@@skilled-person Hey, hahaha! Good point, BUT the glass material is maybe throwing people, it's a simple everyday comparison to showcase some key UX thinking. The Glass ones are actually very well insulated / designed, and you don't feel the heat at all through it. Unlike the traditional porcelain ones.

@@AJSmart hmm, good point, see like i said before: Good UX always strong with you have marketing mindset, in this example if you emphasis the double sided glass feature and how it protect my hand from the heat, this could be value proposition for this item, i consider buying the glass one after knowing this, [Request] how about making a video about UX Strategy: Content Strategy, because most people focus only on Design part but we both know "Content is King" :) thanks for the replay

Great video, always nice to watch the stuff you guys are doing! From my POV I think you are missing a quite important point about UX: expectations of users, so everything BEFORE actual usage. Most of what Dee talks about is actually UI Design, not so much UX. Of course UI is a vital part of UX, with usability and aesthetics again being a vital part of the UI. But knowing and meeting the expectations of the user is what makes a good experience. Using the coffee cup example: if the primary need is „having a well decorated and perfectly looking breakfast table“ than the white cup might eventually result in a better UX than the glass one...

The most important point is double glass the first layer won’t get hot and you have full hand to handle it. The design is unique and different. Was a clever safe useful design. The white mug is traditional because human brain work everyday in circles we get used to do the same everyday that why you feel safe about the white mug but don’t worry the glass mug will give you the same work as the white one. It’s about opening the clients Appetit to try the new product.

@@lillykeule5416 I just like the handle, it feels cozy. With the clear one, it doesn’t feel nostalgic, it feels like a glass of water. I get where you are coming from, thats why i think design needs to evolve slower. Slowly transition into new ideas without making the user think they are radical.

This was the last piece of the cake. Thank you!!!!!! Thank you!! So well explained. Without the ya da ya da design talk language that most designers speak. LOVE this! Thanks a bunch.

One thing I find interesting is the 'desirability' aspect and how that will change from person to person. Some will desire the glass coffee cup because its functional and 'sexy' in a modern way, but some people will find the white mug more desirable, even though it's less 'usable,' because it's a classic design - it makes people feel a certain way. So yes, the glass cup is a better user experience, because it covers all three areas, but no matter how good the user experience is, human behavior will ultimately determine which experience they choose. Sometimes one of those 3 areas will trump the other 2 for a person. I don't know what my point is here, but it was an interesting thought :P

@pablomunoz5858
@pablomunoz5858 4 жыл бұрын
Agree. But adding something else to your comment, I even find those 3 areas subjective as well. What other person said in the comments, you cannot feel how hot is the coffee in that glass, you may burn yourself. I don't even like coffee in glass, for me it goes right away to mugs. So, in my case, that glass it only covers usability. But I guess UX design is about the majority of people
@NateBazooka
@NateBazooka 4 жыл бұрын
Agree, although even the usability is arguable I don't like that particular mug, but a) drinking coffee is a ritual, it is done from a mug. that is part of the ritual. b) the warmth of the mug in your hands is part of it, and part of waking up c) they're both too damn small However, people are different and have different emotions tied into different processes.
@suzycue303

Yes I agree- some people may just be used to having a cup with a handle. It may be what they grew up with. Another point I’d want to bring up is that a lot of people like mugs for the design that’s on the cup. Like when you go on vacation, and bring back a coffee mug with the locations name on it.
@robson2939

Exactly, I thought the white cup is better because it has the handle. I don't like to drink coffee from a glass for example. It is conflicting with traditional experience which is a coffee mug.

Ceramics are a natural insulator and they will never get that hot to burn the user. The glass cup w/o the handle is a nightmare if it is slippery. You will end up wearing that hot coffee or the cup will fall and break. Id buy the ceramic cup with the handle because it might not be as cute but it is much more usable. I have a coffee press that is the insulated and and the seal only lasts for about a year before it break and the water gets between the glass walls. I was hoping that UX was more like ergonomics/human factors engineering.

I think if the glass cup had a handle, I’d go for it. But if I walk into my friends house, have a sudden want for coffee, and see these cups side by side, I’d go for the mug. A good point to bring up while analyzing a product is accessibility. If we start to bring concepts from universal design we will realizing that a cup with a handle is more safe for people with arthritis for example. It's good and important to talk about the beauty or desirability of the products, but we shouldn't forget about accessibility.

Great definition for UX design! I also have 10+ experience and always face with a standard scheme in vacancies which is not practical in reality. Regarding the presentation, for me best UX design works without any explanation. That's why I only create clickable, tappable prototype and give to my colleagues, developers, managers, etc. without explanation or user flow schemes. If anyone asks a question, I go through that part again refining, simplifying it, till there is no question from anyone. At the end the design looks very simple and clear to understand and mainly it does not make users think.

Many people have told me to get into UX design. However, I have some reservations that lead me to ask a few questions: 1.) Is this often a remote position? I live away from almost any tech company and don't really want to move due to family, friends, etc. 2.) Is this a people intensive job? Will I be around a lot of people, talking to them, engaging them, etc or can the job be done relatively remotely? Generally speaking, would it be groups of 20 or more I would be around? 3.) How is work often doled out? Do I have a week's worth of work and need to get it done in a week? Basically, do I need to work 9 to 5 Monday through Friday, or can I work on things anytime I want as long as I get it done? Thank you for your time in trying to answer these questions.

