Like you, we were asked by Aivituvin to assemble, use, and review a coop and we also chose the AIR27. We start filming on Friday. We have over 400 chickens and we an educational homestead teaching others about homesteading. We build our own coops, but not everyone has the time, skills, or equipment to build their own. We have a similar coop that someone gave us and we use it for broody hens & chicks. Surprisingly, it has held up very well. There's some trim that's falling apart, but it's done its job to keep predators out and chickens safe. I'm not sure if it's Aivituvin, but they all have the same paint color, huh? We never treated the wood and it still looks great after 3 years. The AIR27 looks more sturdy than the one we have so I'm hoping for good things. We will be using this one for broody hens also. We get strong winds here that will blow open that top lid so we will definitely have to add a latch or the lid will end up in the next county! Thanks for the video so we know what to look forward to!

So how is the coop holding up a years later. I am getting a bantam and 2 exchequer leghorns in July I plan to put them outside as soon as they can since it will be summer but they will be too small to go in with the big girls, so I am going to look at these coop using your link of course. I noticed the boxes were pretty heavy which is good , would you say these are pretty sturdy , even though I have the main coop this would need to withstand colder temps. I seen the warping and would probably use silicone caulking or something. Question do you think they would still scratch around if there was a wire floor? Thanks again Sara! they still scratch if you put a wire floor on the run?

Hi! I would assume that yes they’ll still try to scratch around a wire floor (and I was always terrified of them twisting/breaking a toe so I never did that strategy personally). There is a bit of warping on the smaller/thinner pieces, all doors open and close fine but the sliding window can get stuck. Honestly I left it closed for a while as it’s just my backup, so I should have been maneuvering it more regularly. Otherwise the only other issue is that plastic sheeting that covers the “run” side (on the door that can fold up and over)… turns out if you have a big fat chicken jump up on it, it can eventually pop that plastic out! So I have to take off a piece of the wood frame to pop it back in (and seal it in with glue this time too!). Overall it is a nice little coop and should be fine for years if you seal it annually. ✌🏻❤️🐓

@@realsimplemama sound good! Your video came on auto play just as I was just telling family I am buying another coop for the new chicks. I order more chicks too soon, I just got the teenagers out of my house! Like a dummie I got them in the winter they were big enough and it was still cold out. Haha on me . The sealant is always good idea on wood, I am painting a new coop at this moment and it was a bad idea, especially when you get the idea to paint trim and inside two different colors. I was coming out of a boring winter, if I had got clear sealant I would be done by now 😤 Thank you for the details! Have a good day. 😆🤣💛twisted chickens toes!

I always wondered about these coops. Are you going to use it at all?

Hey! So the honest plan is to carry it into the run tomorrow (we had another surprise storm tonight) and use it as a quarantine/bully pen for now. For my purposes, I wouldn't replace it with my big one because I have seven girls, but it's designed well and a good second space. I may have to take the "run" off long term, we'll see how it fits. I have two girls with a bumblefoot so I could keep them put up and make it easier to grab at them, and one of those two is also being a little jerk so she may get an all-expenses-paid trip! :) We shall see.

@@realsimplemama We bought one from tractor supply, opened the box and took it back. With WI winters I couldn’t see it holding up. The wood was so thin. I found a homemade one on marketplace and we built a run onto it. Now we have a pen around it like yours. I just love your set up!!

What is that trap that your using for above your coop?
@realsimplemama
@realsimplemama 3 жыл бұрын
The tarp? It is 95% shade (so it allows a bit of sun and rain but blocks most of it) and helps keep the coop cooler!

When I first got into chickens about a year ago, I fell for an online coop that the company claimed to be built in the USA by the Amish community using fir wood, etc, etc. I gave $300 for that pile of junk. The first thing I saw when the two boxes arrived was, Made in China. It was awful. I had personally spoken to the “owner “ of the company before I placed my order. He assured me that the coop would comfortably serve up to six birds. That thing would not hold one bird never mind six. Parts were missing, plus it looked nothing like the online picture. Needless to say, I sent the thing back at my own expense. Lesson learned. I built my own coop after much research, at a cost of approx $1500. My girls thank me every day!!

Oh no! I was able to haul mine around a bit by myself. My problem is what to do with the chicken while you do it 😄🤦🏻‍♀️ even if she’s locked up inside I feel bad her flopping around!

Yeah, it's a Cheap coop kit, "Made in China", no need to say more... BUT, the hacks will make it better, sealant, new hardware, and moving roost bars and the like, can't wait to see it in action after you's modify it... Good Luck...

I’m happy to teach others about it especially if they’re just getting started with chickens, or have restrictions and can only have 1-2. The design and construction aren’t bad for the money, remember that you’re paying for convenience.

Directions never came with the shipment. It is very confusing assembling this without any guidance. Incorrect screws used, parts attached backwards, looks like trash.
