Yeah critics say that the album is bad because they don't like the sound or they think that AJR is just trying to look quirky but that's just how they are, the happy, excited style of music is just their personality and I'm happy to finally see a good review of this album

I feel like I can relate to Neotheater a lot. Just the whole idea child hood and nostalgia. Honest to god on of my biggest fears is loss, whether it’s family or mentality or something physical even. It’s impossible for me to let things go. Along with moving on, and growing up especially. Idk i just really relate to it no matter how cliche that sounds.
@anitaundergound

It's not cliche, a lot of us have that fear. Even though I said the click was better in the video, as time goes on I come back to neotheater a lot more often. I think it's helpful to have genuine art out there about the transition from childhood to adulthood and the pressures and fears that come with it.

Fun fact: the old-timey choirs in the bookending songs were actual choirs. In order to capture the feel, they actually reached out to a third party and got them to record the choir singing on older equipment to give it the old 1940s/1950s kinda sound to it. They had a hell of a lot more production value for this album than they had for all of their previous albums combined. ...Which I realize isn’t saying a lot, because I think I remember an offhand comment in an interview I’ve only watched once where Ryan mentioned that the entirety of the Living Room album was produced in their Living Room.

In this album btw, while there's no overture, every song in the album is like a "mini-overture", because every song has a part of another one as form of easter eggs, like for example, in Birthday Party, the "And everything's going great!" line can also be heard in Break my face 👆

@@thatonekid3097 I think that don’t throw out my legos talked about childhood. Like in the beginning they talked about leaving the nest or home to grow up to a new house with an new address. They made that first verse sound like they were just old enough to leave the security of their parents ending their childhood, And then proceeding to say, “don’t throw out my legos,” makes me think that he refers these legos as his childhood. I interpret Wow, I'm not Crazy as a sort of "My mental illness made me feel crazy, you taught me I wasn't crazy, thank you for that." It could very easily be a love song, it could just as easily be a song for a friend or friend group, a sibling, a parent, maybe even a therapist. Basically, it's for anyone who cares about you and helps you see that you're not broken.

Obviously I’m very late to the comment party but Neotheater was meant to be an album for you to relate to your own childhood and use your imagination to relive your childhood through the songs. The only thing that threw me off (and don’t get me wrong I still adore the song) is that Dear Winter and Turning out P2 was written by Ryan, and he sings turning out P2 but Jack sings Dear Winter. The only reason for this is Ryan wrote the song and showed it to Jack. Jack actually broke down crying and they decided since Jack showed much more emotion, he should sing for the album. And if you listen closely during the song, you can hear him crying because it’s such an emotional song. Even though it was written by his brother. Ryan is the one who wants to name his kid (boy or girl) Winter

Well, that failed. Until he sings about homelessness, rape of children by adults, playing in the dirt because you had no real toys and being forced to hustle stuff to get your lunch money, they are not talking about any childhood that looks familiar to me and millions of others. These 'culturally Jewish' boys are a living cliche of spoiled white kids in nice neighborhoods of NYC. How did we know they played Washington Park early on? Everything about them is cliche. Having heard most of the music, I now have a question; "Can we skip to the good part?!"

@@kevinadams9468 their songs cannot relate to everyone. That is impossible, and its not what they are trying to do. I just realized how well this album works with it not having an overture. The overture helps you realize what to expect going in by giving short segments from each of the songs. One of the lines in next up forever is "'cause I don't know what's coming next". It works amazing.

5:20 Actually, AJR makes all of their music from their living room :) I love their music, and you should check out how they made most of their songs, it’s really interesting and different from many other bands. Thanks for writing a good review, i feel like there’s too few people out there that truly appreciate their nostalgic songs that just relate with you on so many levels. Btw, i suggest Way Less Sad and 3 o’ Clock Things from their latest album

I LOVE your reaction! It's similar to mine. You just came up in my recommendation today, and being a big AJR fan, ofc I clicked on it. P.s: try to find the easter eggs if you haven't tried to yet. One song has a little part of another song 😉 Edit: i love your editing and how you got all emotional on Turning Out Part II. Subscribed!

Okay so AJR are 3 brothers Adam, Jack, and Ryan from New York who produce all their own music in their living room. Their bomb asf. They recently released a song called Bang and in the song there’s a guy in the background who’s talking he said “here we go” and “metronome” who’s actually the man who is the voice of the New York City Subways Systems.

Random fun fact: Turning Out is actually sung by a different brother than Turning Out Pt. ii. Turning Out is sung by Jack (who sings most of their songs) , while Turning Out Pt. ii is sung by Ryan.

100 bad days is my favorite of theirs for a particular reason. 3 1/2 months ago I fell ill to pneumocystis pneumonia and was on ecmo and a ventilator for about 60-70 days. While on life support i died three times. I woke up in the PICU around day 73, and immediately wanted to listen to ajr, as they were my favorite band before i got sick, and played 100 bad days. Well here i am at day 94 and i get out of the hospital at day 104!

Coming from the ok orchestra video, this video made me realise how amazing neotheater actually was. I haven't listened to it for so long, hearing it again reminds me of the time it came out for the first time. I was on vacation then, the evening walks over the camping to the music of the Finale... I miss that time.
