Most are found in service to higher level demons and often wield subtle illusions and enchantments to tempt their victims into committing heinous and unspeakable acts. Despite this, they are able to mingle with and corrupt most mortal races with relative ease.

do Erinyes, as a DnD creature i know almost nothing about them. as a summoner of devils/fiends you could succubi/incubi to take out whole armies, "one way... or annother...". as a question, in the sense of rakshasa do they prefure the prime material plane to the abyss or inferno?

Good question. Erinyes are basically the form of the angels that had fought chaos for so long, they became warped and evil because of it, so, they were no longer welcome in the Celestial realms, and to some extent, they are fine with that, they harbour a lot of resentment towards the Celestial order, as they were fighting on their behalf.. essentially, they have many tens of thousands of years of pent up PSTD, and it manifests itself as a compulsive obsession with martial combat.. they tend to congregate together because they find each other worthy training opponents, and so for thousands of years, when not in battle, they are sparring with each other and seeking out new challenges to test their fighting superiority, this may take them to any realm in the D&D Universe, but they rarely stay in any place for long, they venture out on 'missions' and return to the Nine Hells to train and prepare for the next mission. To the rest of the denizens of the Hells, the Erinyes are like the Boba Fett's of Devil kind.. they each have a reputation, their names are known, and their services are available if the challenge involved is something that interests them. Their price is the challenge, their service is violence.

Another great question! To the best of my knowledge, Devils can be raised up from the mass of Lemures, first into Imps, and then into higher and higher ranking forms, as per the whims of greater Devils. Now we do have an official clue to the nature of the Erinyes in the Monster Manual, where it says "Legend tells that the FIRST Erinyes were angels that fell from the upper planes." so, we know that there are subsequent generations of Erinyes who are not members of that original group, thus, Erinyes can be created from lesser devil kind, just like any other. This also means that there may be elite Erinyes who are individuals who were there when the angels first fell, thus, they are contemporaries of Asmodeus himself, and there are a fluctuating total number of Erinyes at any one time, with the potential for there to be more created as needed.

Actually, as of 5th edition, the Blood War is officially over, but more on that later, when I do a video on Nessus and Asmodeus. Fiends are devils, its just another word for them as a type, so Fiendish means for Devils what Demonic means for Demons.

The Succubi are fascinating when you consider they serve all other fiends. I can easily imagine a rebellion in Hell, the Abyss, and other fiend-ridden planes where some masterful Succubi chooses to lead her "sisters" in a move to win their own "homeland", setting fiend against fiend after years of hearing their secrets while serving as their concubines. The other planes may have their own opinions on the matter, but Hell will have nothing of it, setting Erinyes to task to bring these treacherous servants to heel. Now... let that war bleed over into the Prime Material, and you have a table that might be influenced by one side or another.

While possible, not probable. Most succubi will betray and compete with each other for their own kingdoms. You can see this with the current Queen of Succubi. Constantly fending off rivals and making alliances with greater powers like Asmodeus and Demogorgon.

The Succubus, like the Erinyes are not confined to the hells or the abyss. They can freely travel to the prime material without being summoned. They are temptation incarnate, which is why they can freely travel through all of the infernal realms and the prime material. Think of them as the Valkyries of Lust.

Steve Jackson Games produced In Nomine, which was based on the war between Heaven and Hell. The explanation of the Habballah, a fallen Elohim, can give you some idea how a good succubus can exist. It isn’t evil to tempt you into your own destruction, because you are already evil. She is committing a good act by sending you screaming into the hells, even if it for sins you may not have committed without her putting the opportunity in front of you. The motivation determines good or evil, not the act. She may very well be a good fiend, purging the evil from the prime, using the tools she has at her disposal. Only a succubus could twist herself into that sort of knot, believing herself to be good, born out of the hells themselves.

Playing a campaign where my character (high-elf eldritch knight/master-chef) accidentally seduced a succubus with his prodigal cooking skills and ended up dating her for five years. He eventually realized that she's obsessive batsh*t crazy and also pretty abusive if she thinks he's cheating, so he broke up with her via letter and is traveling as a bodyguard to a wizard to hide from her. Also, she's the first princess of the nine hells... Can't wait to see what my DM does with that. :)

@@michaelscotts3949 i personally enjoy the idea of fiends that arent devils, demons, or yugoloths. Baator was a place of is own before it became the nine hells after all, and it seems reasonable that creatures like the hellwasp, hellhound, and incubus/succubus were inhabants of Baator who became fiends after the corrupting influence of Asmodeus warped them with the rest of the realm. It's the only way I can see "hell animals" making sense, since it would be weird to send a wasp/dog/etc to hell for moral reasons. And if it works for them, it can work that way for more intelligent fiends as well.

