great sin, the more sinful and more often the better. Fraud, lies, broken promises, treason, deceit of all kind, stealing, adultery, fornication, defiance of all Jewish dietary laws and all the restrictions imposed not only by the Mosaic laws of the 10 Commandments but also Deuteronomy. The Salvation Through Transgression is seen as empowering and elevating to the Jew who practiced it. What, being closer to God? Yes. Long winding story. The worship service for this branch of Judaism did not entail going to the synagogue but might rather be attending a wife swapping orgy at a fellow followers home? You tell me. You would think that this branch of Judaism has died away but many Jews brought it with them when they immigrated from the Frankist seed-bed located in Romania, Ukraine, Turkey, etc., As Prof. Gildish says, Justice Louis Brandeis, the first Jewish Supreme Court Justice came from a long line of Frankist followers. Justice Brandeis had a framed picture of Eva Frank on his office desk. She being the daughter of Jacob Frank who was seen as the first female messiah. It is said that she stayed above the fray on the orgy part, but would let's say " ring the dinner bell to mark its commencement then perhaps leave the rooms. Is it any wonder why Brandeis championed the first Personal Privacy Act? Imagine how he felt growing up either witnessing or hearing in secret tones, what the worship services might consist of on a given day of night. He'd be very interested in a Personal Privacy Act indeed. What is apparent is how tragic all this truly is. Saying it's similar to Evangelical Christians speaking in tongues and prophesying is misses the point. These odd Christian sects don't ever advocate Salvation Through Transgression. It's a HUGE DIFFERENCE in substance. They assimilate their odd activity into orthodoxy of their sects moral belief. Whereas the antinomians turn the Orthodoxy of Judaism (does any sense of orthodoxy even exist in Judaism?) on its head. Some people use the word 'inversion' for this reversal of the moral code. Puzzling and fascinating, but in the end only moral degradation , confusion, and chaos are the from this branch of Judaism. Maybe the Shabbateans were the catalyst that gave rise to what is called anti-semitism. I can't blame anyone, who if were aware of the cult's beliefs, and had any social interactions with them at the time, wouldn't be very careful around them. Many questions asked at the end of the the talk and the professors answers appear to me to show an understanding by himself and some in the audience, that maybe Jesus of Nazareth and His Catholic Church is the Jewish Messiah. I encourage and pray that they come to see this truth.

They say that it was incorporated, somewhat, in the Unitarian belief, and way before this, within the Cathars. Supposedly, it was an offshoot of the Carpocratian Gnostics. Evidently, this heterodox heresy was within both Judaism and Christianity early on, but kept hidden, where it reemerged with Huss, Zevi, and Frank. They were special radical sect, part of the Husite revolt. Anyone who knows the story (and lasting impact) of Sabbatai Zevi knows that at about 34:30 this guy leaves out the absolute gist of this story. I mean, its insane. It's the equivilant of saying, "there was this short bearded guy in southern california in 1969 who was mean to an actress." Perhaps the jews are right about Jesus not being the messiah. It's that concept that devides people. To Christians, what did John the Baptist say about Jesus? He said behold the Lamb of God who comes to take away the sins of the world. John didn't say behold here comes the messiah. John called Jesus the Lamb of God. To the jews, the messiah is one thing but your entire temple system of sacrifices points to the coming of the true Lamb of God. And to Christians, if you don't fully know and understand everything about the temple and it's rituals, all the furniture inside and outside the temple of the jews, then you too can't understand who Jesus was. Start with the words of the Baptist, then go and study about the Jewish temple until you know everything about it. Then Jesus will make much more sense to you. To the jews, I agree that perhaps Jesus wasn't the messiah, but your entire temple system points toward the true Lamb of God that was to come. The temple was the living daily prophecy. Both sides, perhaps let's get off of this messiah or not messiah issue, and focus on the Lamb of God. The entire meaning, and symbolism of everything about the temple pointed forward to the true sacrifice of the true Lamb. Christians, perhaps the jews are right about the messiah. But think about this both jews and Christians. Is it possible that the Lamb came and fulfilled the temple, and that perhaps the Lamb will return again this time in the role of the messiah? We all might not be as far apart on this issue as it appears. Christians, Jesus said He didn't come to abolish the laws but to fulfill the laws. The temple ceremonial laws only. Not any other laws. Jews, is it possible that both sides may be a little mistaken? And Christians like to say that the jews killed Jesus. The high priest of the temple did actually give that order to have Jesus killed, but here's the thing. On the day of atonement, it was the job of the high priest to take sacrifice the perfect Lamb and take that blood into the most holy place and sprinkle it onto the mercy seat of the alter. I'm simplifying this, but that's the basic idea. Only the high priest could enter the most holy place in the temple, and only on one day of the year. The high priest in the time of Jesus did order the death of Jesus and in fact by doing that he fulfilled his duty as high priest. God in his mercy upon the high priest didn't allow him to know that Jesus was the true Lamb of God, because can you imagine that poor man trying to sacrifice the true Lamb of God if he realized who Jesus was? He probably could not have done it, but knowing or not knowing, it was his duty to sacrifice the Lamb. Christians, the Jewish high priest fulfilled his temple day of atonement duty. Thank God for him he didn't realize who Jesus was. And thank God for his mercy upon this man by hiding this from him.
