The AK 103 is the last full length 7.62x39 AK 100 series rifle designed by General Kalashnikov himself. While many may contend that the AK103 is just another modernized AKM... that could not be further from the truth.
We delve into why the AK 100 series was a significant step forward for Izhmash (formerly Izhevsk Arsenal) to take, why it has been such a commercial success, and how it further's the Kalashnikov's reputation of a legendary durability with prominent Russian small arms expert, Vladimir Onokoy ( / machaksilver .

The civilian version of the AK 103 is very popular with the French maritime escort teams aboard merchant boats where piracy is a real threat. They have to carry non-military firearms, so the Saiga is their choice by default as the closest rifle to an AK 103, usually mounted with an optic from Belarus or Russia.

Ак - 103 хороший и надёжный карабин, но по мне для самообороны брать ак - 74 в калибре 5,45. У нас в России военные и полицейские используют в основном именно калибр 5,45.

I think many viewers will question the opinion I expressed in the video about the reliability of the AK103. I understand why, but I am just talking about my own experiences. I watched InRange mud test video and I think every AK owner is obligated to do some form of reliability testing on his gun, that is part of the fun when you own an AK. But there is a reason the term "NATO mud" exists in a professional community, there are many variations of this test, and in my personal experience, AK haven't failed reliability tests when everyone involved was following the procedures. Nevertheless, I think InRange mud test is an interesting idea , and without any doubt, Ian and Karl are doing great work.

In Europe you can get Russian AKs, they are so fucking good it destroys competition. There are many subtle changes to various parts even those functional, materials too. You can feel difference between old standard AKM and something like Russian SAIGA 5.56 from like 2018 production lane. My Saiga feels more like AR15 than AKM in shooting, smooth as fuck.

@@toothlesstherussain Yeah 1812 tried to take back a country that threw the British out of. Look no other country yet can even fight 2 wars at the same time. By the way have you every taken a brief look at our military? Perhaps how many aircraft carriers we have. Who bought the F-35? And who could barely take the Falklands back? Look I’m not trying to start a new fight, just finish the one you began. Did I mention how the British did in their early expedition in to Afghanistan? Now I will leave it at this. I love the British. Fought side by side with them. They can really bring hell with them. You ever fight by an American? Because we are tough as nails too. Actually did you even serve at all? I personally own a KUSA KR-103 that I’ve shot a number of times, and I have to give it to Izhmash and M. Kalashnikov on this one (and to KUSA for making a very close clone of the milspec rifle, sans folding stock trunnion etc). Before I had bought it, I’d tried AKMs and an AKS-74U before, and the discomfort from shooting them made me hesitant to buy an AK platform gun. I mostly shoot big bore milsurp bolt action rifles (.30-06 and 8mm) for fun, so I’m used to getting kicked like a mule, but I anticipated the 103 copy to be very uncomfortable after prolonged shooting. I couldn’t have been more wrong if I had tried. The action is as smooth as butter, the furniture is comfortable to use (though I caught the Zenitco bug and ended up replacing the factory furniture on mine), and the recoil is incredibly mild for its calibre, such that I couldn’t believe it was chambered in 7.62x39. Slapping on a smaller tube type red dot (I use an NPZ ПКУ-2) with a side mount adapter or a TWS Dogleg rail cover makes instinctive shooting very comfortable. Definitely would have to recommend it.

A very enlightening and interesting video. Thank you to Vladimir Onokoy for taking the time and explaining the rifle so nicely. Heh, though I would like to see an AK-103 rifle try and take on the dreaded InRangeTV mud test. I still think it would not live through it.

Psa Ak-103 “klone” is basically their ake rifle with forged internals upgraded with a fn cold hammer forged barrel and some extras such as the folding stock, different front sight block, a cleaning rod (they weren’t putting them on it before), and the muzzle brake. It is not a true 103 internally but it scratches the itch deep enough that I’m sure it will sell quite well.

16:05 that is a pretty good video. It is called "GunBusters: AK-103". The shooter ended up having to hit the gun against a table when he loaded a new magazine because the ammo they used had some sort of primer sealant that made the bolt "sticky" after a few hundred rounds.
@Max_Da_G
@Max_Da_G 3 жыл бұрын
Laquered steel casing and laquer seal on the primer and bullet/case join. This is to prevent moisture ingress and corrosion of the case. 1000-round cases of Russian military surplus 7N6 5.45 are still sold in USA in different places, and that round is from 1970s. Some cans ARE that old and still noone has problems with those, apart from corrosiveness, but that isn't a problem if one simply does due dilligence by cleaning the rifle after use. As even soldier in military does.

Henry, what are your thoughts about the Indian Army's decision to select the AK-203 as their main service weapon? Is the 7.62x39 still a dependable round in near-peer conflicts? Or should they have gone for a full 5.56 setup? This is my first comment on your channel, and I've absolutely loved your reviews. Any response would be appreciated.
@Predalien195

Thought they were going with the SIG716 in 7.62x51 instead? I mean they've been talking about this forever and testing things for quite some time but that was the last official news I saw.
@bitopandas4172
@bitopandas4172 4 жыл бұрын
@@Predalien195 The SIG 716 is for frontline infantry and for troops engaged in COIN operations. The rest of the army gets AK-203s. It's possible that once we get domestic production of AK-203 up and running, the bulk of the army will be equipped by those rifles while the 716s would be sidelined into a DMR role. But of course, that's just a speculation.
@Max_Da_G
@Max_Da_G 4 жыл бұрын
AK-203 is accurate enough for most uses by modern infantryman. It can mount any and all accessories available. 7.62x39 is a good round for within 300 meters where vast majority of the infantry engagements take place. In fact the winner of the engagement is decided more by the terrain and tactics than by firearms themselves.

Just picked up one of the first released PSA 103’s. Only have 100 rounds through it so far. I never realized that the 103 came about as a simplified manufacturing method that shares more common parts with other cartridges. With that being said, the PSA 103 does use a standard 7.62x39 bolt with the thicker stem and AKM extractor. More testing needs to be done with mine. After zeroing, I was getting 100 yard groups like Henry’s. My rifle did have some FTF and that’s why I stopped after only 100 rds. I Removed the firing pin from the bolt and a little piece of steel slag fell out that I’m guessing was left from when the hole was drilled. I’m sure this will fix the FTF problem as the rest is in spec. Disregarding the FTF and taking that out of the equation, this rifle is an awesome alternative then “converting” something. The FN chrome lined CHF barrel, forged trunion, bolt and BC is the heart of the system and should easily last 2 or 3 lifetimes. The folding stock on mine is very tight when locked open or folded. Definitely shoots flatter then my other AKM variants with the 74 style brake attached. Very pleased with what PSA has been doing and I can’t wait to try out one of their 74 models. Finally, a 100% American made AK that works!

When Henry made the comment about the WASR's gritty action, took me back a few years to my very first AK. A WASR 10-63 , if you pulled the bolt carrier all the way back and very slowly eased it forward, the BCG would hang there on the hammer. Give her a slight tap on the charging handle and it would go into battery. Ah, the good 'ol days of 300 AK's. 🤣