I really dislike that succubi are neutral evil now. It messes with the categorization of fiends, since they were originally categorized by alignment with devils being lawful, demons being chaotic, and daemons being neutral. But now succubi are the same alignment as daemons but are just scattered everywhere. They even seem to have gotten rid of Malcanthet entirely.

I would look at it as a side effect of their unique powers. What makes them special amongst demons also means they are not combat specialists like most demons. As such they have to use guile to achieve their goals. That is a different outlook than a glabarezu. Who while also a very cunning foe has immense power in direct combat. So can just charge straight in if things go sideways. A succubus can't do that normally. They would have to have secured all manner of defenses so as to make up for their lack of direct combat prowess, like the queen herself. She is strong, but nearly as formidable as she would be without the patronage of her lovers. Anyone who could penetrate her defenses would have to question whether they would want the ire of that lot.

useful note on the charm: it nowhere sais that the target becomes aware that it was charmed when the charm ends, unlike any other charm. aka you can charm someone and in the end they don't know they where charmed, they can guess, but they don't know.

Do you know a good place to get a PC stat set for a succubus? I've tried looking it up, but I keep finding different stat sets (from +2 to +_4_ cha) and since I've not played since ADD/Baldur's Gate, I started feeling that the stat set is no longer peak 18 human to max 25 for any given stat. You know what someone needs to make, is the Succubus Civil War campaign. Bear with me for a little here. At the end of Savage Tides you free Shami-Amourae and ether take Demogorgon down a serious peg, or kill him outright depending on how you interpret Demon Lord Avatar Shenanigans/how willing you are to put one of D&D's most iconic villains in the dead heap. But now the former Succubus Queen is Free, and Malcanthet's prime sugar daddy just carked it. What would happen in the Abyss after this would arguably be more fascinating than the Savage Tide scenario itself. The mexican stand off between Orcus/Graz'zt and Demogorgon is over and all hell is about to literally break loose. Malacanthet hates Graz'zt, Shami-Amourae knows this, and Graz'zt controls a large segment of the succubi population already, namely the ones who are disaffected with Malcanthet AKA, the ones who probably supported alternate Succubi queens in the past, of which Shami is the foremost. So, a Graz't Shami alliance could spell the overthrow of Malcanthet, and the rise of Graz'zt as the new Prince of Demons, someone who is not going to sit on his ass, is smart enough to see the blood war for the attrition trap that it is, and is finally going to be proactive about takeing the fight to heaven.

My last two game shops over fifth teen years started with AD&D2ndE, White Wolf/ World of Darkness, and follow into 3.5e, so we had an interesting house brew magic system. The Blood Wars were fun and making raids on the first levels of a given plane were high risk/ cost efforts. If demons are killed in the Abyss their energies just reform into other demon types. First kill their host bodies, then capture their energies, then bleed off those energies. WW/Wod had a better magic system then D&D in dealing with destroying spirits. Low int demons are little better than mad dogs on a kill frenzy. The main difference between the horrors of the Abyss and Far Realm. Abyss wants to wreak everything around itself and actively cause pain. Far Realm doesn't care to really enter act with what is of no notice to it's self. 2.) War machines of the Blood Wars, .. a.) Golems need to be purge of corruption after prolong use in a given lower plane, .. if they even survive a single battle of raid. b.) Multiple limb attacking giant zombies with Delay Fireball Blast charge with Positive/ Divine Energy. c.) Soul Stones to collect spiritual Abyssmal energies, to be strip bare or come under the effect of Helm of Alignment Change. d.) We even had titanic size hamster balls with dragons inside of them rolling/ crushing hordes of demons before them. There is the issue of Vibrational Frequency which corresponds to a given align of ethics & morality. As it was pointed out in the AD&D2ndE Planescape campaign box setting in regards to petitioner in the first layer of Baator that wasn't evil enough to become the lowest level fiend. " No other place ... Feels .. like home. I'm not comfortable else where." So a Chaotic being will not willing live on a Lawful plane.

