Messi. It's hard to talk about talent, which may not even exist as a real thing. "Elegance" or "beauty" again are subjective. I am looking at the success rate of any endeavor in a game, average rating and dominance over a period of time. The fact that Messi remained the best while several generations and even football philosophies changed, day by day, being best on any field, indifferent against or with who he played with. Maradona was way more inconsistent than Messi, he had MOMENTS and he dominated SOME games and this lasted for a short time. Huge difference. As someone said, Maradona was Maradona sometimes, Messi is Maradona all the time - plus better vision, shooting, balance, football IQ, composure, professionalism, leadership and so on. What we keep seeing for Maradona are the same few (magical indeed) plays he had in some games, but not the hundreds of games where he was "normal". And which are edited with greater speed or removing parts where he lost the ball. When Messi will retire the compilations with him will have hundreds of hours. Think about it, from his almost 1000 goals, at least half are beautiful, he has the most dribbles completed in history, highest percentage in history and so on...

Yeah, anyone who says Messi or Ronaldo haven't actually seen the pitches Maradona had to contend with. Most were mud baths, sandpits or looked like they were riddled with mole hills. They were awful. I'm too young to remember Pele, and only ever seen the usual clips which probably amount to not more than 5 mins so can't give a fair opinion. I'd love to see Messi or Ronaldo on most of these pitches. I suspect they would struggle.

Now it has gone up in the 2000s to even above 3 goals per match. In SPain we see the same thing. When we look at the competitions where Diego played in in Europe, we see that the highest rate was in 1983 when he played in BNarcelona. But then again due to Goicoechea he barely played in the end....But I beleive it was 2,4 per match. the lowest amount from 2005-2021 where Messi played in was 2,7. So that is simply a vast difference and so it is no just MEssi or Ronaldo who score(d) a lot, it were all attackers scoring much more than before. And the reason is a change of rules from 1993 onwards that restrict defenders more and more and protects attackers more and more. That is the result.

thats because he was strong athlete.... he was built like a linebacker... he could have been a gymnast easily... he was covering the whole field... he used to take balls in the libero line and run all the way to the striker position all 90 min and many times longer.......

Metió los goles más increíbles en México 86, jugó en una época en la que las faltas por detrás no se sancionaban con amarillas,en las que los jugadores en línea era offside y el juego era muchísimo más físico y los arbitros no lo protegían como a Messi. En una época en la que solo jugaba Champions el 1ro de la Liga y en Mundiales en los que Brasil y Alemania eran bestias. Maradona nunca tuvo a Xavi e Iniesta asegurandote un 75% de posesión de balon. Messi es un grandisimo jugador pero no lo comparen con el más grande.
