I love the double idea that the line "we will get out of this" or "the truth is we are screwed" isn't actually talking about/ to the girl he is dating who he lied to, but instead to himself, just to keep himself hopefully, kinda the same vein: 'no matter what happens there is always tomorrow' But then in the bridge it switches to the girl he love who he is talking too

I love the subtle symbols and meaning in this song. The more heavily edited Jack's voice is, the less honest the person in the song is. During the verses, when he's lying to people, his voice is incredibly heavily edited and doesn't even sound like him. In the chorus, he's being more honest, but he's saying "We'll get out of this" even though he knows that's not true and he's not going to be able to keep getting out of these lies. Then finally, when he says "cause I love you, I do. We'll get out of this, cause I love you it's true." It's all just his voice complete unedited, because that's the first time he's being completely honest, but by that point it's too late. This song has such subtle beauty but some people are just like "voice annoying, trick bad." It's really unfortunate.

All my friends still believe these lies I told all the way back from middle school. Now I'm turning 20 next month. I have a girlfriend. And she has never met my parents, cuz well. My dad doesn't lie. This song hits so close to home man. I listened to the album with her last night. And broke down to this song. It finally gave me the courage to tell her about all the things I lied to her about. That I'm a compulsive liar. I'm not proud of this, and in not proud of the truth. I hate myself, I don't understand how anyone could love the real me. But. I told her. And she says she doesn't hate me for it. She is probably still processing though. I hope she doesn't doubt this. I want to get out of this. We'll get out of this. I'm screwed man.

God the amount of times I have lied to my parents, the look of utter disappointment in my mom's face when she finds out the truth and she asks me why I turned out the way I did. Its burned itself in my heart and mind. I know despite it all she still loves me and puts so much weight on herself for it to the point of breaking down...I hate myself for it. Im doing my best to make up for it, to simmer. I found myself a group of friends who I feel closer to more than my family, I would never lie to them, without them I dont think Id still be here... By far my favorite song on the album! I only wish that it was longer. It is amazing how they are able to be so authentic as they are writing and performing a song about not living an authentic life. This song is a throwback anthem for me and likely for many who feel like we haven't been able to live as our authentic selves, whether that is because we are LGBTQ, have been abused, have known terrible loss, or wear masks for any other reason . The trick is really a defense mechanism, a life of lies, of living away from the truth, because we are not proud of our authentic truth. To become proud we have to learn to get through it and no longer use the trick, perhaps we have to learn to take a few falls learn to say "Screw it, I'ma smile right through it" "And I'll scream when no one's around".

This song is so odd when it comes to being serious, and so friggin symbolic with such little. And i love that. Ive never heard a song about compulsive lying -if this is what its about- and so this is already unique in itself. But then you have the added symbolism with the voice. Which for me puts the cherry on top of this. Instead of the Liar voice its Adams actual voice and thats so frigging cool because not everything that liars say are lies, and i love how they portrayed that.

Some sort of vibrato, and I imagine it's sped up? Kinda like the chipmunks.

They said it was a different person's voice. Could of been sped up or pitched high. We still need an answer from them lol.

I've grown to liking this song. I avoided this song for sometime because other people said that it's bad. Jeez, I let other's opinion not make me hear this great song sooner.

It's been crazy man. I've moved across the country, broke up with my boyfriend, started a new school, but ajr has been there through it all. This song has become my favorite on oko. Life sucks but I'm alive ya know. According to ajr themselves "Well, I'm not dead yet so I guess I'll be alright."

I think I found a word to describe AJR's Genre. Versatile. It means, able to be changed, or inconsistent. I mean this in the best way possible, I love this band. That word fits perfectly. Versatile is their genre of music.
