Yeah because it’s on the wharf with heaps structures, and I was targeting snapper and trevally, need a tight drag and stronger rod. I lost so many fish before, If I was on a boat or kayak that’s different story.

What kind of fish u targeting on soft bait?
@wilwonkaloompa2 жыл бұрын
@@EZfishingNZ im always aiming for a snapper and trevally. Mostly i fish on kawakawa bay wharf and tried the soft bait for my short rod while waiting for the bite on my long fishing rod. I inspired again how you catch a fish using soft plastic.
@EZfishingNZ2 жыл бұрын
Trevally actually like micro jig better, I found it easier to catch them with micro jig. The trick for snapper is to go slow, move ur softbait as slow as it can be, u can jig a few times but after that jigging action I usually stop moving for like 10 seconds or longer, they love to pick up softbait from the bottom. Also the jig head u should go as light as possible, just enough to feel it reaches the bottom. Usually I use 1/8 oz jig head if no current just 1/16, stronger current 1/4, but I usually get significantly less bites on 1/4oz jig head, I’m talking about shore fishing, 1/4 is perfect for boat fishing.

Hi. I've been enjoying your video recently. Great vids! Was wondering about your setup (reel and rod). I'm starting to get into your style of fishing plus eging. Any recommendations would be great also. Thanks in advance!
@EZfishingNZ2 жыл бұрын
Glad u enjoy my videos, thanks. I used the my egi rod for ajing as well, which is Shimano sephia BB 83ml, reel was stradic 2500, with Daiwa 12braid 16lb strength I think, 13lb leader. Thats not what people usually use for ajing, people usually use 6-8lb leader I think, I suggest u try egi rod for ajing first, coz u can fish for squid in winter as well, if u wanna go a bit lighter, I recommend Shimano Dialuna S86L-S, better action, and it’s solid tip u can feel better
@saman83882 жыл бұрын
@@EZfishingNZ thanks for the reply! Is Dialuna eging rod as well? I was actually looking for rod and reel suitable for both eging and ajing. How do you find 2500 reel? I was initially looking at 3000 reel. Also, do you have experience with Vanford 3000 reel (replacement to Stradic)? What do you think of it? TIA!
@saman83882 жыл бұрын
@@EZfishingNZ and also, which reel would you recommend to match with Dialuna S86LS?
@EZfishingNZ2 жыл бұрын
Vanford is kind of the new Stradic, if u can’t find 2500 just get c3000, I got a 1000 for my Dialuna that’s because I mainly target trout and salmon with it.

@ceruleanx53642 жыл бұрын
do you ever need to apply scent to your soft baits and jig heads?
@EZfishingNZ2 жыл бұрын
No, u just need to be there the perfect timing, different fish show up the same season, same depth(light positions on that wharf) and almost same conditions (tide, morning, afternoon, windy, rainy or sunny). I used to live near there and fished that spot more than 1000times for the last couple years and I recorded most of my fishing trips, also the exact time I got fish there, so now I kind of know when I got the best chance to catch something there. For example, few years ago, there’s one week I was getting kingy at same spot every day the same time (1.5 -2hours after low tide in the afternoon, and can’t be perfect sunny day) then next year u just go the same condition, that will increase ur chances.

The trick is to wind and get ur rod tip close to the fish first, then u just lift and use that inertia, don’t stop, but I don’t recommend to do this if u don’t know the limit of the rod.
