Awesome build, quick question. On the side where the two vents are do you think modifying the bottom to have a panel open up to allow for clean out would be feasible? Or do the plans already have that built in?

Great tutorial! Love the simple design you made it look so easy to build! One suggestion I always make is to use natural wood sticks as roosts of various girths so your chickens don’t get arthritis. Makes it just a little bit more comfortable for them.
@WeekendRenegades Жыл бұрын
Thanks! And yeah I've heard a lot of different things around that particular debate with roosts. But from what I've read 2x4s with the 1 1/2" side up make for perfect roosting bars as long as you get rid of the sharp corners. I'll look into the arthritis thing though, I haven't heard of that.

We elected to build our Chicken House 24” off the Ground…the whole House & 10’x 24’ Run are 1/2” Hardware Clothed Completely Under & Up All Sides of Run so it is very Secure. My only Issue (didn’t see this coming) is my Girls occasionally Lay Eggs under the House…I can’t Crawl under it, so I won’t do that again. House is 8’x 8’ Floor but 12’ West Wall & 5’ East wall so we have a decent Pitch on roof…we have lotsa Rain here, so went with Green Metal to match our Home & Garage. You did a Superstar Job on your House!! Wonderful Video too!!!

@Lifeinvillagess3 ай бұрын

@BigDawgTheGreat2 жыл бұрын
I literally just finished this exact chicken coop... The biggest departure in how I went about it was that I used more whole sheets of t1-11 siding and then used a flush cut router to get my doors and windows cut. I also decided to use PVC trim... So I only had to prime and paint the building and the trim was already white and ready to go. I still gotta caulk some screw holes but am done. I also am insulating mine as I'm in South Dakota where it gets both toasty and downright cold. My only dislike of this coop design is that the nesting box lid still manages to get water under it... At least with wind driven rain.
@WeekendRenegades2 жыл бұрын
Good notes overall. PVC trim was a good call. I may still insulate mine as well at some point. Something else I would've done different as well was buy thicker t1-11. The siding I bought was thinner and saved me money but the thicker one probably would have been better. Thanks for watching!

One small idea for the floor so it will be self cleaning I got from "Just a few acres farm" channel, space the floor boards about 1 1/2 in apart. The chickens scratching will make it clean itself. There are few chores worse than cleaning the henhouse, for me at least.