Great question! The sources I use fall into three categories. Online wikipedia style sites, foremost of those are en.wikipedia.org and forgottenrealms.wikia.com/ Monster Manuals (including the fiend folio, dragonomicons, book of vile darkness, etc) of which I own most, or have a PDF copy available. Dragon magazine and Dungeon magazine (mostly Dragon articles), I have all of them and they can be very useful. While I will occasionally watch other youtube channels talk about monsters, I don't use them as source material, as I like to check and relay facts from published material, or peer reviewed material such as the wiki entries.

fiendish codex: hordes of the abyss 3.5 edition is where the glory days of demons and succubi, and the succubi queen Malcanthet were some of the worst shit a party could EVER encounter. currently running a game themed around her, and her position in hell being ursurped. She's trapped in a homebrew world where she has finally gotten free of her prison and is slowly taking over the globe. Our mage has gotten to full on AOE the piss out of an orgy room full of succubi and corrupted diplomats/etc. Was a good story arc ;) It's still running, they haven't met Malcanthet yet but they're about to.

It was in 4E. In that edition’s cosmology, demons were a subtype of elementals, as the Abyss was a section of the Elemental Chaos. Demons were characterized as wild, unthinking engines of destruction. The succubus, then, better fits in with the devils, which lure and tempt mortals in attempts to gain power. So, the succubus transitioned to devil for that edition. The side effect was a change to the Erinyes, which were roughly the devilish counterpart to the succubus in previous editions, as they became more monstrous rather than beautiful fallen angels. Now, in 5E, the succubus is neither demon nor devil, lacking either subtype/keyword. It is a fiend still, but it is its own thing. Since the Blood War is a thing of the past, the hard demarcation between demon and devil isn’t really necessary anymore, I think. It’s still good to have them in groups for ease of reference and certain game effects, but they’re not trying to kill each other 24/7 now. In my homebrew world, Fierna is the queen of the succubi, and she worked with Glasya to oust both of their fathers and take control of the Hells. Glasya has taken Asmodeus’ portfolio and is now the Goddess of Evil and Rule of Hell in addition to her old position as Goddess of Treachery. Fierna rules the 4th level, where he has her father imprisoned, and her succubi are the undisputed aristocracy of that level. As for Asmodeus, he is now the Mad Exile, and is God of Madness and Paranoia.

A novel about it, and how they manipulate a group of adventures to help them thinking they are ridding the multiverse of some of its greatest threats, only to find out they're replacing them AND helping their children take their place and as well as taking control of EVERYTHING, then they have to stop those 2 from taking control of all creation since there's nothing they can do as they already helped them take the place of their fathers. Now I'd read the hell out of that series(I imagine that'd be one hellaciously long novel if it were all one book)

@@IrrevMike I played a 9th-level wizard running around using Polymorph to mimic different monsters and to con other people, ripping off or scaring villages. After wards my DM told me to draw up that given monster and to rewrite up that characters' skill list. That is how I set myself up to run PC monsters when most people at the shop wasn't allowed to or they couldn't pull it off. It helped I was one of the back up DMs, so I have a knack at running multiple PC at once. So when we had enough people to run three of five groups, I was the rule lawyer making sure that a player could pull off their PC actions. Along with running side quests in villages/ towns. We also run VtM so it wasn't uncommon for someone to PC vampires in our D&D campaigns. We even had some strange theory rules on Magic Jar spells along with Ploymorphing other PC into turtles, follow with Stone to Flesh and selling them as Soul Stones to Night Hags.

You could do so in 3e, .. Other wise you just start with their HD being their starting PC class level then start applying additional character classes to them. I started adding class levels to them back in AD&D2ndE 25 years ago to increase their Xp value in defeating them.

