Actually on them being rich, I think they’ve only recently started making money. On an interview they said that because they love the art side of performing they’ve been operating basically at a loss just to tour and have incredible visuals etc, they’ve pretty much lost money or broken even just because they love touring and putting on bombastic performances so much.

the interludes at the end somewhat represent their older albums main sound the trumpet being from OK ORCHESTRA, the modern piano being from The Click, and the violin and sampling from Neotheater

I’d like to say that AJR is three brothers. Adam, Jack, and Ryan. Jack is the main singer. Adam is mainly the base. Ryan is the backup singer, guitar. He is also the beat makerish. I heavily recommend listening to the rest of the album

AJR is one of THE most underrated artists out there today. I’ve seen them three times live and they put on one hell of a show!! Ryan has synesthesia and is an absolute genius. There is genuinely so much talent in this family. ❤❤

I’d like to mention, these brothers aren’t that rich. They just recently moved out of their NYC apartment into a small townhouse, and they still don’t have a studio, they use their living room (aka their 2015 album title).

honestly too many people fail to give this album a chance because of AJR's earlier work being more immature-feeling, but this album is a damn good example of the maturation of AJR's style over time, starting from a childish sense of arrested development all the way to starkly grappling with responsibility and identity

I'm not a devoted follower of AJR, but every time I come across their music, I've been impressed. Each song of theirs I heard has been about the difficulty of being a human being. And who can't relate to that?

Loved this reaction!! I've been a huge fan of AJR for a long time, and something cool about this song is that it is actually an overture to the remaining songs on the album it belongs to! Each 'concept' pertains to one song😄

This song is actually so cool cuz it’s all about wanting to be different stuff and exploring who you are, and it serves as an introduction to and table of contents for the album that it’s a part of. That’s why it’s all over the place, and why it ends so differently than it begins. The ending that makes more sense is at the end of the last song, 2085. Fun fact, the album is called The Maybe Man, and this song Maybe Man is the first. The last song, 2085, which ends the first song and the album, when you break it apart to be 20, 8, and 5, spells “the.” This puts the beginning of the album at the end and the end at the beginning, showing how confusing and exploratory this album is

Great analyses. I really enjoyed your reaction. Some recommendations, this song has a companion song in "2085". They bookend the album. Also, they have a song that's directly about that external/ internal validation point you made, called "hole in the bottom of my brain" that I think you'd enjoy. Finally, "inertia" is a very musically interesting song from this album. Also my personal favorite.

This song is just.... it feels like a broadway song to me. It feels like it takes this orchestral approach and mixes it with some of the modern stuff learned through the thousands of years of music making. This whole album and so much of there music feels very unique to me. I love music and while I'm not professional in it.... God its so cool to see people talk about it from a different point of view. Being able to try and pick up what other professionals see and hear is just so fun and ajr's music is such an example of that as they hind so many little things that even (in my eyes) professionals wouldn't see. Amazing reaction and analysis gonna need to watch other of your videos cause god its cool to see everything I mentioned. One last thing is that this song and a lot of there music are very philosophical and from a psychology perspective and philosophy perspective it's just so fun to dig into. (to me at least)

They do breakdowns of the musical production behind their songs and how they came up with the unique sounds they use, and it's really cool to watch! I'm finally back (guess who's here ;) you have two likes from me as a bonus). I still have to go back to videos I missed. As an animator I thought about animation of this MV... Firstly it reminded me of AI generated MVs of Beth Roars (I recommend checking them out, especially "Anxiety Society"), but this one is different after all. I specialize in traditional frame by frame animation so it's still quite outside of my expertise, but it looks for me like a mix of few techniques. There are some flat digitally painted background parts, but most are obviously 3D. And of course the main character is 3D too, with an animated paint texture placed on it, but not as a standard 3D texture, it's somehow placed as a kind of additional layer (but it's just my guess). Hard to say how much of it was done manually and how much automatized (it's amazing what AI can do these days). Still I agree it's a very interesting and creative animation.
