It was a good thing the original buttstock was plastic. When u install the wood, if it's too tight to go into the metal receiver, then i suggest u to file off the mating wood perimeter. Thus, no hurting/cracking the wood. Actually, if u put dye around that narrow area, u can c where the wood is tight so just sand it there. N, if u also bevel the sheet rcvr metal's inside edge, it'll b much EZr the nxt time u need/want to remove n install. I've seen two utubers w gashed finger tip bc. of the hard to pivot Gas Tube Lock Lever. Just use a pair of long nose plyers. If ur worried bout scratching the lever, just wrap masking tape on ea. jaw tip. No finger cutting. After releasing that lever, i've found that the lever pointing was not perpendicular to the bbl axis but just at a shallower angle. Wiggling the lever while trying to free the top guard up at the back end helped. To take out that top hand guard, i wrapped a dense cotton pillow type cloth, several times around the cylinder tube. Then, w a long handled spanner wrench, i twisted the tube till what u've said, 180 deg i.e., the arch of the guard is now matching the horizontal tube's sheet metal at the back. Then, the wooden guard just lift up and off after some wiggling. No hurting hands/fingers. Buttstock Removal: o Don't use a flat screw drvr to remove that long bolt inside the stock. This bolt is screwed to a thick steel plate at the back of the sheet metal rcvr. This plate is riveted to the sheet so the rivets uC got nothing to do w holding the wooden stock. Use instead, a 13mm socket w a long (5 1/2") extension on a decently long handled ratchet wrench. This would give u more torque and won't strip the bolt head as the bolt head slot is too wide for ur flat scrw drvr. U may want to lay the gun flat on its side, set on it, then turn the ratchet. It'll help a bit if u spray WD-40 on that bolt end thread (M8 x 1mm thread?) at that thick plate sticking out. Make sure ur nut(not) tightening the bolt. Turn CCW!!! o Removing the bolt still won't let u pull out the wood. Like Mike, i did bang the wd's heel n toe but nut(not) on the floor. I wanted to put the buttplate back on B4 doing this but it won't protect the H & T bc. the wood there still sticks a bit further from the butt plate, exposed against this hammering. So, i wrapped a densely woven cotton (pillow case rag) around the wood butt end, n tapped it alternately w a mallet. Voila! o I'll use several coat of Walnut Danish Oil from Lowe's to darken and bring out the pale white n faddy grain of my Zastava M70 Maple. I need to test out how dark this Walnut color is on a piece of 2 x 4 pine (similar paleness) 1st. May need to stain it 1st? Hope these helped the viewers further as well as ur video for me to take the darn ding apart. N Thx for the video Mike and please give a little hug to ur cat (27:33) who has bn very patient n quiet at the background. Cute Kitty!

They make the bottom foregrip a bit large on purpose! It's because it needs to fit all AK's and not all AK's have the same measurements. SInce they have left the piece a bit large, you can file it to a perfect fit no matter your AK manufacturer. Your welcome...
@edwest7035
@edwest7035 Жыл бұрын
really hard to watch you struggle with those installs, to start with there is a slot on the side of the cleaning kit housing that fits the gas tube locking lever very well, also on the rear stock there is a hole in the top of the rear trunnion to stick a screwdriver in and pry off the stock so you dont have to beat it on the floor.also its much easier to gently clamp the gas tube in a vise to twist off the top wood , you will find it twists easily when clamped in a vise..theres plenty of utube vids on the ak to learn all the tricks..i recommend you watch them and educate yourself on your rifle..happy shooting..

@gussie88bunny
@gussie88bunny 2 жыл бұрын
Hey man, the bolt carrier has a groove on either side that interfaces with the receiver so it can slide back and forth in the gun when shooting. Use that groove. Hold the bolt carrier so it's rod is pointing upwards, and bring it oriented like that up to the lever. Make the tab on the lever go into the bolt carrier groove. Now rotate the bolt carrier in your hand so it turns to be parallel with the gun, the op rod turning to be pointing in the same direction as the barrel. As you do this, the lever will be forced to rotate and unlock. The bolt carrier gives you mechanical advantage and protects your hand. Once you try this, you'll understand and see that it works.

Why is the old gas block better than the v2 gas block?
@MikeWithTheGuns
@MikeWithTheGuns 2 жыл бұрын
I honestly don't know which is better. My preference for the old gas block is because any time you see an AK-47 in a movie, it always has the standard gas block. I think this other gas block was made to reduce possible over gassing on previous models, which I don't think anyone complained about anyway. To top it all off, they now came up with a batch of Century 1826-N everywhere, so I should have just waited for it.

Since I have been looking for one, I look at the photos on Gun Broker on a regular basis. Most sellers are showing only the stock photos, which can vary from what you actually get. When emailing most of these sellers, I am surprised to hear that they don't even keep the guns in stock, they are essentially drop shippers from the manufacturer. Anyway, I found one listing last week that had the actual photos of the current 1826-N, and the gas block looked very similar to the WASR V2. It's definitely different than what they show in the stock photos.
@gussie88bunny
@gussie88bunny 2 жыл бұрын
Apparently the new V2 gas block is from an East German mould. Why Romania is casting parts now using East German casting equipment is anyone's guess. Maybe Cugir's current moulds were worn out, the East German ones came up as surplus, so they bought them to replace the old one? Maybe?

Pro tip you can use the bolt carrier to turn that lever on the trunnion to get the gas tube off and go ahead and change out that pistol grip you can always wrap it in hockey or goon tape for texture and at least it will match the handguard and stock

I found a WASR 10/63 online for a great price but I'm thinking the lever on the gas block/trunnion to get the gas tube off/on may be broken or something wrong with it bc the lever is straight up and down, perpendicular and not at an angle like all the other AK's I've seen at least online or videos. Is it normal to be perpendicular? Thanks

I hope you didn’t push your stock flush with the receiver. The little 1mm gap between the stock and receiver is actually intentionally left that way to stop the receiver from cracking the stock when the receiver flexes while shooting.
@MikeWithTheGuns
@MikeWithTheGuns 2 жыл бұрын
I am glad that you mention this. I knew about the recommendation for a gap, as one of my AK's has the gap, and I discovered that it was supposed to be that way upon researching. This one came with the stock flush with the receiver, although it was a plastic stock. I just had to push the new one flush to see how it does. If it does crack, I see that Palmetto State Armory also sells just the stock if I need to. And then at that time, I will have my own personal experience haha.

@gussie88bunny
@gussie88bunny 2 жыл бұрын
Mike, if the wobble annoys you, tiny slivers of wood can be wedged in the handguard retainer, then you close the retainer on the handguard, using force like you initially did in your video. The wood sliver squishes everything together so there's no wobble. I saw a guy use copy paper folded to size and liberally coated in wood glue to achieve the same result.

I honestly still think this is the best option, to keep all parts in tact. The only other way I have seen is some guys put the gun in a vice, and then beat the stock off with a hammer until it budges. The removed stock is always destroyed after that, and it doesn't seem like it's much easier on the gun than what I did here. I would do it the same way again.