I fill like you changed topic part way through this. From sucbbus to where they live in the nine hell's to other devil's that live there to! They all so live in the Abyss! From what I understand stand. Because they are infact demon's. That kinda got stuck in the nine hell's. When the abyss got thrown to the bottom of the elementel caos. So the one suck in the nine hell's may have got infussed with the powers of the nine hell's changing them more fiendish then they where before. So macking some demon's and some more fiendish in nature I think. And there queen lives currently in the nine hell's but own and controls one of the layers of the abyss as well. Witch is why they fall between the to extremes of chaotic evil and lawful evil. In to the neutral evil. And thus the reason unless like devil's can break contracts. Much like Demon's do. So they fit quite nicely in ether places. Doing so being spy's for both the nine hell's and the abyss. Tacking no side being on both. And why they can speak both abyssle and fiendish! Evin though powers of the nine hell's might have warped them some what they are still at there core demons and not fiends. I would all so love a video on Alu-fiends some thing to do with succubus have children with mortals. And how they are all ways female they have a male conterpart if the sucbbus was an incubus witch if so are all ways male. Why because I really want to create an Alu-fiend Drow character. As An 13th level shadow assassin, 5th fighter and 3rd worlock or 17th shadow monk and 3rd level warlock!

Succubi can be demons, devils, or neither. The succubi listed in 5e is the "neither" type from my understanding. Malcanthet is more spesifically the queen of demonic succubi.

That was in 4e. With 3e, all that was needed was a 8th-level wizard using the 4th-level arcane spell Lesser Planar Binding to call a vampire spirit to get infected by. AD&D2ndE, the 7th-level spell Ensnarement was used to call outsiders/ planar beings. AD&D Ravenloft box set, it was a 6th-level spell of Bestow Greater Curse.

OK, this question is a can of worms, so I will start off saying there is no canon answer to this, nothing supported by the lore, though you can add templates to basically any monster listing, so, it would be a devil with demon traits, not a demon with devil traits, reason being that Demons are not, technically, biological, they are more like ectoplasm animated by powerfully bad juju, so, if they were to 'breed' with a Devil, which is basically a fallen angel, so, a form of biological life that doesn't age and has some radically alien aspects to it.. well, the Demon infuses cells of the Devil and instigates a form of reproduction where a clone baby altered by it's demonic essence is created. This means that the offspring may not even need gestation, it could form as a fully grown adult, even separated from the devil's body, because it is not a complete biological entity, it is a biological form, animated by bad, bad demon juju. So, you now have an abyssal fiend that, if it were to breed, would always produce demon spawn, but, if it gets slaughtered it would not reform as an Abyssal fiend, it would revert to being just a Demon, as it's biological essence would not be re-absorbed into the abyss and recreated intact, it would just re-absorb the demonic juju and spawn more demons.Hope that made sense.

D&D 3rd edition monstrous manual had their states. Other wise just roll 4d6 and keep the three highest dice for their states. Use their hd as their starting character level then start adding other character classes to them. And how does a creature that can change gender on a whim even see gender? I've switched (from the worlds perspective) once, and it's changed my outlook MASSIVELY. I won't lie, I'm a touch jealous lol. I mean most of the multiverse is basically bunch of fun little toys in a sandbox from their perspective regardless but what happens if they fall in love with one of those fun little toys? Since there not bound by mortal neurochemistry could they be lacking the normal response that regulates your attraction to other potential partners possibly leading to a situation where there genuinely in love with numerous beings? Can they be heartbroken and gods help the poor soul responsible what does that look like? As a player I gotta say the idea of a succubus falling in love with a character of mine sounds terrifying, however as a Gm the idea makes me want to tap my fingers together in sadistic glee. Remember people, real life abusive relationships can be horribly traumatic but they make for good inspiration if you really want to play these creatures in an appropriately evil manner. Don't be afraid to pull a Thano's or a Kilgrave when it comes time for a genuine confession of love, everyone has their own definition and that definition can be pretty fucked up.

Nephilim, biblical reference: Crossbreeds born of angels and humans prior to the great flood, characterised by their giant stature. In the D&D universe, Giants are a distinct species with a divine origin, but it is not from Angels.. Angels in D&D form the species of Angels and Devils, with their crossbreeds being the Aasimar (for angels) and the Cambion (for the the devils, usually from a pairing of a Succubus and a human).. Tieflings are not crossbreeds, they are the result of a fiendish pact. So, if you wanted to use the word Nephilim in D&D, it would more accurately apply to all humanoid beings with a supernatural aspect to their origin.. which is almost every kind of humanoid in the game, including Gnolls, Dwarves, Elves, etc.
