Dhruv Rathee (German shepherd) 1. He can make 2 videos on Manipur but can't make 1 video on Sandeshkhali. 2. He can make videos on Electoral Bonds Scam But can't make a single video on Liquor Policy Scam. 3. He can say that Modi is a dictator but he can't see the dictatorship in West Bengal. 4. Yes, media definitely is paid right now and we must stand and question our government from time to time. This does not mean that the Government hasn’t done anything in the past 10 years. We have seen economic and digital growth. Digitally. Tap and Toilets have been provided to the rural people. Our foreign policy has improved. We are being recognised as a potential Global market for business. I know we have unemployment issues and also people living in poverty and sleeping hungry everyday and Government must do something about that but it doesn’t mean opportunities were not created over the years.

Singapore is a far bigger dictatorship than India can ever be. It has a single party in power since independence (no opposition is effective or has ever won). There is no independent media, no reports or articles can be published that are not directly approved by the government. The current PM is older PM's own son. If you wish to protest the government, you need to obtain a license from the government for doing so. And yet, I bet Dhruv feels no issues with Singapore's place in the world. Try publishing a youtube video "Is Singapore's PM a dictator" and it will be taken down by youtube in Singapore immediately in the name of "social and racial harmony". Imprisonment for sedition (waging war against the country) are used flimsily for as simple as facebook posts. The "mamata baneerjee dance" on any of the leaders would definitely get you arrested so will criticizing religion especially Islam. The education system and media people read is tightly controlled so anyone who graduates becomes very pro-government. They also have a strange and strong obsession with China throughout their education system, and people also become quite China-leaning. Schools frequently have exchange programs with China, case studies in humanities and economics and other subjects largely revolve around China with an anti-west chinese worldview, with chinese foreign ministry's stand on taiwan or disputed islands taught as de facto, even as far as presenting communism as a viable option just like democracy.

But locally, they mostly achieve this by repeated exposure to same ideas and phrases, mostly through education and media, which they control. In a survey, 70% people in singapore agreed/strongly agreed economic growth is more important than freedom. And only 50% agreed it is important to be able to criticize government. Most people don't accidentally land on these views. They've been taught to have these views, through repeated drilling by how subjects were taught, to what articles get written in media. So by the time you graduate, and read cna or straits times everyday, you start to think these are your own views and start defending them never realizing you were taught these views. I mean, unless people were living outside, they would be afraid to even make comments like this one.
