This is by far the best research on Netheril that I have ever seen. Congratulations !!! My two cents, it wasn't iolaum that casted the first "Move Mountain" spell, it was Proctiv. It's in the 3.5 players guide to faerun.

@@AJPickett lol hes got ya there...Iolaum actually created the first enclave but used the 2nd lvl spell "Yturns Levitation" and lvl 7,"Chronomancers Gravity Reversal" to duplicate the lvl 10 "Move Mountain" spell! Ooooh... Thanks man! This is going to be useful! EDIT: Superb. I’m running a campaign at the moment that will culminate in the players having to fight a mad angel (he’s glitched right out, mate - Ao needs to try turning it off at the wall then turning it back on again...) and one of the main thrusts of the end-game is how Netheril was destroyed, the nature of godhood, hubris and magic and how it’s so easy for a result to be far away from the intent. I really, honestly appreciate this coherent history because it’s going to be an invaluable resource for this campaign. Goddamnit I love this channel... peace, man: have a good one!

1.) Is Iolumes longevity above a ninth level spell? 2.) Dose that mean that Iolumes longevity works on undead (or are alhoons not fully undead)? 3.) Is epic magic now impossible or the prime material plane (or at least where mystra is in charge) or just more difficult? 4.) If a epic magic effect like a floating city, made somewhere else, was to enter toril, would it stop working? 5.) Why did the elves not adopt epic magic rather than sacrificing the lives of powerful casters to do similar things? 6.) Did the netheres have contact with things outside of faerun (other parts of toril, other planets, crystal spheres, planes, etc.)? 7.) Since, if I remember correctly, magic comes from living things and the weave allows people to tap into it without ending up like in Dark Sun, did they ever run into the problem of not having enough magic (before the Phaerimm)? 8.) Do the mythals need a power source or do they just keep going forever? 9.) Asuming they had atained this level of magic, why did they not travel through time or alternate dimensions, or at least the planes or wild space, or at all really? They could have found something to help them win the war, or used that to flee since more than just Iolume and his followers probably saw what was happening. 10.) Are non-undead members of the creator races still alive? 11.) What dose the oracle usually ask for in exchange for is knowledge, and dose he limit it? 12.) Are you planning on doing a video/stream talking about epic magic (assuming there is enough information to work with)?
@AJPickett5 жыл бұрын
1.) Yes, Ioulaum's longevity was a spell of epic magic developed in the Year of Dwarves Besieged, −674 DR to extend his lifespan over the centuries. Ioulaum's longevity dealt massive damage to every creature within its area of effect. Any creature slain by this spell was reduced to dust. The spell also damaged constructs, objects, and undead, but only living creatures could contribute to the longevity of the caster. Each living creature destroyed by this spell extended the life of the caster by one year 2.) Alhoon are not undead, they are Illithid Spellcasters. The spell destroys undead (but the caster does not gain life from their destruction) 3.) It is impossible on the continent of Faerun, outside of the domain of the Faerun gods, it may still be possible (for example, in Maztica or Kara-Tur or Chult in particular). 4.) No, as demonstrated from the flying enclave that returned from the Shadowfell. 5.) The Mythals are much more durable and stable, permanent spells, generally speaking. 6.) Yes. 7.) Not as far as I am aware. 8.) Mythals do not last forever, but they generally last for thousands of years. 9.) There may exist many parallel dimensions where this happened, the Faerun we are familiar with is the dimension in which this did not happen. Timey Wimey Wibbly Wobbly. 10.) Yes, the LeShay, for instance, are immortal (unless killed) 11.) Ioulaum extracts a terrible price for the information he provides, either the voluntary, permanent loss of some fraction of the questioner’s sanity (permanent loss of 1d4 points of Wisdom) or the complete knowledge of a new epic spell (which is then forever lost to the questioner). 12.) Yes.
@dragonturtle76455 жыл бұрын
@@AJPickett Thank you for answering this many questions. Volo's Guide says that the alhoon is essentially a minor form of litchdom. Is it also a general term for illithid spell casters? Also, are the souls of those used in Ioulaums longevity destroyed as in a litches phylactery (and presumably mon-mind flayers trapped in an alhoons periapt for long enough) or do they pass on to their afterlife like in any other form of death?

There seems to be a running theme with people who want to extend their lives, become a lich or kill a God and absorb their essence. Are there any other ways people/creatures in the D&D universe can become immortal?
@michaelkelligan79315 жыл бұрын
Yes,yes there is. First you need the spell Life force exchange lvl 9 in "The Complete Book of Necromancers" 2nd edition circa 1995 You'll need a Necromancer to cast that one. Then you need to get him or her to research a new version of it that will work on Titans. Then you need to somehow subdue a Titan with a Charm monster spell or use a wish to put it to sleep then cast "Titan Lifeforce Exchange on the creature and if it fails both its magic resistance and its save vs magic the casters or your life force and the titans will switch places permanently. You then need to completely destroy the casters old body and TA DAAA! Your now in the body of a titan which is naturally immortal! Worked for me after 5 years of spell research and about 250,000 gp in costs and my Warlock/Philosopher is now currently the God of Death and Necromancy and hes created a new race of Titans! Hope this is helpful.....AJ also did an awesome video on the monsters called xvarts check that one out if you would rather campaign with others to try to acheive immortality that way....hope this was helpful! 😉 Also if you do manage to get a Necromancer to do all this for you,i recommend you kill him immediatly after he's completed your task!
@liefone5 жыл бұрын
Positive energy liches (baelnorns), in pathfinder a 20th level wizard can take the immortality feat, there are potions that make you younger, philosopher stones, wish spells to become younger (carefull how you word that), other forms of undead: vampires, ghouls (they are intelligent), mummies, death knights, the undying (positive energy undead) becoming a god also works or the poor mans option of instead becoming a type of outsider (angel, archon, demon, ect...) deals with demons sometimes can give immortality (but come with a new host of problems), body snatching, becoming a intelligent golem. A simple one is to cast clone spells on your self when your younger, than preserve the corpse till your older to off your self and become younger or if your into rolling dice get a friend to cast reincarnation when ever you feel a little to old.

I saw that you had something I grabbed from fairytales in your video, something I put in my campaigns... cloud castles and cities. Some cloud and storm giants live in them, appearing to be clouds to those below or beside them. Did Netheril have them? One of my cloud cities had a secret pact with technomancers to recruit some for maintenance as they long lost how to maintain it properly. Oh, technomancers were a type of wizard in Loom. Nowadays they would be considered "steampunk fantasy."

There is a reason I don't like the idea of a Mageocracy. It's like the Wizards are Supreme rulers, and the next person in line for power is likely the Archmage's apprentice, or simply the best (or most backstabbing/ruthless) student who climbs there way to the top of the local Wizard School.
