10:25 FYI, vortegaunts in Half-Life 1 become rather friendly when they are hurt - they will cower and try to hide (if possible). In this state, they will only attack you if you come close to them. Some guy has made a video on it (I think it was Marphitimus Blackimus). Basically, this type of behaviour could be connected with the fact that vortegaunts are acting agains their will in HL1.

Maybe Black Mesa also had a bit of an understanding what guard duty actually entails. Case in point, they have about a billion Barney's where they didn't prioritize attention spans, and the facility is a complete warzone now. They clearly had massive issues even before that.

Don't forget smoking and drinking coffee. in all seriousness, a really good security guard is one that doesn't get bored and can keep themselves awake, observant and ready for anything even when nothing happens all day.
