people who hold the s&p 500 usually don't understand almost all the businesses within the index, are they not investors? some superinvestors of graham and doddsville such as walter j. schloss don't even understand nor care about the underlying nature of his own 100 stock-portfolio holdings yet he beats the market for almost 30 years just by reading financial statements, is he not an investor? yeah you don't need to 100% fully understand a business in order to be a successful investor, having a wide margin of safety is more important
