I do really appreciate that the two major Slaadi lords looks completely different. They don't share a single thing in common appearance wise. I wonder why she and Ygorl wished for the spawning stone to make all lesser Slaadi look like toads?

All of the Slaad lords are different. They are like demon lords in that. Each starts off the same, but eventually becomes unique. The pattern creates chaos, rather than a pattern developing from chaos, such as in Mechanicus. It’s almost like they are the reverse of each other, yeah?

My guess it was the the way to let them all to get as close to the chaos they came from while not breaking the spawning stone. The stone was originally a way for order to tame chaos that was in turn corrupted by chaos. It may be easier to get more freedom from order by accepting a lesser bit of order. In this case...allowing fixed shapes to gain some greater freedom.

I don’t recall right offhand if it is the gray or the death Slaad that turn into Slaad lords, but every one in existence has the possibility of becoming a unique Slaad lord. Every Slaad lord has been every kind of Slaad over the course of its existence. That’s why I said that the Slaad lords are the chaos that comes out of defined order. There is a very specific order they go through to become unique beings of utter chaos. I think there were seven Slaad lords detailed over the history of the game, but I might have that number wrong. There is no fixed limit to how many there can be, but they will all go through Red, Blue, Green, Gray and Death Slaad to become a Slaad Lord.

Here's an off-the-cuff question; Is there any association between her and Yochlols? Given the nature of their transformation, and the connections the Abyss has with Chaos, I wouldn't put it past the Drow to try and channel a being of this power, or, vice versa, Lolth to take notes from Ssendam in one of her many ways of punishing her followers.

Perhaps the yochols were once under the command of Ssendam, but Lolth stole them from her and Ssendam just didn't care enough to do anything about it. She has mortals to drive crazy. Edit: Either that, or Juiblex and Ssendam had some kids, Juiblex got custody, and then gifted them to Lolth to spread ooze control.

Personally I don't like how Sladdi are seemingly the only major species set in the realms of chaos. They have just have this clear thru line in their design and play stile that just feels counter intuitive to beings of pure chaos. So I personally home brew rule Juiblex and oozes to be inherently chaotic in origin. Just to add a bit more variety to the realms of chaos.

The Slaadi lords represent chaos coming from a pattern. The abyssal lords start chaotic and remain chaotic throughout their existence. Limbo is chaos emerging from a pattern. Mechanicus is a pattern emerging from chaos. They are the two sides of the same coin with the prime material as the middle bleeding through into each.

Slaad lords are so much fun, but so impossible to play. Madness is perfect logic applied randomly. That’s what makes it nearly impossible to play it. Anything you do with Ssendam will fall short in either randomness or logic. Is she madness or does she nurture madness, because there is a difference between the two. So much fun can be had with this, but I can’t do it justice.

You could always pull a double-bluff and make Ssendam seem like the most logical, reasonable person in the room. When clever players inevitably find out what she is, they'll then twist themselves into knots trying to ascribe meanings to her actions.

@ ... but in Faery (a.k.a. the Feywilds) time sometimes moves at a much quicker pace than in the Prime Material, so that a Mortal who has fallen asleep beside an oak tree on a hillock which is actually a portal or coterminus to Faery, may have just been gone for a day and a night in that realm, as a guest in the Seelie Court, but when his spirit returns to the body under the tree, it is now one of an old man with white on his crown and a beard to his toe-tips. I like your answer! I just think that time could pass at different paces at different places in the Multiverse (just as it does in our real world universe) and I think in at least the 3.5 Manual of the Planes, the direction and speed of time is given for each plane, just as the direction and force of gravity (which varies).

Think of the difference between demons and slaad is demons are Capital E evil lower case c chaotic and slaad are Capital C Chaos with a lower case on whatever the moral component is for them. Slaad are really just about chaos and any morality is merely arbitrary. Demons are evil to their core and their flavor of evil is chaotic.
