I love Ajax and IMHO he has his moments in the game but it depends on both how Ajax is played and if the party knows how to use him. He shines when things do not die in 3 seconds. Sadly, he doesn't make things die faster, just allow others to continue to kill at their own pace. IMHO he needs a buff when playing solo where he is the weakest (hard mode) due to low dps. Something like a secondary passive that says "if not in a party / no allies are close" add an effect like: Depending on the type of the weapon used every x bullet adds a small aoe explosion that scales on defense. Just so that he is a little bit more viable in solo plays on hard more. Personally I use him for bosses (tamer,dmg mods with 149 bullets, mental focus and weakpoint dmg) and he is doing alright (haven't tried last 3 bosses on hardmode yet), but for farming, hell no, Bunny all the way (and she stole his hp and Def mods for survivability but everything else full powah to delete everything on the map in a large radius.

Ajax is really good especially for late game content. He also requires minimal build just defense and hp and you’re pretty much good to go. Also having iron will can make your defense up to 100k easily.

I've basically mirrored this build down to the point where all the stats and bonuses are the exact same but i don't seem to be having any luck tanking at least not on hard anyway, the only difference is the positioning of the modules do i have to have them in the exact same module slot as the video, otherwise i don't get why it ain't working for me any help?

have you seen "OPTIMIZING DEFENSE IN #thefirstdescendant" video by Ryechews Games? he explains that you gain 10% reduction in damage every time you double your defense from 4000 defense. so 8000 is 20% 16000 is 30% 32000 is 40% and then u need 64k for 50% ect.

I believe it's fine to build more defense on Ajax even if the diminishing return increases as the number goes up (as explained by Ryechews) since his 1st and 4th ability scales on Defense.

who can get crit chance on module, the max is 40.5 on module plus the 14.3 on the reroll you go to 54%. i think its good. i have crit chance and weak point max out on rerrol, crit damage almost max too, just need to reroll fiream arm atk

@mlg5had0w34 In terms of survivability, Kyle literally can't die if you build him properly, nor does he require MP, just build a massive amount of cooldown, duration and crank shields, pop your 2 and soak up some shots, then activate your 3 for literal invincibility, when the boss staggers pop your 4 and hit him with the double explosion for insane burst damage that's based purely off your max shields.

Ajax shields hard scale with def, and have no soft or hard cap. You should always strive to have the highest defense possible with him cuz It's both more damage and more protection with shields (whuch are the only things you are gonna use for bossing anyway)

It's most effective to hit about 32k or slightly higher and fit a mod for %mitigation like auto immunity. That one mod will account for the 20k+ you need for the next tier of defense.

Arguable. He has lower defense and hp mods baseline and he needs to be shoulder charging to have his defense come close to Ajax in the same gear and mods baseline. In higher difficulties his magnetic power is stripped as fast as shields are when you use his 3 ability.

A comparison could be made, in MMO terms, to the Warden of LOTRO; not the heaviest armor, but tanks using abilities that double as offensive moves while buffing his survivability. He can absolutely tank, that's the main thing I use him for. Barrier for shield tanking? Check. Self-buff defense with his barge? Check. Negate incoming damage with an easy-to-fill meter? Check. Quick escape move that doubles as a mini-nuke? Check. Not a pure tank, but he can tank quite well.
