I love that you can actually tell that there's a signficant improvement to her grammar skills as the story progresses. If you compare both her initial post and her latest post, the difference is almost night and day.

Post divorce, she probably didn't even notice how much better she got once she was single and working full time. Living alone basically forces you to become more proficient as well as working everyday. She's gotta be close to if not already fluent at this point.

ETA You took a looong time to take any action, so you do have some fault in that. At least you got on top of it, though. He is a prick and I'm not surprised you got a divorce. It's not about the language: the lack of support, the insecurity, the insults... He was an AH too and good riddance.

Plenty of people don't, and it doesn't matter as long as they can communicate. And her japanese was good enough, her husband was gaslighting her by saying it's bad

dude didn't listen to the stroy whatsoever. She was conversational and her husband was a prick who called her stupid in front of her family for making a small grammatical mistake. She also speaks 4 languages, well 5 now

@ Dude never learnt to read. That was the first part of my comment. You need to learn a language whilst being in another country.
