Not surprised the gun jams often - the Japanese had similar problems converting the M1 to their own 7.7mm cartridge in WW2. The whole feed cycle of the M1 seems unforgiving of attempts to change calibers without serious redesign (guess .308 lucked out being so similar to .30-06)

Belted magnums, go figure. It's just another kind of rimlock.
@alflyover4413Ай бұрын
@@vicroc4 It's a matter of slow-burning powders still having high pressure at the gas port when the base of the bullet passes it. 4895, 4064, Varget, and a few other powders are in that sweet spot for combustion speed that will get optimum velocity out of the M1 while keeping port pressure within the design constraints. You're right, though; high gas port pressure does bend op rods. I was wondering about the Underwood ammo Scott was using. Come to find out Underwood does offer a Garand load, a 168-grain bullet at 2700 FPS. That's what Scott said he was using. 2700 is about 200 FPS slower than slow burning powders can push a 168 (or 165) grain bullet to.

@@alflyover4413 Yeah, the powders recommended for Garand loads are usually faster burning than modern load data for .30-06 recommends. In fact, a lot of the powders recommended for the Garand are the same ones you'd use for .223 Remington. Burns up more quickly and the pressure drops off before the gas port, I guess. I had no idea that Underwood offered a Garand load. 168 grains doing 2700 fps is a real thumper for a M1 - my loads are down in the 2400 range for a 168. Underwood lives up to its reputation. XD

My thought was if the magazine well where the clip sits was widened, the wider clips would let the rounds sit snugly against each other so they weren’t missing the feed ramp. Not a gunsmith it just seemed like Kentucky had to guide the rounds into the chamber every time it jammed
@TheDespairbearАй бұрын
@@kylewright7596 I have to wonder if they were using the original 30-06 clips, thus the misalignment when a wider cartridge is being used. Probably also needs a new tuned gas system and a beefed up ejector as well. Would be interesting to see where the tip of the 458 meets the feed ramp, seems like one "side" of the clip was feeding better than the other. It probably goes without saying that a retrofit on an M1 is going to be chasing all the specs that are designed for the 30-06, an entire re-design from the ground up for a M1 action built to the 458 would work wwwaaayyy better.

I did some trading at a gun show several years ago and I ended up with a 458 win mag. It came with the original box of 20 shells bought with the rifle minus 2. I held on to it for close to 5 years and when I got rid of it that same box of shells went with it again minus 3. 😂😂

To facilitate the break in of your rifle after you load the clip spray it down with some WD 40. Then load it into the gun you'll find out that it improves you're results. I bought and Arsenal refurbished M1 carbine and I had to spray the rounds down with WD40 and then put them in the mag and after about a 100 rounds everything was broken in and working perfectly.

I swear you guys are grabbing up all of my high school dream guns, lol. Between this, the .950 and Brandon's M82A2, theres only one gun that I don't think you guys have yet that I loved years ago. The .600 Nitro revolver, I think it was Pfeifer Zeliska. Sucker was huge, and you only saw a few pictures of it online

I just read about that Revolver before the video came out. 😂 So, Scott ,bring it on. We want the Pfeifer Zeliska .600 Nitro Express Revolver

*🇰🇷South Korean soldiers who used the M1 Garand Rifles during the Korean War reportedly did not prefer the rifle, which was designed to fit Westerners, because it was too big and heavy. However, it was also a rifle that could not be easily thrown away in terms of its formidable destructive power and semi-automatic rifle advantage over the Mosin-Nagant rifle used by the North Korean military at the time. According to testimony from veterans at the time, the head, arms, and legs of the enemy forces that were hit by the M1 Garand Rifles were necessarily cut off.*

8:00 From what I found, Flush Toilets (like the one Scott has) have been around since ~1880 C.E. However, flushing toilets didn't become common everywhere until the 1930's with electricity. It looks like people got to work installing electricity and plumbing once they got home after WWI.