I’m 17 years old and starting to explore more into UX design, I’ve been rapidly exploring a career path in Automotive design but I’m considering UX within transportation as another option. The car design field is becoming highly competitive and I’m afraid that there aren’t enough jobs to go around. Schooling for transportation design is also very expensive. I’m extremely passionate in this area but wondering if UX is something I would enjoy. First off could you tell me what schools offer some of the best programs in UX design? Also, will the field be consistently growing? Are there a good amounting jobs to go around? What do salaries look like? Is there much coding involved because I have more skill and interest in industrial/product design? Where are some places you could be working at in UX and what kinds of people do you work with? Thanks.

Great content Lady👏 Can you please create more content based on what it takes to build and grow your own UX Design Agency and what it takes to get one started.Also emphasize on how pricing for service delivery is structured,what determines pricing of a product and how remuneration is arranged for your employees. Reason why I ask this I because some or most of your viewers are not necessarily from Europe or the USA.Some are actually from Africa,believe it or not digital transformation in Africa is set to double a couple of years from now.And UX is relatively still a very new topic in Africa and it's set to grow as years go by.Do you get the point I'm trying to get across? Thanks💯

If I choose to be a freelancer, what would that role look like? Tbh, UX doesn't seem that alien. What would the process of visual design look like when I'm a solo freelancer. Do I need to know everything? (Lettering, photography, imagery, illustrations, etc) What does the art direction in that case look like? Thank you ! :*

Hey the things you list here would probably resemble more traditional graphic design / visual design yes. UX is focussed principally on the User needs for products or services. Are you looking to become a freelance UX designer? Or Freelance Visual Designer? Both these fields would have very different learning curves.

@@AJSmart I wish to be a freelancer. I thought UI/UX is the ideal fit for me. Ran Segall from the channel Flux talks about his full stack design skills. So I've always been wondering how can a solo person do ALL of it. Or do I need to hire graphic designers EVERY time to make the websites look more beautiful or artistic. Or maybe freelancing isn't the ideal thing for a UXer? Is it? Would love if it falls in your interest to cover these points. :)

Not sure about the glass is good for coffee xD everytime that in Latin America and Spain someone dares to put the coffee on those my hands are always burned, they are horrible to use. Some mugs are alright, with plenty of space to grab and they isolate enough ...totally know I am missing the point here but grab a glass for coffee it is a horrible experience xD

Hi, thanks for the video, the ideas were well communicated. I am currently studying on an art & design foundation diploma in Dublin and have realised that I'd like to go into UX, UI design. There are specific UX/UI courses that I've been contemplating applying for, but I would love to know from people in the industry if it would be wiser to study something broader/something else in design and get into UX through internships or work experience. Thanks

This video was very informative! I'm considering a UX "bootcamp" or 3-6 month immersive certification course with the goal to transition out of the food service industry and into a formal creative agency. Would you say that finding employment as a UX designer is more so base on one's qualifications on paper or experience/technical ability? Also would I need to have any other certified skillsets to position myself as a viable candidate for hire? I do not have a bachelors degree.

I would pick the white cup.... Great video, the guy behind made my day! Though there are multiple questionable points here, including "we are not creating user experience, it's already there", which could mean you are missing the features, users did not know they need in the first place. Like mobile phones, nobody imagined to not being able to live without in 1980th. But as i've said, i"m here for the whiite cup. I can't agree wiith your take on User Experience with this example, as it shows how our assumptions are on many occasioins far from the user observations. I'm happy to see people here have also noticed it. 1. During cold seasons people are warming their hands using the cup of warm tee or cofee. White cup does it, Thermo - doesn't. 2. By simply touching the cup you can understand the temperature of the liquid inside and users of the thermo-cups including myself are often experiencing burning their lips and tongue with coffee or tee too hot before avoiding thermo cups all together. 3. The white cup is less slippery because of the handle. 4. Some people are tending to turn the cup to one side using the handle (right handed to the right) to touch it with lips on the same spot they took the firs sip. (it's a mystery why though) 5. Ladies who use lipstick prefer the untransparent cups exactly while some evon highes quality lipstick tends to leaves marks. 6. The handle allows to hold the hot cup and bring it to the table, or to drink it, even if it's too hot for the fingers. 7. Such white cup is common design, people of conservative mindset are buying them just because of the classical look/feel. 8. The user who have ever warmed their hands the white cup during chilly winter days may use such cups to feel warm sensation and spiritual comfort at all times, which is mental reflection of the comfort in the past.Classical simple retro things are reminding of the childhood/comfort, you can't underestimate that.

Honestly, UX design as a field is completely unnecessary and useless. They dont really "create" or "design" anything. A good designer is able to determine if something is useful, accessible, etc. Yes some ux people make wireframes, but if you ever look at them, you might as well just hand over a list of things that need to be designed. Typically UX people are wanna be designers but just arent that good at design, so they created this new field to feel like they matter.

as i do agree with most of what's been mentioned, an important factor that goes into play is what does a user think before they analyze a product, and this can go both ways, but if a user wants to get coffee, one thought would be, familiarity, and having something like the white cup draws the attention, clear glass is more commonly used for colder products such as juices, so users might not even notice the insulation. another thing is habituation, no matter how terrible the handles is, the first thing that comes ti mind is, a cup without a handle is gonna be hot, so for me the white cup is surely a winner, third point would be durability and life, clear mans fragile, solid means, well solid. yet again i could be absolutely wrong but it's a point of view

I would think that desirability can varies as we need to consider the ambience (where the cup is used) as well. The glass cup's desirability may be further amplified when used in a cosy, chillax bistro, while the ceramic cup may not even with better functional designs.
