Anyone who thinks there's been a better player to ever walk this earth needs to take a good long look at this video. It's pure sorcery. Unbelievable sublime jaw dropping skills. Messi, make no mistake is one fantastic player. Absolutely he is. But Diego's skills are so mind blowing. Some of those moves defy physics. You're left yourself saying time and again. How the hell did he do that. There's never been a player like him and for my money , never will be In his prime and injury free,he was unplayable. Kicked and hacked to death on poor pitches. Maradona is ok, but Messi literally pull out the same type of plays and even at his own style and he did more times and for longer. Messi was also the best player of probably the best club team of all football history and that says everything. Maradona was great but couldn't keep up that level as long as Messi did. I give him the credit to do it in the World Cup but at the end day is a bit of luck that you combine your prime with a World Cup. Messi played at the stew level in multiple competitions and his records in almost everything confirm it.

If he'd Been in that Barca team instead of Messi with iniesta and Xavi with the more protection they got from referees, they'd have won even more. He carried the Napoli team that won seria A. In 1986,he bossed the world cup from day 1. He was the story of that competition from start to finish. Messi rarely turned up in world cups over his time. He was spent physically. Thi last one playing for PSG,he was rested a lot, because the French league isn't deep in quality.

@@765ketyjo No. People completely forget Maradona was there already in the Argentinian premier league at the age 15 and I think he became toipscorer, as a midfiielder in age 16,17, 18,19 and 20. He was the best player in that league and arguably around the world age 17 (from 1978) onwards to 1990. I have not seen Messi doing what Maradona did btw. Messi while fantastic lacks the artistry and that is because he uses the very same rather confinded skillset all the time to very good use. Maradona had so much more variaty in fooling opponents, passing balls, shooting from huge distances and making split second decisions and still excecute to perfection. Messi, is the best of this century, Maradona is the best I ever saw. But there may be someone that will be even better, I bet there are quite a few that could match of better him. Alas, todays football makes player play in a system, not paly as free as he could so they are contained. Otoh rules ever since 1995 and increasingly onwards strongly favour player like Maradona, Messi etc. The pitches do so too. When I played football in the 80s if it rained the leatherball weighed like a brick, not todays balls. So this is all in favcour of attackers.

I don't care what anyone says of today's players. Maradona hands down was the greatest player to walk to planet. He won the World Cup in 86 single handedly. I remember watching those games. Mediocre team at best. If it weren't for Maradona Argentina would have had no chance in that tournament. He almost did it again in 1990's world cup. Not to mention had a severely injured ankle at the time, but still played. A talent given to him to rise him and his family out of the slums of Argentina by GOD himself.

Had to be seen to truly understand it. Imagine, in some of these clips he's almost toying with defenders like he's at home playing with his kids. In 30 mins of highlights you can't show another player in existence with his capabilities. No player on earth replicates 86, nor winning with Napoli with completely average players around them. Just stop Maradona and you succeed, they not only couldn't, but he's also doing fucking tricks with the ball in the corner to entertain the crowd, while defenders try to chop him down. I come from Naples and I was lucky enough to be a boy when Maradona joined our team. I had many chances to see him play live and I must say that perhaps Maradona's greatest skill, which neither this fantastic video can show, is that he had the capacity, with his charisma and his generosity, to transform even the worst players of his team (and Napoli for example had many mediocre players at that time) in very good players...

That's one of the many important aspects that so so so many people fail to factor in or understand. You can't measure inspiration and leadership ability, but no one else could do those things better. Players merely compare in an aspect or two sure. He was and still is, light years ahead not only technically, he was world's away in aspects that can't be measured. I challenge anyone who has any real knowledge of football to watch the whole 30 minutes of this and try to make a case for Diego maradona NOT to have been the GOAT. And not just, but by a country mile. Messi doesn't come close, great though he was. Zidane too and Cruyff.He produced moments of such jaw dropping magic, again and again you find yourself asking yourself -How could he have done that ? Lo de Maradona no se puede explicar con palabras, yo llevo viendo fútbol desde 1993(cuando el Diego estaba ya en decadencia) y creo que es sin duda el mejor de todos los tiempos.
