I love this teacher. Thinking that we know something points to NOT-Knowing.... all to often at least. Everything can be more refined and cultivated... 🏮

Just my humble personal opinion (so not suggesting I am right. I could be wrong, so sorry if I am). Ajahn Brahm strikes me as a maverick and law unto himself. He is very entertaining; being able to engage his audience, using vocal animated storytelling and humour and what seem to be facts to present as someone who has a definitive authority on every aspect of life, the heavens and any subject. He talks (or lectures), hardly stopping to take a breath ...and his obedient followers patiently listen and seemingly accept all that is conveyed. However, if one was to get say 10 eminent and well versed Buddhist Monks, or rather 100 of the worlds smartest folk ...would they all agree, and on each and every topic? Why is it a human condition that when an individual subscribes to a particular belief, doctrine or school of thought, they often adopt an absolutest mindset about subjects no living human being can know for certain or cannot prove. ..." Even the Koran say Jesus Christ didn't die on the cross in a few hours"... ..."Even reincarnation was part of Christian teaching until the 3rd/4th century"... Ok, but what do other sources say? ...how can anyone say this or that about that with 100% certainty? We as humans just don't know for sure ..and cannot prove some things!!! ..I guess that's why faith or hope is often the overiding factor. For example, how can anyone prove or disprove reincarnation ..especially if using Buddhism's own thoughts on our thoughts/experiences etc being 'perceptions'. Ajahn Brahm is a likeable and seemingly decent human being, BUT I wish sometimes he would pause, think and search himself before making such claims about Jesus. Proping up ones position by the selective use of approving historical quotations or text etc, is not wise or fair given someone from another school of thought could easily take the same approach to substantuate their point of view. Ajahn Brahm please present things as thoughts for your audience to 'reflect' upon as opposed to appearing to have certain unquestionable answers to things not even all buddhists would take the same stance on. Seems like a great life, travelling around the world all expenses paid (as a poor monk with no money) and being received like royalty by an audience who sits a nd listens in quiet reverance. Certainly the life of some monks seems like a smart career move and vocation. "Maybe the truth and answers to some things can't be found in words ..no matter who utters them" (personal quote; 2015) No offence to buddhism or anyone .. Much peace

+Karl BHX Yeah I agree with you here. I love ajahn brahm and am totally brain-washed by everything he says. I really do tend to believe everything he says. But I also get that he doesn't always back up what his saying very well and when getting "scientific" he will use insubstantial case studies as certain proof. But... I just am in awe of his wisdom. His understanding of the mind is very powerful and has provided me huge relief with my own mind. His lifestyle also is really something to be impressed by, he travels the world giving talk after talk with seemingly no selfish motivation and an unending supply of energy. He gets nothing for it. Maybe you could say its an ego trip but it really doesn't come across like that. Anyway I tend to totally believe everything he says which could be dangerous but... its interesting in buddhism they speak of doubt being a hinderance in meditation. I know that sounds very sketchy, a religion saying that doubt is a hinderance! But I understand it on another level. If I believe ajahn brahm totally and fully, I am more susceptible to fully embracing his teachings. yes I am also more susceptible to being deceived but the teachings have been really powerful for me and helped me develop a great inner peace so I guess I'm trusting that as much as I trust ajahn brahm. So I'm aware that i'm allowing myself to be totally deceived by ajahn brahm, it's relying on a trust in him. I think the relationship between teacher and student has to have a strong bond of trust. In order to fully learn one must have to be willing to be deceived? what do you think?

+Rednuts142 - One other thing my friend, please take a look at this. I wouldn't want you to think that ALL Monks (Inc. Ajahn Brahm) necessarily travel the world giving talks in the way you described. Some have a great life, and not living a life of hardship and are often adorned and even worshipped in a sense. www.theguardian.com/world/2013/jun/17/thailand-cracks-down-monks-luxuries Jetting off from place to place, always being treated with respect, love, admiration and bring taken as an authority on each and every aspect of life.. Is it such a bad austere sacrificial life? Again, just for your reflection. You will have your own opinions. Peace

+Rednuts142 - ULTIMATELY, I have only given you a few of my thoughts and opinions to reflect upon. I may be wrong. So PLEASE... if YOU feel peace with what one particular Monk says and teaches... Then who am I or anyone to disturb that peace. Just embrace and bathe in that peace and continue on your path... Have a great day friend and may your mind/thinking be calm and peaceful... Thankyou

Karl BHX Yeah true in one way it could be seen as very luxurious life. It is certainly extravagant. Although Ajahn brahm claims that he did not become a monk to travel the world and be busy, he became a monk to meditate. According to him if he had his way he wouldn't leave his cave. Honestly I believe him, I mean after spending such a large portion of his life in a monastery actually meditating, it seems to me that if he didn't actually love it then he would have left long ago. Either way even if there is an ego trip involved and he is secretly loving the luxurious life, there is no doubt that it is extremely busy. I find it very impressive that he is able to find so much energy, I think that in itself is an ode to his self development in meditation. To be able to give so much. Thank you for your kind words. I wish the same to you my friend :)

+Rednuts142 - You (in my humble opinion) make very good points. I would say you are correct. The thing is we can all sound as if we know it all or our view is better than someone else's (so forgive me if I have come across that way). In truth, where I am concerned I really do know very little and I am not 100% sure about anything, for me regardless of all the religions, paths, great scholars, yogis, ides, concepts and mystics ETC.. deep deep within at the core of my being (the part I don't even understand and can only occasionally connect with) ...I feel life/existence and the cosmos is a mystery beyond all human and worldly understanding. Did you know that some folk (including some monks) suggest we are no more that robots of sorts ...the only problem is we don't know we are. Gve some reflection to that, and it does kinda fit with Buddhist thinking i.e. there is no body, no mind ..only experience. Anyway, that's one talk that I've heard by another respected Monk like AB. So for me ...I have just stop at the feeling that its all one big unfathomable mystery. IF you feel close to Again Brahm and like his style/delivery/energy etc, then no one should discourage that. Just be peaceful and be content and live your life... Only very small bit of advice I give people including myself don't focus to much on individual Monks (that's an attachment in itself) but just focus on Lord Buddha through the reading of the suttra's, deep reflection and meditation. Not sure if I've made sense there... Much peace, love, harmony and knowing.
